The Chevrolet Tahoe has set a standard among family vehicles with its excellent powertrain capability, generous interior space, and reasonable off-road moves. Chevy redesigned the workhorse family hauler in 2021, and the vehicle enters 2022 with notable new technology and wider availability of its fantastic V8 engine option.
Chevy offers the 2022 Tahoe in several configurations, including LS, LT, RST, Premier, Z71, and High Country. A 5.3-liter V8 comes standard that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. An available 6.2-liter V8 makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and buyers can also choose a 3.0-liter turbodiesel that produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All engines come paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD).
Though it’s got truck roots, the Tahoe is quite luxurious, even in its most basic form. The LT model comes standard with power front seats, folding second-row seats, and generous interior storage. Cloth upholstery is standard, but higher trims add soft leather and upscale interior trim. Buyers can opt for a bench or for bucket seats in the second row.
Chevrolet is generous with tech in the Tahoe. The base LS gets an 8-inch touchscreen that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, and HD radio come standard. Despite being Chevy’s “entry level” model, the Tahoe also gets a six-speaker stereo and a 4.2-inch driver information screen. Other standard features include remote start, keyless open, cruise control, USB ports, and more.
The last Tahoe to receive crash test information was the 2020 model, but it missed out on top safety honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2022 model gets several standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, forward-collision alerts, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicators, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beam headlights. The Tahoe also gets front and rear parking sensors, OnStar, and GM’s Teen Driver Technology, which lets parents set top speeds, maximum radio volume, and other limitations for new drivers.
The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is on sale now. Pricing starts at $53,695, which includes a $1,795 destination charge. The LT starts at $59,295, the RST at $62,795, the Premier at $67,545, and the High Country at $74,395. The off-road-oriented Z71 model starts at $64,795 after destination.
Chevy offers several options packages and upgrades for the Tahoe that make it easy to push the price far beyond its starting point. The Z71 package starts at $5,485, Off-Road Capability package at $2,995, Off-Road Performance Package at $2,615, Luxury Package at $2,525, and Illumination Package at $1,095.
Depending on the trim level, buyers can add a Driver Alert Package that brings blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts for $495. Top trims get these features at no added cost.
