The Toyota Avalon Hybrid is the gas-electric variant of the brand’s spacious, comfortable, full-size sedan. It combines a hybrid drivetrain with an upscale cabin and a long list of standard features. In addition to its generous front-and-rear seating, the Avalon Hybrid provides 16.09 cubic feet of cargo space, which is good for a sedan.
The Avalon Hybrid comes standard with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not available on the 2020 Avalon Hybrid but will be standard equipment on the 2021 edition.
Trims for the Avalon Hybrid are XLE, XSE, and Limited. The XLE comes standard with dual-zone climate control, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, five USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Wireless device charging, a power moonroof, and a JBL premium stereo are all available on the XLE.
The XSE includes performance-inspired styling cues, as well as a combination of synthetic leather and suede upholstery. It also includes a power moonroof and wireless device charging.
The range-topping Limited has all the features found on the XLE and XSE and it adds genuine leather upholstery, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated front seats, and heated rear seats. The Limited also adds navigation to the touchscreen and adds a 14-speaker premium audio system.
The Toyota Avalon Hybrid combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a nickel-metal hydride battery and two electric motors. Total system output is rated at 215 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. According to EPA estimates, the 2020 Toyota Avalon Hybrid returns fuel economy of 43 mpg across the board—city, highway, and combined. The XLE, which has different wheel sizes, returns fuel economy of 43 city, 44 highway, 44 combined.
The Avalon Hybrid comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance features. This includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Optional safety features include a head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, front-and-rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic braking.
Base MSRP for the 2020 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is $37,000 for the XLE trim. The XSE trim starts at $39,500 and the Limited starts at $43,300.
The Avalon Hybrid is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The hybrid components are backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
