The third-generation Porsche Cayenne arrived in 2019, so only minor changes arrive for the 2020 model. Shoppers can now find Cayennes with wireless phone-charging capabilities, and the Sport Design package adds high-gloss black to the interior. Finally, the factory will also now paint the “Porsche” and model badge letters on your Porsche Cayenne, if that’s what you want.
As a two-row SUV, the Cayenne offers seating for up to five people. The vehicle boasts 8.2 inches of ground clearance, making it a true utility vehicle, and there are 26.3 cubic feet of cargo space available behind the rear seat.
The Cayenne is, above all, a performance SUV. It offers a range of powertrains across three trim levels, but all of them are capable of making hair stand on end. In the base trim, a turbocharged 3.0-liter, 335-horsepower V6 engine drives all four wheels. If that’s not enough, shoppers can upgrade to the S trim, which downsizes the engine to 2.9 liters but adds an extra turbo and bumps power output to 434 horses, still delivered to all-wheel drive. Finally, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo packs a twin-turbo V8 engine offering 541 horsepower (mercifully managed by all four wheels).
As one would expect, fuel economy is not great. The base model Cayenne delivers the best numbers, at 19 mpg city, 23 highway, and the Turbo delivers the worst: 15 mpg city, 19 highway.
The Cayenne is a Porsche. It’s expensive, but it looks and feels nice. A 12.3-inch touchscreen, 10-speaker audio system, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot all included as standard. You can add tens of thousands of dollars worth of options.
It ostensibly competes against cars like the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, but the Cayenne brings a level of performance that those vehicles can hardly match. If you’re looking for an SUV to complement your 911, the Cayenne is the obvious choice.

Love the car! Handles nicely. Wanted a smaller SUV from my Yukon, and I’m very happy with my purchase. Was a little confused when the screen turned red and couldn’t reset. But turned off car for a few minutes and when turning back on the screen went back to normal. Beautiful color, different and unique from the typical car colors. Great speed with the turbo engine.
