Introduced for 2007, the Audi Q7 made a fashionably late debut into the crossover segment that was already home to models like the BMW X5 and Lexus GX. Since then, competition has increased with all-new or extensively redesigned alternatives like the Acura MDX, Infiniti QX60, and Volvo XC90. For 2019, Audi has worked to keep the Q7 fresh by adding more standard features, broader access to advanced safety technologies, and new alloy wheel options.

Slotted in between the smaller Q5 and sportier Q8, the 2019 Audi Q7 delivers the athletic stance and aggressively sleek design that modern Audis are known for, highlighted by the expansive grille, flared rocker panels, and furrowed-brow headlights. The whole package rides on 18-, 19-, 20-, or new 21-inch multi-spoke wheels with available run-flat tires.

All 2019 Q7s are equipped with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and an 8-speed automatic transmission, though buyers do have their choice of two engines. Variants bearing a 2.0T badge draw motivation from a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while a 3.0T badge signifies the presence of a supercharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine boasting 329 hp and 325 lb-ft. of torque. Despite the significant difference in output, both engines have the same EPA fuel-efficiency estimates: 19 mpg city, 25 highway, and 21 combined.

Trims for the Q7 include Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. For the Premium trim, standard features include navigation, triple-zone automatic climate control, a hands-free power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, multiple memory functions, and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights. The Premium Plus trim gets a Bose surround-sound system, a wireless phone charger, and a 12.3-inch multi-function gauge display, which fans will know as the Audi virtual cockpit. A move to the top-of-the-line Prestige trim opens the door to heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display (HUD), and four individual climate control zones.

Returning for 2019 is Audi’s multimedia interface (MMI) system, which uses a console-mounted dial and touchpad to control everything from basic vehicle settings to the radio. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included with every Q7, but buyers will need to pay extra for options such as a rear-seat entertainment system or 1,920-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system.

On the safety front, the 2019 Q7 includes a host of related features including emergency braking, front-side and side-curtain airbags, front pre-collision warning, and front and rear parking sensors. A self-parking system is newly standard on the Prestige and optional on other trims.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested the 2019 model, awarding it top marks in eight of nine categories, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave Audi’s large crossover a 5-star rating.
