The CarGurus verdict
At a time when pickups are becoming almost as refined as modern automobiles, it is almost refreshing to drive something completely old-school like the Tacoma.
The 2013 Toyota Tacoma leads a shrinking midsize pickup class in terms of size and capability, but as the latest crop of full-size trucks becomes more fuel-efficient without any loss of hauling and towing ability, the real benefit of selecting a smaller model is a lower price tag. On this front, the Tacoma delivers, saving Toyota truck buyers thousands of dollars while returning better fuel economy compared to the bigger Tundra. However, unless Toyota invests in the 9-year-old Tacoma soon, especially with regard to improving gas mileage, new full-size models from competing companies are likely to further erode its appeal.

What owners say
"Owners of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma generally love its reliability, power, and comfortable ride. Many appreciate the truck's compact size, which makes it easier to maneuver, while still offering decent towing capabilities. However, some drivers noted that the back seat can be cramped and that they wished for additional features like a navigation system. Overall, it's seen as a solid choice for those looking for a dependable compact truck."
I love it and is very versatile and flexible. I love how it handles. Even with 180,000 miles it runs very smooth and is in excellent condition. It was a very great experience. I'm very happy with it.
May 24, 2025The truck is perfect. Small pick up trucks are the best for a utilitarian that needs it all. This truck rides great on the road and is excellent off road. The truck is unstoppable in the snow and the reliability is top notch. I get great gas mileage out of this truck, as long as I drive conservatively. Great power, the truck will tow 6500 lbs without the slightest issues. The build quality is what you expect out of a Toyota. I totally recommend this truck and will always be a Tacoma fan for life. Toyota makes the best vehicles and this truck is living proof.
December 18, 2013Great running vehicle, priced fair. Wish it came with a navigation system but I guess it wasnt an option in that model year

June 26, 2021I've had my Tacoma for a little over a year now and use it as my farm/work truck. It's been loaded down with lumbar, firewood, concrete, cinderblocks, you name it, I've used it to tow heavy trailers, I've had it in the mud, and I've had it on the highway. These are great all around trucks they are small enough to be easy to drive and park yet they are very robust in design. They are great off-road and have impressive towing capacity. The looks are sharp and there are tons of aftermarket parts if you want to customize them along with a very strong user community. They are extremely reliable and Toyota offer a 2 year maintenance program to cover all you basic maintenance. The four door has a spacious interior and the seats fold down for additional storage while not in use. They have plastic covers and an innovation storage compartment design behind the seat to add even more function. Needless to say I love this truck.
October 23, 2014It is a fantastic vehicle with updated safety and convenience features. Double cab gives my family plenty id space for passengers! 5ft bed is big enough for me to haul supplies for my business.
September 28, 2020The tacoma sr5 I have bought is all around great buy.strong v6..some may say its dated but if it aint broke dont fix it reliability is what I purchased .the looks are sharp and aftermarket parts are inexpensive to an average joe.
April 13, 2021It is smaller than my 1500 sierra I traded it for. But the mileage is better and its a comfortable ride, almost car like. The tacoma still has handling characteristics like a full size truck but not as bulky. I wouldnt recommend this size truck if you are carrying around a crew for a long distance on a regular basis. The back seat area doesnt leave much leg room. The power to weight ratio is noticeable when passing other cars on the highway. Itll really get up and move for a v6. I really like the power outlet in the truck bed and all the storage compartments under the rear seats and truck bed. All and all its a great truck and I would recommend it to anyone looking to down size from a bigger pickup.
October 18, 2020The Toyota Tacoma TRD has the power, beefed up brakes and shocks to tackle any rough terrain. On city roads, it drives and handles with aplomb. Long drives on freeways and country roads are surprisingly smooth and quiet for a truck. Gas mileage could be better but it is a V6. Splendid fit and finish and impressive looks. Tough to beat.
May 24, 2015I believe you cant go wrong when you pick a Toyota Tacoma. This truck no matter the year, holds its value and has to be the most dependable truck on the road.
December 22, 2023Very nice truck....only problem was a vibration from a stop to about 20-25mph....i understand this is a common problem with the 2013 models & others
