Although it's still literally under wraps, the 2009 Lexus RX 350 looks likely to gain a few inches in overall length, as well as an updated transmission, sleeker profile, and a few more standard features. The new version should have a longer nose and lower greenhouse, lending a sportier overall appearance to the crossover SUV. It will continue to be offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The low-emission engine achieves 270 hp and 251 ft-lbs of torque at 4,700 RPM and is paired with a 5-speed automatic. The powertrain features electronic throttle control that makes adjustments for traction and stability. A hybrid version is in the works for 2010.

Rumors of a three-row, seven-passenger model are apparently simply rumors. The 2009 RX 350 will seat five in two rows, with 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats and 42 inches of front and 36 inches of rear legroom. With the seats folded down, its 38-cubic-foot cargo space increases to 85 cubic feet, and it comes with a retractable cover and tie-downs. A roof rack is optional. Some nice power features include 10-way front seats, a power liftgate, and cruise control. A 6-CD player is MP3-compatible and can be supplemented with satellite radio. Option packages boost the luxury quotient by adding heated leather seats, a sunroof, a DVD player with wireless headphones, a voice-activated navigation system, memory settings, and an 11-speaker sound system.

Coming from Toyota, the RX 350 can claim a solid and secure build, with plenty of safety features. Dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows, 4-wheel ABS brakes, and traction and stability control are just some of the standard features. The 17-inch wheels come with a tire monitor, and 18-inch wheels are optional. Other safety options include xenon HID headlamps, adaptive headlights that adjust for corners, and rain-sensing wipers. Also available is an auto-leveling suspension with settings for Low clearance for a sportier feel, High clearance for rough terrain, and Access clearance, which lowers the vehicle by two inches for easier passenger entry.

Value is everything with the Lexus RX350. This model year of 2009 was the last year of the 2nd generation ( 2004-2009) of this model. The engine is a 3.5 liter V-6 bullet proof engine 2GR-FE model that if properly taken care of ( oil & oil filter change every 5K miles-ideally) , will last at least 300k miles. This is the car that really does check all the boxes. A 2009 is at an age where mileage is still acceptable between 100-160k, which is just fine for a Toyota-Lexus. At a price of between $7,999-10,500 (at least here in SoCal) it’s like getting a nearly new car for the price of just an ok car. All the features, accessories and quiet - luxury ride. And with comfort (95% of this model have leather and moonroof) its a no brainer. Airbags all over the place. Lots of cargo room in back ( find one with the cargo cover !) . If you can find a one owner, dealership maintained car that’s the best! ! Remember, the demographic that bought these babies new could afford to take care of these with the normal maintenance. These first owners were also older so they didn’t drive these hard. Except for bad accidents you really don’t see these in junkyards so that says a lot. If you don’t live in the rust belt of snow and salt on the roads this car just keeps going and going. Absolutely the best car for a student! The RX is the “Honda Civic” of the Lexus world which means you see them everywhere, for a reason. This model of car has been sold since 1998 ! So when price, quality, dependability,, safety, usefulness , and just plain looks all come together, it’s a no brainer of a great car. The ONLY, negative is fuel mileage with 18mpg city and 23 freeway. Sep 27, 2024

The oil hose is rubber and should be replaced by Lexus whether it is under warranty or not. That hose busted in town . Oil everywhere. Replaced it now it has a noise that clicks when you start it, it gets quiet after warming up, when you acceralate clicking gets louder. I love the comfort of it. But so many things I have had to replace. It is a 2009 Lexus RX 350. Afraid to drive it with noise. Not sure what to do . My Nissan Rogue was so reliable.Jun 30, 2024
