The Aveo returns in sedan and hatchback form for 2009. Chevy has made some minor adjustments to option packages and interior materials, but there are no big, notable changes. Aveo sedans gained a number of interior enhancements for 2008, which included higher-quality materials, wood-grain and metallic trim, a driver's armrest, and additional storage space. The hatchback did not receive these changes.
The Aveo has been praised for its economical entry price, thoughtfully laid out ergonomics, and a spacious cabin. Unfortunately, the sub-compact's antiquated powerplant does not offer much in the way of power or fuel economy. Many reviewers have also complained about the manual transmission's awkward feel. The hatchback's interior has not benefited from recent aesthetic updates, and it has more of an economy-car feel than the sedan. The Aveo also faces stiff competition from some newer subcompact offerings courtesy of marques like Hyundai, Honda, Nissan, Scion, and Toyota, as this segment continues to expand with rising fuel prices.
All Aveo trims are powered by a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 103 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual is the standard transmission, but an optional four-speed automatic is also available. EPA estimates are 23/33 mpg with the manual gearbox and 23/31 with the automatic. Despite the underpowered engine and less-than-stellar fuel efficiency, the Aveo has proven more than adequate for daily urban commutes. The suspension is tuned on the softer side, and the steering is responsive.
The Aveo subcompact is available in an entry-level LS trim and two better-equipped LT levels, all in sedan and hatchback body styles. The Aveo5 designation is used for the hatchbacks. The entry-level LS trim is sparsely equipped, with manual accessories, steel wheels, and a simple four-speaker AM/FM radio. The LT trim comes equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, cruise control, a sunroof, power windows, keyless entry, and a CD/MP3 player. Options at the LT level include leatherette upholstery, an in-dash CD changer, and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. While antilock brakes are optional on all trims, side curtain airbags are not available. Front-seat side airbags are standard on all trims.

My daughter learned to drive in this car. Very user friendly and safe. Easy to service carries the great Chevrolet name. Parts and service are always nearby and at a reasonable cost. Can't think of a better car for the kids.
August 29, 2013Owning the Aveo for over a year now, I am still impressed with the roominess and overall utility. I am glad I got the bare bones LS as I'm sure what performance I get would be diminished with an automatic and air conditioning. It's quieter inside than I expected. Chevy was quite prompt in replacing an inside door handle whose chrome was peeling. I've had no other maintenance issues yet. Mileage has been right around but not more than claimed but I have to watch my own driving habits in this case. My only two issues would be that my dogs would prefer a flat folding back seat and the roof did not fare to well under our apple tree this summer. The "flip-n- fold" seat is a nice idea but not if you're taller as the front seats must come forward to accommodate the feature.
November 6, 2009I LOVE my 2009 Chevy Aveo5 !!! I special ordered it on 09-10-2008. It's a Summer Yellow LT2+ trim level with the 5 speed manual transmission. I added the Sport Perforated Leatherette Interior,15 inch Sport Alloy Wheels,Rear Spoiler, and the Premium Factory Moonroof.The car arrived on 12-30-2008 and I picked it up the next day. I added it to my car collection(now numbering 18 vehicles) because of the insane price of gasoline late last summer. I helped GM out because they gave me a year of OnStar and 3 months of free XM Radio.I have JUST renewed my XM Radio subscription.I got the LIFETIME package and I added Sirius to boot. Check out the leather wrapped gear shift lever on the '09 Aveo5.Looks to me like it could pass for the one in ANY '09 Corvette ! The leather wrapped steering wheel is a nice touch as well.If you're in a Fit or a Versa, you're not steering and shifting with real leather in your hands. You're also not going to get to flash your headlights at the 2010 Camaro !!!

April 30, 2009Performance - good acceleration @ high revs excellent brakes good handling Build Quality - Korea standard - good at all Interior and exterior - excellent styling for this class 35 MPG or 4,7 L/100km ~ 6 L/100km with clima The last 4 words ;) end.
September 10, 2009The car has 1.8L engine producing under 100hp but good fuel economy in the city, not so good on the highways. The car is cheap (under 10,000 new) so my overall rating is high because for the money it has been a great car.

April 8, 2021The Aveo is a good cheap first car. The resale value is very low because they do not make them anymore. If you can find one for cheap, make sure it has low miles on it. It is a good value car.
June 8, 2012love the 5 speed, not as peppy as i would like, but the price of 6479 for a new car could not say no. brand new with 16 miles on it.
July 2, 2009This is a very nice car, this one os actully the base model which i dont think i would go for, it didnt have anything power, excpet for power steering of course, the windows and locks were manual. I also didnt like how rough it was. Hitting bumps was a nightmare.
