Saturn Sky Stuck in Garage
My 2008 Saturn Redline Sky is. stuck in my garage with a dead battery. Is there a way to get the car in neutral without the car being started?

The 2008 Saturn Sky is a jazzy, sporty convertible with an affordable sticker price. Seems like the folks at Saturn might have been inspired by the 1990s success of the Mazda Miata: The 2008 Sky has the same funky styling, low price point, and (dare I say it?) slightly underpowered engine of that iconic sports legend.
The good news about the Sky's inline-4 engines is that they're great on gas, with EPA estimates of 20-22 mpg city, 28-31 mpg highway. The Red Line engine, a 2.0-liter turbo plant, clocks at 260 horsepower; the Roadster engine is a 2.4-liter mill with a 177-horsepower output. Still, with a curb weight under 3,000 pounds, that may feel like enough oomph for most drivers.
Disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and a low-slung, curvy exterior give the '08 Saturn Sky a racetrack feel. Both trims ship with manual transmissions, but a 5-speed automatic is an option on the Roadster.
It's still hard to characterize the Roadster and Red Line trims on the 2008 Sky; the trim identities haven't quite gelled in this, the model's second year. The Red Line seems focused more on performance, and the Roadster on style, but Saturn's marketing doesn't quite differentiate them. Nonetheless, the 2008 Saturn Sky looks like a lot of fun for your dollar.

Essentially, this is a GM attempt at the Miata. The Redline version offers 80-90 more HP over the stock 170. My personal opinion is that the Sky is a more modern looking vehicle compared to its Pontiac cousin, the solstice.
They are fun weekender roadsters with little else to bring to the table. There is little storage, but more than you may realize at first. The Sky/Solstice are comfortable rides for most people and a joy to drive. I personally own a redline with 5-speed manual. Never gets old dropping the top on a beautiful day and going for a drive.Oct 13, 2020

Very enjoyable, basic sports car. No computer controlled anything. It weighs barely 3000 pounds and with 260 HP and 260 LB. FT. of torque it will get sideways anytime you want. The top stows into the trunk area reducing even more the meager storage space but boy does it look cool with the top stowed. No visible convertible top makes for one stylish ride. The 2.0 liter engine sounds rorty on start-up but is never hard on the ears. Stereo easily heard at freeway speeds even with the top down. Consistently gets 27 MPG at 75 MPH in 5th gear but would be even better with a 6-speed gearbox. Too bad they're out of production. I predict they will be a collectible in 10 years.Mar 31, 2015

I think that this car is what it was designed for "Fun". Its a car that you can jump in and go without worry of it breaking down. I get about 31 mpg and feel the road as im driving. I like that there are after market parts still available for this car. It wouldnt take much to get this 4 cyclinder over 300HP. I think GM hit a home run when they came out with the Sky redline.Mar 09, 2014

sometimes you cant help but to accelerate when changing lanes. always hoping to be first in line at the red light. it is a very nice car. the tires are expensive so keep the traction control on...it will save you some bucks on tires.Jan 21, 2013

This car has an extended warranty until October 2015 on bumper to bumper. Drives like a dream....No problems with it at all. Tire warranty until October 2011. I can no longer really drive it as I have become recently disabled. I would like to get out from under the amount owing on it. I am located in Canada so any interested buyers be aware of that. This car is in mint primo condition. it has about 13600 kilometers so about 8000miles on it. This car has only ever burned shell or petro canada premium gasoline and it gets fantastic mileage.Jun 05, 2011

One of the best cars we have ever owned - an absolute head turner.
Strong performance - acceleration is exhilarating.
No build quality issues - although we only put 11K miles on this car.
Appearance - One of the best looking cars ever made. This was a win for GM. Then they stopped making them. *Sigh*
Cost of ownership: Takes premium fuel, but the gas mileage was quite good for a sports car - high 20's

I absoluely love this car. I missed being able to throw my foot down without holding back! I mean, without getting tickets. Ah, the joys of a 4-cylinder. I also missed having a convertible, even though I hardly ever use that particular function. I like having the option. To answer the questions asked, acceleration is less than in a Mustang (my previous car), obviously, but braking and handling are amazing. It hasn't needed repairs, or even gas, since I started driving it, because I haven't had it very long. Cost of ownership is actually slightly less than a Mustang. As far as appearance, it is absolutely gorgeous, and in my new favorite car color which I think of as melancholic blue (sorry, but I don't have the acutal manual, which would probably tell me the real name of the color!). I love my Vue, first it is a zippy and cute SUV. It has heated seats and auto start. For the price it was the perfect car for me. When i need pick up it is there. It is really good in the snow and slippery roads even though it isn't all wheel drive.
I love the onstar that always tells me if there is a problem with the car and also lowers my auto insurance. The service dept at Saturn is like no other. They are courteous and fast. They have a comfortable waiting area with fresh cookies,popcorn and pop and bottled water all for free. If the problem will take long, they set you up with a loaner car for free. All in all, I would highly recommend a Saturn to anyone.Jan 02, 2009

Performance is exceptional - much quicker than comparable models from BMW and Mercedes. Mechanically very sound so far, with no issues whatsoever. Interior quality is slightly below what you might expect, although sound system is excellent. Lack of storage is an issue for overnight trips. A very fun car to drive overall. The handling of the car was alright, accel was very sub par. Not at all good for a 40+k car. The interior styling was terrible because of the cheap materials. The car, despite its many cons, it very fun to drive. I would reccomend it to a rich person.....Aug 02, 2008

Performed well, acceleration was fair until the turbo spooled. brakes very well and handles okay, i was expecting better. interior needs a serious design change in that the shifter sits so high up too long driving will make your arm go numb from lack of blood circulation. it looks good, though. the car shifts like a dream. it is so positive its insane.Jul 20, 2008

This car is by far the BEST poor man's roadster. I will own one in about a year. You will not believe how well it drives and hugs the road, don't try to play "corners" while cornering, it won't work, the car stays level the entire time! CRAZY!Jan 28, 2008
