The "new" Z was introduced to overall styling and performance acclaim in 2004 and received an engine upgrade in 2007 with minor hood resculpting - a slight center bulge reminiscent of the 240Z. For 2008, it sees few changes.
In 2007, Nissan revised 80% of its highly acclaimed VQ 3.5-liter V6 (shared with the Infiniti G35 sedan). A higher block deck height resulted in longer connecting rods and a redesigned front-strut-tower brace, thus the hood bulge. In addition to that, it received a new dual-intake system, revised cylinder head, revamped variable valve timing, higher compression, and a few other changes.
While the additional 6 hp (the engine now produces 306 hp with the manual transmission) may not seem worth it, the more immediate improvement is an increase in the broader range of usable torque. Nissan has renamed the engine the VQ35HR, with HR standing for "high-revving," as the redline for the manual-transmission engine increased by 500 rpm to 7,500. Along with a performance increase, these engine tweaks have also improved gas mileage by 1 to 2 mpg for both manual and automatic transmissions; EPA estimates are 20/27 mpg. 0-60 comes up in 5.2 seconds with the manual 6-speed transmission; a 5-speed automatic is optional.
Although taut, the suspension maintains control in all conditions and is easy to correct if a driver gets too enthusiastic. Based on Nissan's Front Midship chassis, shared with the Infiniti G35, the V6's engine mass rests aft of the front-axle centerline (two cylinders sit forward of the front axle and four aft of it), giving the Z close-to-perfect balance. Cornering grip is high and provides plenty of smiles per mile in the twisties. Steering is precise and well-balanced.
The comfortable and intelligent interior is well laid out. Controls are within easy reach and intuitive. As one reviewer put it, you won't find "the unfortunate kudzu of over-elaborate techo-excess" that plagues BMW, Lexus, and other makers. And this is very much in keeping with Nissan's original intent for its Z cars.
In addition to coupe and roadster versions, the 350Z is available in a new limited-production Nismo high-performance edition. Capable of 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, the Nismo has larger Brembo brakes and a tuned suspension, as it's basically the new factory "track" Z. More-aggressive front, rear, and side aerodynamics are topped off with a large rear decklid spoiler.
Overall, few cars available below $30k can provide the same level of entertainment as the 350Z.

I like everything about the Z. I bought a new one I liked it so much, actually this is my third one! Anyone who likes sport cars, especially 2 seat convertibles will absolutely love this car! A proper sports car for the everyman. If we had just one sentence to describe the Nissan 350Z, that'd be it. While there have always been plenty of unobtainable sports cars out there to drool over, the 350Z's relatively compact dimensions, rear-wheel drive, two seats, muscular engine and sharp handling came at a price that real people could actually afford.Aug 17, 2014

This is my 2nd 350Z. When I saw it on the show room floor I had to get it. The NISMO style looks awesome. The car is quick but most notable over 40 mph. The car handles great on dry pavement. The road noise was loud until I installed dynamat which lowered it by 30 dcb.Jan 17, 2014

The interior looks awesome with the red and black seats. The dark gray Nismo alloy rims are a nice contrast to the silver body. The car handles great on dry pavement but the back end can get squirrely on wet pavement. The tires are new but can wear around 30k miles due to the camber tires. When the tires wear it starts to get louder inside.
The car accelerates nicely and the large Brembo brakes stops it quickly. The doors are heavy and it feels like a larger safer car. The ride is stiff yet comfortable. Overall it's a very fun car to drive and I enjoyed owning it. I have never drifted this car or abused it. The hardest I was on the car was testing the top speed on a desert road. Top speed was just under 160 mph. This car has always used synthetic oil since the 1st oil change with changes done on a regular basis approx. every 4k miles.Oct 22, 2013

This is a Collateral Vehicle that was seized. I had no idea of what we were getting our hands on when we arrived. Can I say I was very happy to find this vehicle in great shape and ready to roll. This is my 3rd Z dating back to a 1979 280 ZX and a 1990 300 ZX. It is the natural evolution of its predecessors, but unique in its own way too. It retains fabulous Nissan reliability and maintainability with even fewer faults and foibles than the older models. It is one of the most fun cars to hop into and drive off to the beach--or the supermarket. It is as at home on the highway as it is on track day. The addition of a high-quality aftermarket sound system corrected the only significant shortcoming I noticed on buying it. That also helps to offset the noticeable road noise. This car was a huge bargain! I do not know of another car with a better grin for the buck value than the 350Z--except maybe the 370Z!Apr 25, 2012

its quick, and nimble. car gets up and goes, doesnt like to be driven lightly. its a fun car to drive indeed, just sucks for everyday driving very bumpy. and its about 60 bucks a week to fill up, and 40 bucks every 3k miles for gas. the catch is the tires cost about 650 a piece to replace. nice styling amazing handling just slightly low on power. i have had no issues with it and has definately taken its share of my abuse. everything works smoothly and could not ask for much more. One of the best cars ever built, but not for everyone. The aftermarket support for the HR motor is not nearly as big as the support for the DE. Twin turbo set-ups are amazing if you can afford them. Driving this car really turns heads. Surly to get stares where ever you go. Aug 05, 2009

The build quality is very good, although could be a little better. The performance is an outstanding amount to start off with and you can always upgrade parts. Being a Japanese make means the maintenance isnt that high at all. In short, bags of fun for half the price of its competitors.Jul 12, 2009

Nissan 350z secondary timing chain tensioner wont compress
Hello i am working on some timing work on my 2008 350z touring. The tensioner on the passenger side cam timing assembly wont compress. The drivers side will easily compress down, i can use 1 finger and it will compress all the way down. The other side i will push down with lots of force and it will barely even budge, and after it does move down just slightlyyy it wont budge at all. I would really not like to remove the tensioner as i am pretty inexperienced in engine work, and with the tensioner being stuck all the way out it will be a huge pain to slide the chain off because you have to remove the chain, and gears to even get to the tensioner. I'm already suprised ive made it as far as i have without breaking anything. But i also realize that timing is something you want go be extra cautious. Does anyone know if there's anything i can do to get the tensioner unstuck? Would it be fine to leave alone because its stuck out so it will keep the chain tension?(i know it probably wont but cant hurt to ask). If i do have to replace for the tensioner how will i get the chain off with the tensioner all the way out, its already hard enough to get the chain off with the tensioner all the way compressed. Any help is appreciated! I apologise for any stupid questions.
