Except for the addition of a standard MP3 audio input jack and the deletion of a cassette player, the 2008 Kia Rondo remains unchanged in its second year on the market. This font-wheel drive crossover competes directly with the Mazda5, though critics say it doesn't match that car's style or performance. What it does offer is a spacious interior and versatile cargo and passenger configurations.
The 2008 Rondo comes standard with two rows, with the option to add a third row. While the second row offers more than 38 inches of legroom and slides forward and back, the third row is more suited for kids. Both rows fold flat and split-fold, and the front passenger seat also folds flat for up to eight feet of storage space. Two-row vehicles also feature under-floor storage compartments. A standard roof rack provides more space.
Both LX and EX trims come with a choice of a 162-hp, 2.4-liter I4 and 4-speed automatic or a 182-hp, 2.7-liter V6 and 5-speed automatic. Both transmissions feature Sportmatic shifting. The LX starts drivers off with 16-inch wheels, full power features, front and rear power outlets, and a CD player. The EX adds some flashier touches, such as chrome exterior accents, a leather wheel and shifter, 17-inch wheels, remote entry, and a CD player that's MP3-compatible. The 2008 Rondo earns four and five stars in crash tests, thanks to standard ABS brakes, stability control, dual font-side and side curtain airbags for both rows, and a tire monitor. It also comes with Kia's 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.
The crossover wagon gets praised for its easy car-like handling, quiet ride, and roomy comfort, and its high safety record scores points with the families it's targeted at. Negatives include its undistinctive looks, minivan styling, cramped third row, and lack of a manual transmission. Some find the lack of sliding side doors hinders access to the third row.

Update since my first review in 2015. Ive now had my Rondo for 6 years. Its still going strong with over 200,000 miles. It has never refused to start up and go. Never broke down on a trip or anywhere. Still gets good gas milage, I have replaced the Purge valve, AC bearing, shocks, struts and breaks, two sets of tires. one set of plugs, regular oil changes, and two front end alignments. Thats basically it. Since the car is now 13 years old , I thought about a new one, but I really dont want to give this one up. Nov 30, 2021

Car runs and drives great, very quite, no rattles or anything. Gets around 22 mpg now, I have installed Royal Purple oil in the engine and has made a difference in performance as well as mpg. I do not drive a lot, but my car has to be in top condition, I am disabled and unable to walk long distances. Oct 01, 2011

the kia rondo is a great car i love it but need a bigger car it has alot of get
up and go and even though it looks like a family car it drives like a sports
car. the handling is great hugs turns well gas milage isnt to bad it around

Tons of room. drives great, headroom, stuff room. Pretty
good gas mileage,
4cyl has no problem keeping up with traffic. and more.
car is light and you can feel it when it is really windy. tall
wagon shape and light weight help in all areas except high

The car gets fair miles for the amount you have to pay and its sleek small but spacey they needed to replace the fuel pump byt that was free and its sorrta fun to drive i used to rumble when you backed up but for its price i have saved some moneyNov 17, 2008

I think the arm rests need to be closer to the driver. It was kinda hard for me to get comfortable. The car would sometimes squeak if I went over a bump (with just 18,000 miles on the odometer). And I was expecting much better gas mileage from this crossover-like car. And I hated the exterior styling.
But there were some positives. I did like the Auto stick feature. The engine was pretty peepy (the only reason this car gets 3 stars instead of 2) & did have a good roar for a V6. There were a lot of compartments in the spacious trunk. And the 2nd row was very roomy. The interior styling wasn't bad & the sound system was pretty good.
It wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't buy one either.
This is clearly a girl car. Hell, there's even a hook for a purse on the passenger side.Aug 07, 2008
