Now you can work hard and play hard, courtesy of the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The 1500 designates this full-size pickup as the half-ton model, but equipped with five different engine choices, it can tow up to 10,000 pounds. For 2008, the pickup gains standard satellite radio on all trims, and adds optional 22-inch wheels and an optional power driver's seat in Regular Cab models.
The 2008 Sierra 1500 comes in three cab lengths -- 2-door Regular that seats two, and four-door Extended and Crew, which both seat six in two rows. The rear doors on the Extended are reverse-hinged and open in tandem with the front doors, while the Crew has four separate doors. Both Regular and Extended pickups have a choice of a 6.6 or 8-foot bed, but the Crew is stuck with a 5.8-foot bed to compensate for the spacious room inside.
Trims start with the basic Work Truck and move through SLE, SLT, and the Denali. The Denali is distinct from the others, loaded with comfort features and packing a 6.2-liter, 403-hp V8 and 6-speed automatic. The other trims can choose between a 4.3-liter, 195-hp V6, a 4.8-liter, 295-hp V8, a 5.3-liter, 315-hp V8, and a 6.0-liter, 367-hp V8. The latter two come with Active Fuel Management to improve fuel economy, and the 5.3 is available as a flex-fuel E85 vehicle. A 4-speed automatic is the only transmission, one that drivers say feels outdated and awkward. All trims are offered in both rear-wheel and either part-time or automatic all-wheel drive. The AWD system features low-range gearing for off-road use, except in the Denali. There are four suspensions depending on the pickup purpose. The Z83 and 85 focus on comfort, the Z60 on handling, and the Z71 on off-roading.
On the inside, the 2008 Sierra 1500 offers two decors. The WT and SLE feature a Pure Pickup interior that's more functional, with larger controls. The SLT and Denali feature a Luxury interior, full of power accessories and leather. Coming up later in 2008 will be the Sierra All-Terrain, which uses the Z71 off-road suspension in combination with larger shocks and distinctive chrome trim on the inside and out to set it apart from the other pickups in the lineup. Drivers agree that the 2008 Sierra 1500 retains its utility while being amazingly quiet and comfortable, with a smooth ride, lots of standard features, and a stylish look for a pickup. The lack of a spray-in bedliner, the clunky transmission, and the requisite low fuel economy are the biggest downsides.

What owners say
"The 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 generally receives positive reviews from owners, with many praising its power, towing capability, and spacious interior. Reviewers particularly liked the truck's strong performance, especially for towing and hauling. However, some drivers noted concerns about fuel economy and a few electronic issues. Overall, it's seen as a reliable truck that provides a good mix of style and performance."
Pulls great love the truck roomy and very dependable
November 13, 20245.3L V8 has plenty of power. Acceleration is acceptable for a full-size pickup. Braking is particularly good. Handling is exceptional considering the width and length of the vehicle. The vehicle itself is a quality vehicle. No issues related to build quality. Appearance is, in the only words I can think of, manly. It looks like a pickup a man would drive. Gas mileage is not the best, but considering that it has a 5.3L V8, you should not expect great gas mileage. Currently getting 14.8 MPG. With a 26 gallon (U.S.) fuel tank, you can still get to where you need to go, although the price to fill the pickup can be high. The Active Fuel Management feature, however, is great (switches between 4 and 8 cylinders depending on driving conditions). It's a fun vehicle. Loaded on the inside. I don't have a navigation system primarily because I don't need one. Sound system is great. Although it's a pickup, it doesn't drive like one. My pickup is Stealth Gray in color, and I can tell you that a number of people have asked me where I purchased my pickup simply because of how good my pickup looks. Enough said.
October 24, 2008Enjoying all the features.. just missing the backup camera.

November 20, 2022You pay a premium for the style and features of the Denali trim line, but it's worth it. I've loved this truck since the day I got it and am still very happy with it. That's saying a lot since I'm a gadget guy and love the new features you can get on newer models. I have added cameras (front, back and sides), sound proofing (though it was already quiet), and an aftermarket bluetooth phone connection. The GMC Nav isn't the greatest, but it's handy if you don't want to use your smart phone.
February 23, 2014I love my truck. It has the power I need to pass or rolls along to save gas. It's goes from V-8 to V-4, so its great on gas. I love the on-star and in car phone. It has a great sound system, with Bose speakers. Leather light tan interior and brown on the outside. I has everything I could want. I have had a GMC the last 3 trucks I have owned and I wouldn't own anything else.
July 20, 2008Great overall truck, it’s a truck that can both look good and get the job done. Despite being a 2008 it doesn’t fail to get people to turn their heads thinking it’s a much newer truck.
January 19, 2021This truck is excellent, huge amount of power and torque, great for towing large boats. With the dual exhuast it sounds excellent, I put it into auto shift when driving short distances and it shifts great no jumps or hiccups between gears.
September 16, 2013Great truck. I wish the bed was 6 feet but other than that great power and smooth ride. Like all factory vehicles i needed new tires at 30k. I really like that GMC went to rear drums and removed the rear pads and rotors
January 30, 2011Great all around daily driver truck, great for towing, and hauling. Very powerful and fun to drive. Cost of ownership is not the best considering the cost of gas. This truck is fun to drive but can be challenging to park.
July 26, 2009My Truck is a 2008 GMC 1500....5.3 liter V8...Short Bed Regular Cab...Some of the modifications i have done are GM Performance Air Intake, GM Performance Exhaust by Borla, Line X bed liner, Bed cover caps, 18" XD Series wheels, Ready lift 2.25" leveling kit, CB radio by Cobra with PA coming out of the front grille, Tool Box with CB antenna sticks, Tailight led light bar....more mods im trying to do are 33" tires, and later on possibly a 6" lift kit...
