Write a reviewThe Ford Edge crossover vehicle, which combines elements of both an SUV and a sedan, receives a number of styling updates as well as several new options for 2008. In addition, the Edge lineup expands with the addition of the new Edge Limited trim, an upscale version of the sporty, low-slung vehicle.
Up front, the Edge retains its bold chrome three-bar grille, a design element Ford uses more and more to distinguish its vehicles from those of its competitors. New exterior elements include chrome accents designed to spiff up its appearance, as well as new optional 20-inch chrome wheels and Pirelli tires, which help improve the vehicle's ride and handling.
Other new features include an optional power liftgate, power-fold second-row seats, and the Ford Sync, a wireless interior communications system that enables drivers to use voice commands to manage the navigation system and make cellphone calls.
The Edge comes in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions. All versions receive a 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine with dual overhead cams and advanced variable cam timing, which offer enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. It's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears, which further helps improve fuel efficiency.
Safety featues include Ford's AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, which provides improved traction and control on slippery surfaces. Four-wheel disc antilock brakes, MacPherson struts, and an independent suspension provide a smooth and capable ride, according to drivers and reviewers. In addition, the Edge offers a tight turning radius. However, some drivers note that the Edge's brakes, when applied, take too long to stop the vehicle, a fact borne out by recent tests, which indicate that the Edge has one of the longest braking distances in its class.
As far as the interior is concerned, the Edge comes well-appointed, with all the expected power amenities as well as flexible seating and a full range of air bags. Many drivers also enjoy the Panoramic Vista roof, which includes a large forward panel that tilts up or fully opens, and a fixed rear skylight. The Vista roof is optional on the SEL and Limited trims, but is not available on the entry-level SE trim.

The car was in really bad condition so it was an ABSOLUTE NO. I then decided to drive another Edge ( 2014) they had on the lot which I loved but thought was way too expensive for the year & milleage so I took it to a Ford dealer to have it looked at and it was completely rotted underneath, the air conditioner was broken along with SEVERAL other issues that would have had me sitting on a very expensive lemon. I do not recomend this dealership as there was no way they didnt know of all the issues with this car. Spending $180 to get the car checked out saved me THOUSANDS of dollars. Buyer beware! This is a great vehicle. Rain, snow or sunshine, I get the best of all seasons sitting in my Edge Limited... with AWD for the snow, Vistaroof for the sunshine and rain! I initially and still do like the styling and ride height of the vehicle especially with the 20 inch wheels. It has the ability to safely accelerate to highway speeds for merges and passing on two lane roadways. The breaking is good and it required very little other than the usual oil changes and maintenance. I loved the Vista roof and the sun shade which operates with no effort to keep the car cool on those hot summer days. It is easy to enter and exit the vehicle due to the height without being so high that it needs some sort of running board or step device to get in.

I would buy another one of these when ever I get back on my feet. My wife loved it and it started to grow on me too. Fortunately we never had to drive it in bad weather like ice or snow but seemed to do real good in the rain so don't know about slick conditions. We have three children ranging in age from 12 to 7, and we absolutely love this car! There is enough room for all five of us to go on a road trip comfortably. Mine is a light blue color and I get so many compliments on it. I wish it was a little bit better on gas, with the prices almost reaching $4 a gallon right now, but the handling and performance of this automobile more than makes up for it. I think it accelerates well and I definitely feel safe when I am driving it. All in all, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable family car.Sep 17, 2012

The Edge has a nice design with a powerful V6 motor. It handles well on the freeways with plenty of up and go when needing to pass someone. The only downside is the fuel economy which gives me about 20-21 mpg going back and forth to work. Jul 26, 2012

This vehicle is fun to drive. Its not a sports car, but the controlability and handling is pretty remarkable.
Smooth and strong, this SUV makes a any driving situation a pleasure.
There is quite a bit of space inside and you feel safe behind the wheel!
I appreciate the quick response upon acceleration when needed.

Good acceleration. Brakes are good. Tight turns must be taken slowly, but that's to be expected. No problems with anything yet, although, Microsoft Sync has been a little buggy. It's still a fun car to drive. About 16 miles per gallon city, not bad for a crossover.Aug 01, 2009

I have a 2008 SEL and find it to be a great car except for two
things. You should drive any Edge near dark and after dark to
check the readability of the dashboard. my 2008 is very poor-
very hard to read. Also the low beams are rather weak . not a
fun car to drive after the sun goes down. Ford dealers could do
nothing to help. Lets hope the 2010 has improved but you

Interior: veryy roomy, love the reclining backseat,
love SYNC, the steering wheel has everything you
need, unless of course you're my dad and you just
HAVE to do it the hard way, the seat are very comfortable (try a 6 hour drive to the middle of
nowhere, oklahoma), love the two-tone stitching,
the camel leather looks nice, black is nice too
though.
Cost-
gas: ouch, 20 MPG average; got 25 on the way to a
tourney in norman two years ago.
maintenance: wouldn't know.
Fun Factor-
between the nice styling, the radio, the seats, and
the get up and go, it's very fun; one of the few
automatics i would ever consider owning.

For a crossover, it's a pretty decent vehicle. Roomy enough for someone of my stature and peppy enough to get with the flow of traffic pretty well. The only drawback I see with is the air conditioning seems to blow weakly. However, that can be counteracted with opening the glove compartment.Nov 01, 2008

This is my second Edge -- I liked my first one so much. I have the AWD, & do all my driving in the city, so gas mileage is mediocre. Also, SYNC doesn't work for me. why does my ford edge have a gas smell?
I recently had my gas tank repaired due to it leaking from the seam. There was a recall that ford put out but myI did have a leak in the gas tank underneath and has been repaired but still have a gas smell. Took to repair shop to check again to find out what may be causing it to smell. no leaks under vehicle so don't know what can be causing it.
