2008 BMW 6 Series Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
Classic and refined rather than over-the-top sporty, the 2008 BMW 6 Series continues the coupe/convertible line introduced in 2004. Essentially a two-door, four-seat version of the automaker's midsize 5 Series, the 6 Series exhibits its own distinctive styling, with a reshaped shark nose that flares stylishly at the sides, double round bi-xenon headlights, a wider air intake for 2008, a low roofline, and two sporty exhaust pipes, subtle reminders of the powerplant that resides under the long, elegant hood.
The 2008 6 Series borrows its engine, as well as most of its underpinnings, from the BMW 550i. That means it sports a 4.8-liter double-overhead-cam V8 engine that produces an acceptable 360 horsepower. While some drivers and reviewers note that the 6 Series tips the scales on the heavy side, the V8 moves the rear-wheel-drive coupe and convertible along at an exhilarating pace. Despite its big engine, the 6 Series squeezes out 22 miles per gallon on the highway, according to BMW.
A sport-tuned suspension with speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering ensures that the 6 Series handles nimbly in even the tightest curves. Active roll stabilization (ARS) and Dynamic Stability Control help keep the 6 Series on the road in tricky conditions, while electro-hydraulic antilock brakes give the 6 Series all the stopping power it needs.
Drivers can order the 6 Series with one of two transmissions. A six-speed manual transmission with a sport mode comes standard, while a new optional six-speed Sport Automatic Transmission gives drivers the ability to choose between automatic or manual-shift modes, with manual shifting via paddle shifters located on the steering wheel. A Sports button makes the new shifter more dynamic, according to BMW.
Inside, the 6 Series offers all the expected luxury-oriented amenities, including Dakota leather upholstery, brushed aluminum interior trim, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and a 10-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player and MP3 capability.
Drivers note that while the 6 Series can carry four passengers, the back seats can be cramped for adults. Other negatives include the iDrive system, which drivers can use to access the car's electronics, and which many have noted can be overly complicated.
The 6 Series has its detractors, especially reviewers who point out that some of its competitors offer a more comfortable ride and better value. Still, as the largest coupe and convertible available from BMW, the 6 Series has plenty to offer drivers who lean toward the elegance and performance of cars that sport the double-kidney design.

Dealer Dissatisfaction
I bought a 2008 BMW 650i convertible from Klett Automotive Go in St Augustine, FL. I purchased an extended warranty given the age of the car. Two days after purchasing the car, I experienced an extreme transmission problem. At first the dealer was VERY helpful trying to identify and repair the car. I took it back 3 times, yet the problem was never fixed. After a dangerous event occurred with the same problem, the specialty transmission mechanic figured that the Transmission Control Module needs replacing - to the toon of several thousands of dollars. The mechanic called my warranty company for approval, but was told they WOULD NOT cover the costs. The dealer was aware of the transmission problem, and is now trying to dodge my calls. Not only dodging me, but even lying to me. Any suggestions? HELP!
Add oil sensor
My cars warning trjangle light comes on. The system says add one qt. Oil, But also says all systems are "ok". When checking dip stick, it show full. Whts the deal?

What do I need to qualify for a new BMW 2008 x6. I just seen it today on CarGurus.
BMW ‘sheer driving pleasure’? Think again
Don’t be fooled by the BMW ads, the 650i is the worst car we have ever owned. We bought a brand new BMW 650i in 2008 - it was supposed to be our dream car - and we have had nothing but trouble since. The car had a serious defect which left us stressed, stranded and frustrated. On numerous occasions the car took us to our destination and then mysteriously refused to start. We returned it to BMW Sydney for its first service. After servicing, BMW attempted to return it a number of times but couldn’t as it kept breaking down. As the defect could not be fixed, BMW reluctantly supplied a 2010 model upon payment of an additional $55,000. Unbelievably, the second car exhibited exactly the same fault, refusing to start for us and BMW staff on numerous occasions between 2010 and 2013. To happen in one vehicle is unlucky, but twice? That’s a serious problem which BMW refuses to deal with fairly. During its very first service, the second car failed to start even for the BMW service manager. In December 2012 after many more no-starts, BMW sent a driver to collect the car, which again failed to start. In May 2013 the car was trucked to the BMW service centre in Sydney where it spent over three months. We refused to accept return delivery until BMW guaranteed the defect was fixed. Their response was nothing short of contemptuous. Incredibly, BMW claims that the no-start fault is our fault, caused by low battery power from insufficient use (>21,000 kms since new). Really? For a luxury car that cost $225,000 you’d expect it to start under water. Every time. Why does it start first off and then die after the first leg of a journey? And why does it sometimes miraculously recover if left for half an hour or more, when other times it won’t restart at all. That doesn’t sound like low battery power to us. BMW then sent us a trickle charger to maintain the battery. We diligently kept the battery charged. Even after that, the car sometimes failed to start mid journey. BMW has made the astonishing claim in writing that as a rough guide the 650i “needs a trip every second day for a period of more than 25 minutes and at least one trip exceeding one hour each week” to avoid the no-start issue. This information was not disclosed on purchase. Had we known this from the start, we would never have bought the car. BMW acknowledges the car has a no-start issue and yet refuses to settle our case fairly, offering to buy the car back for a fraction of its new price and substantially less than the advertised online price of the same model car. This shows the contempt BMW has for its customers. We even wrote (chapter and verse) to both the chairman of the supervisory board and to the chief executive officer of BMW in Germany but received a reply from their subordinate placing the blame upon us. How can it be our fault? It seems that lack of customer care and lack of pride in their reputation is the basis of a culture that permeates the entire BMW conglomerate. BMW customers beware, BMW does not care. If you want a quality, reliable car that won’t leave you stranded, do not buy a 650i. If you want decent customer care and an organization that stands behind its vehicles, do not buy a BMW at all.
