Classic and refined rather than over-the-top sporty, the 2008 BMW 6 Series continues the coupe/convertible line introduced in 2004. Essentially a two-door, four-seat version of the automaker's midsize 5 Series, the 6 Series exhibits its own distinctive styling, with a reshaped shark nose that flares stylishly at the sides, double round bi-xenon headlights, a wider air intake for 2008, a low roofline, and two sporty exhaust pipes, subtle reminders of the powerplant that resides under the long, elegant hood.
The 2008 6 Series borrows its engine, as well as most of its underpinnings, from the BMW 550i. That means it sports a 4.8-liter double-overhead-cam V8 engine that produces an acceptable 360 horsepower. While some drivers and reviewers note that the 6 Series tips the scales on the heavy side, the V8 moves the rear-wheel-drive coupe and convertible along at an exhilarating pace. Despite its big engine, the 6 Series squeezes out 22 miles per gallon on the highway, according to BMW.
A sport-tuned suspension with speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering ensures that the 6 Series handles nimbly in even the tightest curves. Active roll stabilization (ARS) and Dynamic Stability Control help keep the 6 Series on the road in tricky conditions, while electro-hydraulic antilock brakes give the 6 Series all the stopping power it needs.
Drivers can order the 6 Series with one of two transmissions. A six-speed manual transmission with a sport mode comes standard, while a new optional six-speed Sport Automatic Transmission gives drivers the ability to choose between automatic or manual-shift modes, with manual shifting via paddle shifters located on the steering wheel. A Sports button makes the new shifter more dynamic, according to BMW.
Inside, the 6 Series offers all the expected luxury-oriented amenities, including Dakota leather upholstery, brushed aluminum interior trim, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and a 10-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player and MP3 capability.
Drivers note that while the 6 Series can carry four passengers, the back seats can be cramped for adults. Other negatives include the iDrive system, which drivers can use to access the car's electronics, and which many have noted can be overly complicated.
The 6 Series has its detractors, especially reviewers who point out that some of its competitors offer a more comfortable ride and better value. Still, as the largest coupe and convertible available from BMW, the 6 Series has plenty to offer drivers who lean toward the elegance and performance of cars that sport the double-kidney design.

(35 reviews)Bluetooth sync with phone & music is great - premium sound system - paddle shift is fun - top down in so. cal is always super nice! Lots of power & handles extremely well. Spacious trunk & Put 2 car seats in the back and the kids fit fine!
I can actually say I do miss this car! Once I upgraded the suspension the handling was more like a 3 series car aka Big Go Cart basically! I also got greeat gas mileage out of the 5 speed transmission equipped 6er considering it has a 3.5l Inline 6. Much lighter, much better handeling, and more readily available parts then for my current Jaguar. You get thumbs up and people stopping you all the time, like what is that car, oh wow a BMW 6 series, WOW not seen one of those in years! True exclusivity without the LAmbo, Ferrari, Benz, Maserati, Prices. There is also still lots of sftermarket support and you can easily retorfit the car with a turbocharger from the Euro 745i period specific turbo car as it just swaps right over for supercar performance. Room is also good for taller drivers like I am, but rear seat room is truely only good for children or small adults under 6' tall. I still HIGHLY recommedn one of these as long as it is not a rust prone freak. Make sure to look for no rust on the rear wheel arches, rocker panels, and no under side rust especially near the floor board vent holes (Typical rust Spots on these cars!). Great car also for Drifting, track racing, or a daily driver. I got 20mpg in town in my 5-speed car, although had upgraded injectors and adjustable Fuel pressure Regulator Two great upgrades, and a performance chip from Dinan.
It is actually a 1985 635csi for some reason they do not list it so I had to list as a 2008 650i. It is getting a freshen up this winter fixing some small rust issues, still one of the most fun cars I have owned or driven even for being a 24 year old car. The Baverian Ferrari
Great car and worth the enormous price tag. I bought the M series and then completely customized the exterior, but the M series interior was too well done to touch. I test drove the 650i and it was nothing short of outstanding, but I would not settle for anything less then the M series. If the cash is there I would definitly recommend the M6 for anyone in a mid life crisis (lol), or for a fast and luxurious car that defines BMW on all levels.
Like everything about the Car! The handling is great, along with confront, and handling. On top of everything the car is a blast to drive! Also the Silver with Black interior really give it a rich look! Overall the car is BEAUTIFUL!
