By now, the Matrix is everywhere. But what is the Toyota Matrix? The unique body design makes it a difficult vehicle to categorize. The Matrix is technically hatchback, although it bares many similarities to a minivan with respect to shape. Toyota Designed the Matrix to offer a combination of the driving ease of a compact car with the interior room of a small crossover SUV. The Matrix is built up from the same platform as Corolla, but its tall body stretches nearly a foot above its compact counterpart. The interior is also also reconfigurable for extra cargo, thanks to convenient flat-folding rear and front passenger seats. There are four Matrix variations available for 2007. The two trim levels, base and XR, are both available with a four speed automatic or five speed manual transmission. All models are powered by the same 1.8 liter four cylinder engine, which provides 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque. Along with a clever design and convenient adjustability features, the Matrix is marked by excellent fuel economy. The EPA is 29/34 mpg for the automatic and 30/36 for the manual. All Matrix models can be built up with convenience and luxury options, but the higher priced XR offers a few additional aesthetic and performance-reltaed add-ons. Air conditioning and a CD audio system are standard, and options include larger wheels, a moon roof, and a JBL audio upgrade with a CD changer.

Automatic headlight system-is or is not the light sensor supposed to turn the headlights on at night? If so, what setting should the stalk switch be set at? I live in a city, and I have found myself driving at night without headlights (!), but the manual says absolutely NOTHING about the automatic headlight system. Either the sensor is non-functional, or, equally likely, I have the stalk switch set wrong.
My 2007 Toyota Matrix was running fine, no signs of any issues. I parked, went into store and when I started the car to leave it wouldn’t shift out of park. None of my interior accessories worked including the windshield wipers. Nothing on instrument panel works. My battery drains when driving and my tranny won’t shift into third gear. The Toyota Dealership diagnostic resulted in code: P0500, Vehicle Speed Sensor. But Toyota stared my internal junction box was bad but all relays and fuses tested good. By passing the junction box with a current resulted in all my accessories working. All under the hood fuse box relays and fuses tested good and work properly. I replaced battery, altinator, and speed sensor. My car still in same condition as the day I returned from store and started it. No mechanic can figure out what’s wrong
I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix, with approx. 115,000km on it. This past fall I had it in to the dealer to have oil and filter changed, and winter tires put on. They also informed me that there was an ECM recall and changed the ECM free of charge. Since the ECM change I have noticed a shaky/rough feeling in the steering wheel at highway speeds, which feels like it is coming from the engine. At first it was only around 115km/h+, now it is down to 100km/h+ or so. I called the dealer yesterday and service dept. said this is likely due to a dirty throttle body, because the new ECM is calibrated to require more air than the old ECM. Does that make sense? He also suggested trying cleaning the fuel injectors and changing the engine air filter. Of course they wanted me to pay for all this, despite the fact that I had no such problem before they changed the ECM. Or, is it possible this shaky/rough steering at hwy speeds could just be my winter tires? They are only on their 2nd season (mounted on basic steel rims from Canadian Tire) - so I can't imagine they are so worn or unbalanced as to cause this...? Any thoughts welcome. I drove them last winter (2010/2011) and had no such problems.
