Replaced the cap and the dealership checked the compression in the cylinders all ok. Truck does not overheat. Any suggestions? 320K miles

The 2006 Toyota Tundra continues to impress potential Ford and Chevy converts. Continuing on its "smaller full-size pickup" theme, the Tundra still comes standard with a 4.0-liter V6, with an optional 4.7-liter V8. Few changes were made to the 2006 model in anticipation of a complete redesign for 2007. There are twenty variations available for 2006, as the Tundra exemplifies Toyota's pursuit to build a truck for everyone. Three cab sizes are offered, and available trims include base, SR5, Limited, and a special Darrell Waltrip Edition. The base engine remains the 4.0-liter DOHC V6 rated at 236 horsepower and 266 lb/ft of torque. The higher-end is a 4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 rated at 271 horsepower and 313 lb/ft of torque.

This was the last model year before the Tundra grew in size. The 2007 and up are too big for my liking. The 4.7 V8 is a terrific motor. However it is an INTERFERENCE motor and the timing belt needs to be changed every 70,000 miles or so. If there are no service records or proof of the last timing belt/water pump replacement, then youll have to factor in the cost of installing a new timing belt and water pump into the selling price. Also Toyota wasnt as liberal with changing out the frames with the Tundras as they were with the Tacomas. In searching for a 2000 to 2006 Tundra (or any truck for that matter), consider the frame and timing belt/water pump to be your #1 concern.Jun 14, 2020

I've owned another Toyota before, a 1998 extracab tacoma v6 and this Tundra makes me feel right at home. It's not so much bigger, sounds great, drives great, is smooth and comfortable. I did a lot of research before getting this model Tundra. Being the last year of this production run they pretty much did everything right. Even the 4.7L motor got a few tweaks to squeeze out a few more ponies.
This is a typical Toyota product. It's built like a tank, everything works. There really aren't too many surprises.
It would be nice if there was more storage under/behind the rear seats. Even though the cab is spacious there really isn't much room for jumper cables, tools, etc.
Unlike its US counterparts the bed rails aren't solid. They're a crimped/welded line with a bunch of holes. Plastic covers snap in place to give the appearance of flat rails but they're not very solid. I added a roll-n-lock cover and it requires putting a bunch of spacers under the rails. Even with the spacers it doesn't work quite right since the plastic has a certain amount of play.
The rolling rear window is kind of handy for cool days. Opening it a few inches and then cracking the front windows sets up a wind tunnel effect in the cab. Word of warning though the wind rushes from back to front so if you have any dust/debris in the bed it comes whipping in that back window.
This is my favorite vehicle but it just doesn't quite match my needs at the moment. I bought a pickup because I thought I needed to haul stuff when I bought a house. I did haul a bunch of mulch, lumber, etc. However, I do a lot of camping and other outdoor activities. Having dry and secure storage rather than an open bed is more important so I'm looking for a late model 4runner instead.

My Tundra is probably the best Truck I have owned. I have over 154,000 miles on it already and no problems yet. You cannot beat the reliability of Toyota vehicles - Don't listen to the media and the witch hunts of Toyota - they are one of the best built cars on the road. The interior space in this model year is good - I spend allot of time in this vehicle and like to drive it. The fuel mileage on my tundra is about 16 mpg - mixed driving - have had 19 mpg best and if all in town driving around 15 mpg. Not bad for a 4X4 that always has stuff in the bed to weight it down. I liked my Tundra but had buyers remorse a week after I bought it. 0% interest inticed me into trading my 4Runner and after a week, I regreted trading. Transmission slipping
My 2006 Tundra has a slipping problem in 1st and second gear but once it kicks in past third its fine.. I never had this problem until one time I needed a jump start and someone hooked up / the jumper cables in reverse which fried a bunch of electrical diodes through out the trucks electrical system , which I had Toyota Service department fix.. But ever since then my trucks transmission started to behave strangely. It works just like new, completely normal, if I remove the battery cables for 10 mins. and this seems to reset the transmission.. It will at that point run perfectly normal for a 1 or 2 hundred miles , and then begins slightly slipping during take off between 1st and 2nd gears and progressivly gets worse until I remove the battery cables and reset the tranny again, and then it works fine again for a couple hundred more miles.. Anyone have any idea what this problem is ? Is it electrical . or the tranny itself?
