The Lancer sedan receives a series of notable updates for the 2006 model year. Changes for this current year include a revised front fascia, higher-quality seat fabrics, and daytime running lights.
Four Lancer trims are offered for 2006. The ES, O-Z Rally, and Ralliart styles return, and Mitsubishi will add a new SE later in the year. The SE is slotted between the ES and O-Z, and it adds several convenience and appearance items to the ES's feature list. The ES receives redesigned wheel covers and a rear stabilizer bar, and side-impact airbags are now standard on the Ralliart. ABS is a new option for the ES and O-Z Rally.
The ES, SE, and O-Z Rally are all powered by Mitsubishi's 2.0-liter inline four, making 120 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. This power plant can be mated to a five-speed manual or an optional four-speed automatic. The Ralliart gets a 2.4-liter inline four, which delivers 162 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The same transmission options apply. Fuel economy for the 2.4 is estimated at 23/29 mpg with the manual and 22/28 mpg with the automatic. The 2.0-liter engine will see mixed-driving averages in the high 20s.
The Lancer is a class leader in the interior space, standard features, and ride quality departments. Both engines are considerably refined, but loud enough to accent the sporting intentions of the car. Road and wind noise are aptly muted, according to reviewers. The Ralliart is the best choice for handling and acceleration, and the standard ABS improves braking feel.
Consumers have noted that the Lancer's interior is well-designed, with thoughtfully placed and easy-to-use controls. The overall interior ambiance suffers from an abundance of plastic, but seating comfort and positioning make for an enjoyable drive.

Acceleration is strong for a n/a engine. Brakes work well, so does the e-brake :D. Handles well with some understeer, to be expected from FWD. No repairs needed yet. Good looking exterior, and comfortable interior, but by no means luxurious. Gets good fuel mileage, a tank will go about 400 km give or take, depending on how its driven, and only takes 45 bucks to fill on high octane. Its fun to drive, recommended if you are looking for a sporty, economical, relialbe 4 door.Oct 21, 2010

performance - fun to drive handles well with the right tires braking is good acceleration is great mine is manual so it is all in the way you drive and how hard you can push it
build quality ok mine needed an trans when i bought it my sycronizers were screwed up
apperance sporty but interior could do better
cost of ownership not that much good gas milage

performance is neck snapping if not careful, fun car to drive! the 5 speed is especially fun to drive as its my first stick shift i ve owned. I m acctually going to modify the air filter and put a cold air filter on along with a custom catback to help the engine get better air flow and better hp like around 50 gain. everything on the car is well maintained and runs like a dream. plus the cost is only 10 grand for a nice car.Oct 08, 2009

Although this car is front wheel drive there are some options out there to make those front wheels deadly to drive. Not to many companies out there make modifications for it. This car is a middle ground between the evolution and the base lancer. A little higher prices but can be talked down.Aug 30, 2009

Cost of ownership is good if you dont have a lead foot like me.

Nice economic car but let down by the really annoying CVT gearbox which is economic but really annoying when trying to accelerate, also not that good when it comes to stability, the build quality appears to be good but when living with it you know it won't last that long.Aug 15, 2009

Extremely usable power from low RPM all the way through the cam lobe switch at 3500rpm and up to redline. Gear ratios are perfect, though highway cruising speeds see fairly high RPM in top gear. Steering feel is amazing, the clutch and shifter top notch. Great interior, four doors and 60/40 split rear seat are handy. It's actually a 2008 Ralliart ....
I love it...fast, aerodynamic, stable.
It has a great performance, I love the desing, the spoilers and the hood.
It has beaten the heck out of sentras and hondas.
I think its one of the best cars I've ever drove

I have had a couple Lancers and for a car under $20,000 it is one of the most solid vehicles I have ever owned or driven and it should be with 10 years of warranty! It's not the fastest car out there however, I LOVE driving it. It's a 4 door sedan that you can have tons of fun in!Nov 10, 2008

Just bought in Aug '08, doing up slowly, so far so good for an 1 yr old car.
Performance - Acceleration is remarkably surprising. Braking is just moderate and handling wise the car is dumb if you do not install coilovers
Apperance - The car looks great, the interior is simple and sleek.
Fuel consumption- around 12km/L , not that impressive compared to other japanese models.

The torque of the car is great on any gear, also it is amazing turning at high speed.
The looks is very unique and the sound system is not bad...

I bought this car after checking the competition (over and over) All cars have highs and lows but price was right and it came well loaded. This car is versatile with 4 doors and large trunk. It also caters to the compact sports car owner. It has euro inspired tail lights, it handles like a lowered car yet the ride is bearable. The torque out put of the engine is very impressive @ lower speeds (compared to many imports that may have more horsepower but only useable higher RPM's.) This car is really fun to drive. It has 163hp and same for torque. The gearing is low it really throws you back in 1st/2nd and I rarely take it out of 3rd in the city because @ 50Km's it still takes off. It has a small gas tank and the most I get is 480km's per tank. More like 280km's in the city with a moderate lead foot. I put some low profile tires and rims on mine and it makes it a handfull on uneven roads. This car is relatively easy to maintain and has caused little reason for concern. I've driven the 08' generation and the new Lancer is better equipped (GT) and it's a great looking car but the engine lacks power and sounds tinny. It's a Hyundai,Mitsu,Daimler -Chrysler venture.... chassis and all. I haven't driven the new Evo nor the new Ralliart that's to come but the Price jumps. I prefer the old ralliart that is fun to drive over the similarly priced "bluetooth ready,heated seat,stereo with hard drive, blah blah blah, 08' Lancer". (none were built for 07')Aug 21, 2008

The car is simple, not terribly much to look at inside and sportyish styling out, however my 19" wheels, low profile tires, and bright red finish also added to the sportyness. The car is great for the money, it handles exceptionally well with the OZ package and the 19' Kazera wheels make it a beast on on-ramps. The ride is stiff and somewhat harsh with the low profile Yokohamas but that makes the car handle much better. The manual transmission is slick and the steering is responsive. The Interior is rather conservative, however i was impressed to see a padded dashboard top. The engine is adequate though it seems to run out of steam at the higher RPM. For the price, at the time it was well equiped and cheap. Good reliable car with no problems and has power everything. Downside is not even a month after buying it, the 2008 Lancer models were available and those are a much better deal. Way more options and standard features, overall look is nicer and more agressive, bigger, better fuel economy, bigger engine...overall the 2008's are better.
