The 2006 Navigator was good to go with the new 5.4-liter, 300-horsepower V8 and six-speed automatic transmission it had received for the previous model year. Since it also got a bit of a facelift for 2005, with updates to the fascia, wheels, and running boards, there wasn't much that needed attention for '06.
The standard-features list of course remained just as impressive, giving the Navigator owner everything from a rear parking aid and a leather-wrapped steering wheel to a trip computer and a 9-speaker Audiophile stereo. Every '06 Navigator also came with two rows of leather seating with a vinyl-upholstered third-row seat, power lumbar support in front, burled walnut accents, and automatic climate control. Its power-folding side mirrors were done in body color and featured helpful approach lighting as well as integrated turn-signal bulbs.
The slate of safety features was full, with standard AdvanceTrac stability and traction control, plus side-door beams and a canopy of airbags (dual-stage in front) with rollover sensors. Safety and ride are improved by a load-leveling independent suspension. In the NHTSA's frontal crash testing the Navigator earned a full 5 stars.
The second row was available as the standard pair of captain's chairs sharing a center console, but buyers could substitute a split-folding bench seat to accommodate an additional passenger and increase the possibilities for cargo-carrying. Passengers in the second row get their own audio controls with headset jacks, plus four cup holders; the third-row has power venting windows and two cup holders. The seating set-up is in theater style, affording a better view of things from the back.
The 2006 Navigator came in two trim levels, Luxury and Ultimate, each available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Options available on both trims were a sunroof, gas-discharged high-intensity headlamps, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, an upgraded stereo in conjunction with a DVD navigation system, a monochrome appearance package, and a trailer/tow package, as well as the power-retractable running boards. Additional options, including an Elite Package that grouped some of the amenities just mentioned, were available on the Ultimate.
Navigator owners who've submitted online reviews more or less rave about their SUV choice, although they kvetch about the poor gas mileage (13 city and 16 highway) they knew ahead of time they were going to get. Opinions on the interior run from mostly praise for the beauty and luxury afforded by the real wood and satin-nickel touches to a bit of criticism concerning the amount of plastic.

I had only one problem with my vehicle and that was the shifting cable after my wife usually wasted coffee all the time, The vehicles performance is excellent and I have over 200,000 miles on it, all highway. I love my Lincoln Navigator. No significant issues, and all original parts except normal wear and tear. I plan on trading it in for a newer model with all the latest bells and whistles.Dec 14, 2022

I am very please with my Navigator. Family road trips are a pleasure with this vehicle. I have added aftermarket bluetooth to make this SUV even better. Voice command, navigation and rear DVD system still work very well on a 9 year old car.Mar 28, 2015

For an SUV made in 2006, I'm impressed with the options this truck has. Touch screen nav and radio, remote start, voice activated audio and nav controls, dual zone climate control, steering wheel mounted audio and climate controls, heated and air conditioned seats, power folding mirrors, power extending running boards, power adjustable pedals, power lift gate, power sunroof, power third row folding seats, and HID headlights. It has a dvd/aux entertainment system with wireless headphones and full rear climate and audio controls for the back passengers. Once upon a time this truck cost $55,000 and 7 years later it still looks, feels, and drives that way. That being said, the power running boards will rot under the plastic. Take precautionary steps and spray them with a rust preventing paint etc. or have them replaced entirely with fixed running boards. Eventually your air suspension will go, expensive to fix. Leaf spring kits are available to replace the air suspension, but I haven't seen many positive reviews about them.Jan 30, 2014

I've bought two of these cars and can't imagine owning anything else! She drives smooth, fast, and is completely reliable in snow, ice, wind, and rain!
I would recommend this car to families and traveling people.

it is a a 7 seater rather than a 8 seater.
it has a very good acceleration power with a v8 engine.
the interior is much better than a normal ford vehicle.

Excellent driving SUV with 9800lb hauling power. PULLS EVERYTHING. Also comfortable for the family, leather seats and don't forget as an option to get the larger DVD system screen. The 4x4 seemed better but I loved the 4x2, black with leatherOct 16, 2010

It has a GREAT ride comparable to no other vehicle. I love the way it handles like a car even though it is one of the largest SUVs on the road. It handles extremely well when having to push the stearing and acceleration and control is very stable. The only problem that I have with it, is that is drinks gas like a mother... I travel on the highway 90% of the time and I get 15.6mpg AND it only takes 91 octane fuel, which means I pay about $3 a gallon. If you do not put high octane in it, the engine knocks a little bit and acceleration is lessened. I have 85K miles on mine. Purchased it with 5K miles (demo from dealership). Has not had any major problems. Tires are VERY expensive since it comes standard with 20" wheels. I buy Perrelli which seem to last a little bit longer, but since they are low profile, you get about 25K miles out of them. NO SQUEAKS or CREAKS! It is still as tight as the day we bought it. Engine failsafe mode
In January of this year my 2006 Lincoln navigator "check advancetrac" light came on then went into engine failsafe mode out of the blue and after shutting it off in an attempt to clear the notice, it went completely dead. No crank, no start. After 5 months of sitting in 2 different shops, I was told the fuse box shorted out the computer. I had to replace both and while I was at it, the starter too. Then the converters soon after that. 3000 later, I finally get the truck running perfectly...a week later. Happens again, check advancetrac, engine failsafe mode and then no crank no start. I had it towed back to the dealership who fixed the fuse box and the starter and they finally called me today just to tell me "you need a new valve body in the tranny which is 4700." My question is, if it's the valve body, that wouldnt affect the truck starting right? I think the dealership doesnt want to own up to fixing something that they already fixed (my guess is starter related issue) and they are trying to gyp me. Any suggestions, thoughts?

Catalytic converter
Just a generic aftermarket catalytic converter question. I can't get the readiness to complete. Upstream reads good voltage, downstream mirrors upstream when in closed loop and idle. But when I drive the car at about 60mph downstream sensors show good reading. And just to reassure I have used the thermal gun on inlet and outlet of the cat and same results came back. Same temp at idle and about 90F higher after driving.
