The 2006 Chevrolet SSR is a nice car: it has retro-styling and pays homage to its roots (the 70s classic El Camino). However, Chevy for some reason thought customers would want to pay upwards of $36,600. We're talking near-Corvette dollars for a car on a frame based on the Chevy TrailBlazer.
Admittedly, the engine is more 'Vette than 'Blazer. It has a 6.0-liter V8 rated at 395 horsepower for a 4-speed automatic and at 400 horsepower for a 6-speed manual.
The SSR raised a lot of interest as a convertible version of a car-truck. Did you get that? Unfortunately for Chevrolet, most consumers didn't either.

I have a 2006 SSR & love it. I sold a 2001 Mercedes 500 SL & a 1995 Corvette & kept my SSR it rides great, carves a corner like a steak knife & runs like a bat out of hell & is the coolest vehicle I have ever owned. It is so fun to drive this thing top up or top down its a blast. My wife & I have taken it on several long vacations & enjoy it more every trip,Plus we have enough room in the bed to haul all the luggage or souvenirs we want. We hated taking the Corvette or the Mercedes on vacations because of the limited space in the back. The corvette had room for a duffel bag & 2 small suit cases . The Mercedes had a little more room but still no room if you wanted to take a suit bag or dresss The SSR has room for a Suit/Dress bag 2 duffell bags 2 suit cases a couple of folding chairs Plus a hail protector that covers the SSR if you arr caught in a hail storm. 2004 with 305 HP. Nice rumble and plenty of power, though the 05 & 06 have the bigger HP & that would be nice. Not a quiet ride, but a very fun car to drive and it gets lots of looks & compliments. Fact that it is a hard-top convertible is the coolest part other than the retro looks. Getting parts after accidents is not easily done. Just a fun car.Jul 18, 2023

Fantastic looking and totally awesome and different. Only convertible hard top truck ever built. Only thing to know, this is not a work truck or for towing. This SSR is just for excitement, fun and showing off, crowds gather where ever you go to look at it or ask questions. Put the top down and go cruising. ENJOY.May 20, 2021

Basically this would have to be one of the newest designs for a car / truck. Its a great vehicle to have if you want more cargo space but less family traveling time together. Power is pretty decent, but I wouldn't just go towing around big stuff just yet, so be sure to check on the rating. Looks, decent.. not to shabby, not to girly either so if I owned one, it wouldn't bother me. There's no back seats, there's cargo space, which is why this was created but again, no back seats. Handles great, I haven't had any issues with it. I know I have this rated at 3 for a family car but really it should be less, but considering the fact that not all families require more than two people, I can't really disagree with it being decent. Price for a new one, at the time, was expensive.. if I remember they ran around 30 grand brand new.. used, I'm not so sure but since they aren't being produced anymore I would say maybe 10 grand or less for a used one.
