2005 Scion tC Preview summaryImage

The tC, introduced in 2005, represented a departure from the existing Scion models. The xA and xB were both modestly performing four-door hatchbacks, but the new tC provided Scion buyers with a more performance-focused compact car.

Aside from the styling, the tC is set apart by a comparatively potent 2.4 liter inline four engine, enhanced by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. This power plant generates 160 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque, sending the tC from 0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds and through the quarter mile in 15.7. A five-speed manual transmission is included, and highly preferred, but a four-speed automatic optional. Fuel economy for the tC is estimated at 22/29 mpg.

The tC is a hatchback, like the othe Scion models, which allows for some additional flexibility with cargo. This compact coupe actually offers a surprising 60 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. The coupe can accommodate five passengers, and the 106 inch wheelbase creates extra legroom in the rear. The tC is the most expensive Scion, but features are commensurate with the cost. Standard equipment includes a Pioneer CD/MP3 sound system, 17-inch alloy wheels, a power moon roof, a fixed glass rear sunroof, full power accessories and keyless entry. The tC is also the only Scion to offer cruise control. Safety equipment includes ABS and knee airbags.

Taller drivers found the compact tC plenty spacious, and the well-equipped interior is a common favorite feature. Some owners felt that the tC should be eligible for the same level of customization as the xB, but most expressed great satisfaction with the coupe as is. Common complaints included excessive engine noise, a rough ride and some low quality interior materials.

These scions are made and designed very well. Never had a issue with it and has never needed anything more than brakes or a oil change. I give this car 5 stars because of its reliability and the great amount of miles you can go on a single tank of gas. by far my most favorite car ever personally owned.May 12, 2015

this car was very reliable but its not meant to be able to put a car seat in the back. I've never had any issues with the vehicle. the car is very safe and gets pretty good gas mileage also.Mar 05, 2015

This is by far the best car I've owned yet. Quality, interior room (surprisingly, back seats are very spacious), performance, style and appearance are all top-notch. I had 148k without a single issue (besides rear-brake replacement), and it's unfortunate we're switching it out for a more family-friendly vehicle. Great car! Jun 23, 2014
