The 2005 Chevrolet Equinox was a brand-new midsize sport utility vehicle launched to replace the late and unlamented Tracker. Based on the Saturn Vue, the '05 Equinox is a Chevy re-engineering that features more sheet metal, a longer wheelbase, and an improved power steering system.
The longer wheelbase is key to the roomy interior of the '05 Chevy Equinox. Although there's only seating for five passengers, the headroom and legroom are generous, even by SUV standards. There's plenty of cargo space in the 2005 Equinox as well.
One of the challenges around marketing the '05 Chevrolet Equinox was its positioning within the SUV market spectrum. A bit larger than compact SUVs like the Vue (or the Honda Element or Toyota RAV4), it's on the small side when measured up against established midsized SUVs like the Nissan Pathfinder or Chevrolet's own TrailBlazer.
Still, the low sticker price and wealth of standard features drew buyers to the 2005 Chevy Equinox. Even with its somewhat less than oomphy engine (a 3.4-liter V6 with an output of 185 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque), the Equinox offers solid transportation at an affordable price. Fuel efficiency is pretty good for its class - 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway are the EPA estimates.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox appreciate its smooth ride, ample legroom, and decent gas mileage. They commonly highlight its comfortable seating and reliable performance. However, many find the lack of certain features like cruise control and Bluetooth disappointing, and some mention that road noise can be an issue. Owners also express mixed feelings about the power of the SUV, with some saying it's a bit underpowered."
Acceleration is great. Backseat is roomy for passengers. Feel safe driving it. Love the moonroof and stereo. Not good on gas mileage. Love the way it looks.
June 19, 2009I love everything about this car, except the repair bill, but that I think is partially fault to the dealership not catching these things prior to my purchase. It handles great in the snow, Gas mileage is awesome for it being an SUV and having the ability to stuff whatever I can into it is a huge plus.
October 27, 2014Great SUV for a small family. Needs more room or a 3rd row seating, would be great. great gas mileage and ride for the vehicle. would recommend it to anyone looking for a AWD small SUV. Love it on long trips.

March 8, 2014Decent gas mileage at 25 mpg. Handles like a dream. Low to the ground for great corning, you wouldn't know you're in a 4wd capable car. Fast and strong v6 coupled with a long-lasting durable 5 speed transmission. All the safety gizmos you can think of. No complaints, it's a wonderful car.
October 27, 2012This is a very smooth ride. Easy on the bumps, comfortable, and has a lot of leg room for your backseat passengers. I know quite a few people have had issues w/ this year Equinox. The only thing I've had to do to mine is regular maintenance.
January 8, 2011Overall a descent car with a good amount of cargo space for a family or hauling a few things from the store. The front seat folds down completely allowing for larger items to be transported. The heated seats are awesome and the gas mileage descent Overall the car handles well
November 15, 2012Overall the appearance is nice a few scratches on the rear side of the car. The heated seats make the front seats comfortable while the back seats have pleanty of leg room and are adjustable. The gas mileage is 20-22 in town and 23-25 highway, maintenance costs are fairly low. The car handles well in all types of weather.
November 15, 2012It's a small SUV but it's still a bit big for me but has a very smooth ride. Great in fuel on the highway and decent mileage in the city. It has great torque for getting moving. It just flies down the on ramps.
September 25, 2009We bought the Equinox used from a dealer in Ft. Worth, and it has been a good car for us. Has leather interior, DVD system, 6 disc CD changer, On-Star, XM satelite radio, and heated front seats. Its been a great addition to the family.
July 26, 2013It is missing cruise control. An no bluetooth radio
