The 2005 Chevrolet Colorado is one of the larger compact pickup trucks (or one of the smaller midsize pickups) on the U.S. market. That gives it a bit of an advantage over other compacts when it comes to hauling capacity, and a bit of an advantage over other midsized models when it comes to fuel efficiency.
Hefty cargo doesn't present a problem for the '05 Chevy Colorado: Its payload is reckoned at 1,733 pounds for regular cab models. If you choose the Crew Cab or Extended Cab versions, you'll sacrifice a bit of that hauling muscle.
There are a dizzying range of trims and configurations available for the 2005 Colorado. Buyers can choose among Standard Cab, Crew Cab, and Extended Cab and have a choice of Z71, Z85, and ZQ8 trims. Add an Xtreme package and the rear-wheel drive versus 4WD dilemma, and it turns into an Abbott and Costello routine!
One place where there isn't too much choice is under the hood. The '05 Colorado is manufactured with only two engines: a base model 2.8-liter inline-4 with 175 horsepower and 185 lb.-ft. of torque, or a 3.5-liter inline-5 offering 200 horsepower and 225 lb.-ft. of torque.

Is a really gas economic truck and would cover all your needs from Haul to even your daily driving has a awesome look, a lot of power, but I kind of not like how it drives in snow but overall I love it.Jan 21, 2015

I really like the look of the truck, the gas mileage, and the comfortable interior. One of my favorite features are the seat heaters. My biggest complaint is the lack of four-wheel drive, which is largely my fault. Overall it is a satisfactory, affordable truck. It definitely has quite a bang for the amount of bucks!Dec 14, 2013

My baby truck has hnough power for what I need to do, I'm not hauling any big trailers or anything. Picks up pretty good for a 5 cylinder. Love the look of it, especially with the offset tires on it. Rough ride, but probably because I've got added leaf springs in the back and torsion bars cranked in the front. I get about 550 kms to the tank, pretty average for most 1/4 tons as far as I'm concerned. Fun to go out and play on the trails, I can keep up pretty good with the big boys : ) Jun 14, 2012

ZQ8 Sport-factory lowered suspension package makes it drive like a car rather than a truck. Respectable power for L5 auto with use of premium gas. G80 locking rear does well in snow, no need for 4x4. Shortbed has enough room to carry 4x8 sheets. Fold down rear seat convenient for shopping.May 12, 2011

I (28 yrs old) live on a farm in Sweden and I use the truck daily. My driving habits are small gravel roads and larger country roads, in some cases in poor condition, and limited city driving.
The performance of the Colorado with the 3.5L engine gives the truck good acceleration and fair top speed. Passing cars is easy. My truck has ABS breaks and the truck halts on demand without problems on dry tarmac. The ABS breaks does the job on icy roads and stability is kept when breaking. When it comes to handling I would say it is fair upp to 100 km/h without any payload. Above that speed require an alert driver, unless you drive on an airstrip. The best handling is achived with 300 kg in the back. I noticed that the unused seatbelts rattles on passenger side on the low speed bumpy roads and the rear axle don't give much comfort there (emty truck, much better with load). The cab is fairly quiet and comfortable on larger roads. The sound from the tyres annoys me a bit in speeds above 90 km/h (tyres are threaded for tarmac).
For offroad use, this model is ideal. Push a button for low gear and the truck stops for nothing, unless you woud get the idea to drive out in a swamp. The suspension has a great traveling distance and keeps the tyres in contact all the time. It is really extreme and I have never towed the truck.
My truck is equiped with everyting but leather seats and the interior is appealing compared with Nissan, Isutzu, Mazda and Toyota trycks. The suicide doors come in handy when storing various stuff behind the driver/passenger seat. The sound system is very poor in my opinion. The stock CD-player is low quality and so are the speakers. I have to replace it all now after only 7500 km.
The exterior is very appealing with sidesteps (bars), fender extenders, roll-top and a stainless steel grille guard with extra lights. The extended fenders does work and they have kept the paint intact (7500 km) on the sides of the truck.
Gas mileage is very good concidering that the engine delivers 220 hp, it is a 4x4 Z71 and runs on gas. I get about 60 km on a tank of gas.
Regarding maintainance, change oil, filters and sparkplugs. Thats all.
The fun factor of this truck is high. It's light weight gives it good acceleration and I enjoy buring some rubber and power slides can be done in a controlled way on dry tarmac. Friends and new people I meet think that the truck looks cool and they are all impressed of acceleration (it is a truck).
I would recommend anyone to buy this model if you intend to haul light weight goods/trailors or just use it for driving to work. Feb 20, 2009

Peformance wise, it goes pretty quick for the 4 Cylinder model
The quality care used by the people from Shreveport; you can tell they put their hearts into making the truck. Its a very fun truck to drive. It handles well around corners and everything and whenever i wanna have fun, it does what i want it to do!Nov 08, 2008

It's a great truck that gets good gas mileage. For some reason mine is having a problem with squeaks right now. It can haul alot of gear, which is good for a paintballer. All In all it is not a very bad truck at all. You should get one! The Colorado is a very good truck, but it has some recalls on it.Aug 30, 2008

I love my truck, it is large enough to do the work I need to do on the farm but without the horrible gas mileage. Good performance for the newly designed Inline 5 but not as much power as a V-8, of course. Nice looking truck that I love to drive!!!!!!!!Aug 01, 2008

Overall, I like it. It's not going to fall apart on you, it has an average acceleration, pretty good braking, below average handling, standard issue horsepower (?) is sufficient. Good for trips w/ passengers b/c of extended cab. Comfortable. Bed is not compromised that much by cab.Jul 02, 2008

Sadly, I don't have my truck anymore - but I loved him!! I ordered him special from Chevy and waited impatiently FOUR MONTHS for his arrival! He was beautiful, fun to drive, and turned a LOT of heads - but he wasn't long for this world. Not my world, anyway.
From January 2005 until April 2006, he'd been in the shop about 7 to 10 times (I lost count!) and I'd actually only physically drove him for 6 months. When I placed my order with Chevrolet, I ordered a sunroof. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball, BIG TIME, and didn't include drains for the water to go somewhere when it rained. The result was a leaky sunroof and an eventual lemon law buy-back from Chevy.
I do stand behind my love for this truck, and am replacing it with the new V8 version in 2009/2010.

Hello, my truck has been burning a lot of oil, and I need advice The 2005 Chevy Colorado [14XXXX Miles] has recently had the 4th cylinder repaired [Exhaust valve had broken apart, and had 0 psi], and had oil in the intake. After having the 2 exhaust valves replaced, the intake valves ground, the head gasket replaced with all new bolts, and an oil change, it was driven for 200 miles. After checking the oil, it was low by about 3 quarts. The bottom of the engine is dry, there has been no oil pooling under the truck, and it has been burning oil. What should be my next step?
My truck is given me the P0300 code now after it was given me the P0304 code I changed the fuel pump/filter coils plugs cam and crank sensors cleaned throttle body and intake and did the injectors yesterday thats when it finally was able to run on its own without starting fluid but the code changed from P0304 to P0300 is there anything else you all would recommend I do before I start the long process of tracing a short.
My truck when idling (in like 2 mins) starts dinging and shows red oil can symbol, temperature starts to rise and says oil in panal window. When I start to move again the dinging stops and all disappears unless I stop again. My husband has checked oil and its full .so I am confused.
I'm trying to out how to put a system in my 05 crewcab colorado, without taking my back seat out and spending a fortune. Anybody know what it will take. I know i need 8"s, but where can i put the jack and everything else under the backseat, where to put the amp.
I am very confused!! A posting was removed on Monday. I had contacted the seller who contacted CarGurus, I was told. CarGurus informed me that the sale may be a scam. Now that posting is up again!!!! What's going on?
