Mitsubishi has struggled for several years to establish the Galant as a viable in the mid-size sedan market. The Galant has faced stiff competition in top sellers like the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, but most reviewers agreed that the Galant was a value-in-class leader, year after year. Shortcomings included the sedan's lack of options, compact rear seats, and underpowered engines.
Mitsubishi has completely redesigned the Galant for 2004, in an effort to takes sales away from the class leaders. The new Galant is larger and more powerful. The modle lineup has been slimmed to four trims: DE, ES, LS, and GTS. All models come standard with air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, full power accessories, keyless entry, a CD player, a digital clock and automatic-off headlights. Four-wheel disc brakes have been added to the safety features, along with daytime running lights.
There are still two Galant engine options, but both are now more powerful. The 2.4 liter inline four provides 160 horsepower and 157 pound-feet of torque. The V-6 is upgraded from a 3.0 to a 3.8 liter unit, which generates 230 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is estimated at 23/30 mpg with the four and 19/27 mpg with the V-6. Again, the only transmission option is a four-speed automatic.
The Galant continues to earn high marks for performance: ride quality, V6 acceleration, and handling. The previous V-6 models ran from 0 to 60 mph in over eight seconds, but the 3.8 liter unit speeds that time up to 6.8 seconds. The V-6 models also now have a manual shift feature with the automatic transmission. The GTS is the best bet for aggressive drivers, with its road-responsive, but non-intrusive, sport suspension system.
The new Galant is larger and the interior is noticeably more spacious. The cabin has wide open feel and the rear seat can now accommodate three adults in reasonable comfort. The seats are very comfortable, according to reviewers, and the rear seat ease of entry/exit has also improved.

I love the power, it has leather seats, I can control the radio from the steering wheel. Its great!!

I love how when you stomp the gas it gets it gone!!!The handling could be a little better when you take off fast it has bad torque steer!!O and i love the leather seats and sun roof they are a must have for me!!Nov 18, 2009

Very impressive with the new MIVEC system with an in-line 4 engines. It goes from 0 to 60K in second. The one I was driving was a base model, so no luxury items was found on this car. But for that price, I prefer an import rather than U.S. made.Aug 20, 2008

Overall car is good just dont like the loud engine noise when accelerating, sound like a muscle car. Gas milage is around 30 mixed driving. Very solid doesnt feel like your in a foil box. With that said its kinda heavy for the 4 cyl engine, but does move quickly when you need it to... The back window could have more visibility. This could be fixed by lowering the angle of the back end period. Wish it had a rear wiper. Ive gotten many compliments on the car looks wise. The interior how ever has funky plastics; kinda heavy and rubbery. Makes for a very solid look but not pretty.

This car was re-designed all the way for the year 2004. Although trims remain the same, the only changes this year were the engines. The I-4 engine, remains in the same displacement, but now it has the added feature of MIVEC, which is a device that controls the opening and closing of the valves, resulting in better fuel economy, reduced emmisions, more horsepower and torque. The old V6 has increased in size from a 3.0L to a 3.8L liter, of course, gaining more horsepower. The dimensions of this car are greater than those of its sibling as evidenced by the enormous trunk and the space in both the front and the back seats. However, I find it confusing that there is a display with the radio station and the temperature of the a/c just in front, like the Toyota Echo and the Yaris. The gauges are lit with a blue color, yet they seem to be small and hard to read sometimes. The engine seems to have a hard time moving this heavy car, yet it has better acceleration than its american mechanical twins. What really annoys me about this car is the transmission as it should have a 5-speed automatic and the option of having a manual transmission and the lack of rear visibility since the car seems to be higher at the rear than at the front. This V6 auto easily beats an Accord or Camry, hands down. It looks better, peforms better

Switching problem from heat to air
My heater and air conditioner both work just fine, but I can't get it to switch from one to the other when I want it to. I had to use the heater a few days ago because my window kept fogging up. Now, I can't get it to switch back to air. Sometimes, if I turn the car off then back on, it will switch, but I want to switch when I want to switch it, not when the car "feels" like it. What do I need to buy to fix this problem?

My car won't start what does it seem to be?
I have a 04 Mitsubishi galant it started fine earlier but then I went to start It again a while after and It sounded like It was about to but it didn't I know for sure it isn't my starter Cus I hear the clicking and it sounds like the fuel pump turns on but not too sure my battery and alternator or both New just put them in about a 5 days ago along with New spark plugs and drive belt Wat could it be?

Car is not working correctly after throttle body replacement.
My idle on the mitsubishi was about 1000 rpm and after the change it jacked up to 2100 rpm. Also when in drive the car shakes like crazy but goes down to 1000 rpm. When driving i can only go up to 20 mph and that is when i push the accelerator all the way down. Lastly the accelerator does not work when going in reverse. I tried resetting it by letting it sit without battery power for 30 mins and turning it on again. Please help

2004 Mitsubishi Galant
2004 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4L lost tension, replaced the belt and tensioner, nothing broken or loose but belt is still loose. I am at my wits end. I have been working on cars for 30 years and cannot figure this out. Routing is exactly as it should be and belt is the correct belt.
