Designated as a larger successor to the Sonoma, the Canyon debuted as GMC's new midsize pickup truck in 2004. Replete with 24 trims and a choice between a 2.8 L, 175 hp I4 engine or a 3.5 L, 220 hp I5 model, the Canyon gave consumers the opportunity to find the right specs based on their personal preferences. This pickup also offers a choice between 4 speed automatic and 5 speed manual transmission, depending on the trim.
For gas mileage, expect to get 19 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. Standard Cab trims typically have 2 doors and seat 3 while Extended and Crew Cab trims have 4 doors and seat 5-6. Towing capacity ranges from around 2000 lbs. to 4000 lbs. As for performance, the 2004 GMC Canyon can go from 0-60 mph in almost 10 seconds.
Reviewers have come to the general consensus that the 2004 GMC Canyon looks a bit like a 'good-field, no-hit' baseball player. With regard to basic tasks and safety features, the Canyon does its job well. But with the sexier specs like towing capacity and horsepower, this domestic pickup just doesn't measure up. Pick up the 2004 GMC Canyon if you want the line's general features at the lowest price.

Doesn't really hold much Of a re-sale value for a small to a mid-size truck when it comes to high mileage. They are sure plentiful when looking for one within a two hundred mile radius

Build Quality is great.
consider it a hummer with a truck body.
Fun little truck to drive and play around in.

Great fuel economy. Great performance. Great performance off road. Excellent comfort. Great daily driver. This truck does everything, and it has very low cost of ownership. It is a very fun vehicle to drive, and I enjoy driving this truck on long trips. It may because it has every option possible, though. :)Nov 14, 2009

Good power, does well off-road. However have had several electrical,alignment,drive train issues that GM doesn't stand behind( Even though thousands of customers have had the same issues that we experienced. Probably won't buy another GM product. Makes the Japanese look exceptional.Nov 04, 2009

Performance- Good I think for a 5 cylinder Engine i've added a GMPP 3 inch exhaust system, Goodyear wrangler tires, and a K&N Air Induction Kit.
Build Quality- No complaints really for how much I paid for it. I mean its no ferrari but you get what you pay for. No major repairs have had too be done.
Appearance- obviously i've added some things and I always get compliments on how this truck looks. Interior is kinda plain but looks good in my opinion.
Gas Mileage- Good but i dont give much attention too gas mileage
Fun Factor- Great I just wish there was a monster V-8 option available when i bought this truck and it seems too drive pretty well in winter for being a rear wheel drive truck but i add weight in the truck bed and of course it doesn't hurt i put my good Goodyear MT's on every winter!!!!! ;) Oct 17, 2009

I've had this truck for five years and haven't had much in the way of problems, really the only one so far is that recently the lights have all started to burn out on me. Overall it's be a good truck.May 26, 2009

anyone have problems with thier 2004 4x4 GMC canyon pick up, 45 days I have spent 2500.00
I have received two letters talking about valve seats and the other about the gas cap being defective has anyone had any of these problems occur on their 2004 canyon, as stated I have just spent 2500.00 on vehicle repairs and I am just beside myself
