The stylishly sleek coupes are no longer in the lineup for the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. Now it only comes in a more family-oriented 4-door sedan, as a base SE, GT, or supercharged GTP. More full-sized than its mid-sized classification, the Grand Prix always aimed to blend heavily-loaded luxury features with a dash of exciting driving performance.
Engines remain the same for each trim. A 3.1-liter, 175-hp V6 powers the SE, and a 3.8-liter, 200-hp V6 propels the GT. A supercharged 240-hp version of the 3.8 sits in the sportier GTP. All are matched with a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, with normal and performance modes. Additional changes to the 2003 Grand Prix include more across-the-line standard features, such as a CD player, overhead console, backseat reading lights, and the trunk pass-through. A Limited Edition Package for the GT and GTP again gives them a new spoiler, badging, white gauges, blue foglights, and seats with leather inserts to keep you from moving around when chasing curves.
Performance-wise, 2003 Grand Prix owners seem very happy. They love the engine power, great pick-up, easy cruising capability, and the stability and confidence of the wide track handling. The Grand Prix looks and feels sporty enough for parents who don't want to entirely sacrifice fun for responsibility. Seating room is spacious and gas mileage decent. The heads-up display remains a favorite feature. A sloping roofline limits rear headroom, say owners, the thinly padded seats are not comfortable for long trips. Once again, a shoddy-looking plastic interior suffers from rattling and is not durable. Some drivers report a noisy ride.

Car won’t start it will turn over but will not run changed fuel pump relays camshaft crank shaft position sensor it has gas in it but no power to the fuel pump.May 20, 2022

I love cruising around in my car and the feel of it just seems right to me. It makes me happy and relieves a lot of stress when I start it up and let it idle. Taking it out on the road is a beneficial experience I cherish on a daily basis. No negative comments to really say about it. She runs great.Apr 28, 2015

Wish the back seat had a little more room. Good for kids but a bit tight for adults. Also, head room is a bit short if your a 6' plus person. 3.8 motor is one of the best motors on the market for reliability, power and fuel efficiency. Aug 04, 2014

This car has been a great car. It is a 4 door, so has good access for kids in the back seat, it gets good gas mileage for a 4 door vehicle and still has plenty of power if you need it. Even though it is a 4 door car it still is sporty looking.May 08, 2014

Great car. Looks good and with the supercharged 3.8 has good performance yet remains reasonably economical for a big car. Overall quality is good and apart from the usual problems with GMs of this era (wheel bearings, axle shafts, fuel pump, intake manifold gaskets and low gloss paint) and has been a great and reliable car.May 21, 2012

They look good as a family sedan and offer a roomy interior but over all I recommend that you steer clear of this car from 1998 to at least 2003 as they have a bad reputation for poor quality and this is not just my opinion I have heard other people parts clerks and previous owners alike.
The problem area's that I had with my car were: the wipers stopped in the middle of the wind shield and I spent $350.00 to fix the problem and they still didn't work properly. The circuit board blew for the fan control just after I bought the car and went again a year later.
The ABS tried to kill me when the roads were slippery (the break peddle felt like there was a brick under it when the ABS came on).
When there was a heavy rain and the car was parked in my drive way water would find its way some where around the fire wall/wind shield and leave a deep puddle on the passenger floor in the front seat. This car was also plagued with all kinds of electrical issues. Apr 19, 2012

Love the power and handling. Have had to replace bearings three times. GM quality in bearings for this and similar models are poor. Heated seat is fantastic. Seating positions to anywhere which makes traveling very comfortable. Large trunk and roomy rear seats add to the overall great family car design. Mar 05, 2012

good over all family car, lots of room, power is average, good braking, excellent gas milage,excellent handling (wide track suspension) low cost maintenance, very fun to drive would reccomend too a small family of 5 or less ,lots of trunk room(holds 4 sets of golf clubs with ease.May 29, 2010

overall i really like this car it handles well and gets pretty good gas mileage. (26mpg hwy-23mpgcty) im sure i would love this car if i had a gt or gtp with more options on it. the only thing i dont like is that is has the 3100 instead of the 3800. which is offered in tyhe other models. and i also think it alows a bit much noise in from the outside. Drives fast!!! This car is great if you have a family. There is lots of room in the back seat. You can store alot in the very large trunk. This Grand Prix drives nice, it has not need to get any major repairs.Aug 09, 2009

I bought this car used with 20K on it in 04. I now (July 09) have 159K on it.Gas miliage has been consistaint adverage of 27-29mpg. My SO had a Chrysler 300m and says it handles great and has great acceleration...I agree! Besides it looks sporty for a 4dr. So far all I have done is regular maintenance and one new battery. Engine still sound so hopfully will get another 159K out of it.Love my car!

This car is a big peice of crap.
The build quality is true to GM's moto as of late, lets see what else we can cheapen out on to cut costs and seeing as it is an 03 and the last year of a 7 year run you would think it would be perfect. I spent 500.00 alone on the wipers last year and they still don't work. My fan dose not come on at all and I have lost the last control setting again on the circut board and I just had it fixed two years ago. It leaks when it rains and I am having electrical isues and I won't even get into it about my ABS breaks. This car handles nice and is a sporty looking family sedan as well as the 3.8 liter V6 has caused me no problems it is not something I would recomend to anybody.Jun 11, 2009

Yes, I like the way it looks, but some things about it seem chinsey. I came from a Chrysler New Yorker which is solid all the way through so this seems like a less well build car. But it's fun and does the job. May 24, 2009

Pros: Love the technology incorporated into my GP. Head-Up Display, Auto Dimming Mirror, Monitored Traction Control, On Board trip Computer, etc...
Cons: The window/lock control on the driver's door is constantly shifting. The tranny kicks at times, took it to the shop they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I even has the systemflushed and serviced. IDC I love my carMar 16, 2009

Great family car to own, even with out a family. With my 3.1 liter V6, I get decent acceleration, great gas millage (34-35 miles per gallon highway), the brakes are easy to modulate and have plenty of stopping power, and the car handles great out of the box. Build quality is a bit off, it got better in 2004,but I can't complain, I love the chunky buttons and controls. Has a few minor rattles in the interior, but nothing the stereo can't hide. I love the aggresive styling of the car, and the car is a hoot to drive. Parts can be a bit pricey for it, but well worth it I think.Feb 02, 2009

Bought the car used with 120,000 on the clock, now it has 138,000, only had to change the oil and the plugs. Runs great hasn't missed a beat in the year I've owned it. Fantastic on the freeway, will cruise all day at 75 and deliver 24mpg, interior is a little dated with the 90's styling but otherwise okay, power windows don't always work but it seems everyone i know that owns a pontiac has the same problems. I bought the car originally because it had such a high star crash rating. Great care would recommend to anybody buying one. Next time though I will look at the 3.8 GTP. Headlights could be brighter, sometimes its hard to see in the dark, I am upgrading my bulbs to the bright blue kind. Tires can be expensive but i found some for only $75 a pieceJan 29, 2009

Great power to weight ratio, pretty good at the gas pump.
Comfortable with all amenities within reach, not too noisy in the cabin and the regular maintenance is not as expensive as most vehicles 5 years off the lot. No major repairs yet and the only thing I had replaced was the brake pads so farJan 05, 2009

This is my daily driver car. It has 77k on it and havent had any problems. Its fully loaded without HUD and DIC. I like GM's 3800 cars which is why I bought it. It is a very smooth ride and quiet. The leather heated seats are great in the winter as is the sunroof for summer. It has plenty of room as well as great hwy MPG of 32 on average while looking sexySep 07, 2008

2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. Headlights.
2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. Had our first hard freeze with snow last night. After scraping got in and started it, the headlights came on despite the switch being in the off position. While driving tried turning swithc on and off but the headlights would not turn off. Once parked and vehicle off they seemed to be off. Could the temperature caused this or is it a bigger problem? Just bought the car 10/22/23.

Back Up lights not working
My Backup lights on my Pontiac Grand Prix GT 2003 are not working. Fuses are fine, as are the bulbs. The trunk release does work. What could be causing this? I've had problems with electrical at the shifter, could this be involved again? Thanks! I do have a voltmeter but I'm not sure where to start.
