One of the best trucks Toyota has ever built! These Trucks have extremely low depreciation and can last forever in dryer geographic locations. Nov 19, 2022

2002 Tacoma Prerunner rwd with 230k miles. Very good truck for the money considering its age and mileage. Frame rust is a big issue with these model years so it is important to check out the frame for exterior and warp spots in the frame which indicates internal frame rust (big red flag). I am loving driving this truck so far.May 02, 2021

Very safe truck, that is why I handed it down to my daughter for back and forth from high school and then onto my son. Serves us well when projects around the house are upon us, ... mulch, lumber hauling, etc. I did purchase a bed extender, probably a good investment if you are looking at a short bed truck!
Update 15 Sep 2015
Installed a new head unit (Pioneer FH-X720BT) and had no issues at all. Last time I replaced a head unit was in 1984, so don't fret if you haven't done one in a while or have never done an install, quite easy! Also replaced all four factory speakers with some Boss (didn't need to get carried away with an '02 Tacoma) speakers. Sounds great, my son loves the new features it provides, bluetooth, mixtrax, compatible with his iPhone, ... all's good, for now!!!! Any questions for me regarding install, feel free to email me through cargurus!Feb 02, 2015

Loved this truck but its not what I thought, this truck is made for someone who wants to have fun, go off roading, get it muddy, and make it look cool. It's easy to ride but a bumpy and fun ride!Feb 20, 2013

I recommend Toyota Tacoma for anyone who wants a truck for hauling things around, but doesn't need a ton of hauling power. They look amazing, and handle really well. It's hard to wrong when you go with Toyota. I highly recommend it! Nov 13, 2012

Bought my Tacoma brand new in 2002, it has over 200,000 miles on it but you could never tell it. It still looks fantastic and handles great. Very durable. You can guarantee that my next truck will be another Toyota Tacoma !Sep 10, 2012

I smile each time i look at it... I dont do much off-road, I just drive to work and back, so i am thinking I will sell to someone who does what this truck was built to do... GO... I found this truck and even the mechanics came out and told me it was the best looking truck for its age, that they had ever worked on or saw...... I had 5 1987 Toyota 4x4's so i kind of know what I am doing,,,,,,Sep 02, 2012

Bought this truck specifically because I needed a useful daily that I can use for
picking up parts and hauling crap around without the need for a full-size truck.
It's
got a 2.7L 4 cyl and does just fine for it's size. It's no street racer then again
that's not what it's intended for. It's a Prerunner so it's not 4wd which kind of
sucks, but it's jacked up like a 4wd so it gives it a nice look. I like how it looks,
it's a
clean design, needs a little TLC but other than that she's not bad. It's already
paid
for itself hauling work stuff and a full rear subframe from another car.Oct 26, 2011

Truck has decent acceleration with some improvement when power ecu is on handindling is good, has limited traction the rear tires break loose very easily. Brakes are lacking would prefer discs in the back as well. Styling is good interior space is good except for long distance driving. Gas mileage could be a little better for the size of the truck and motor. The truck is extremely fun to drive. Jan 07, 2011

its a 3.4L v6 4x4 with a supercharger and additional injector. its a blast to drive on and off the road. its a little expensive to drive around because i have to use premium gas but i dont care. i also have a sound system and magnaflow exaust so its sounds good inside and out. Sep 27, 2010

0-60 in a blistering 8.5ish seconds, brakes pretty good. I can drift in it, and it wont flip, at least not immediately. Its a toyota, not a chevy, it'll last beyond 150,000miles. 15 mpg city, 20 highway. Fun drive, great offroad.Mar 04, 2010

Has held up well for over 150k miles with some minor repairs. Paint is a little pealy on the bumper but overall in good shape. This truck has been ridden hard and used for moving many items. The appearance is very average for a pick up truck (nothing fancy). I like the black color for this little truck. The cab is not very roomy but adequate for 2 passengers. It has held up well for it's 8 years through very severe Wisconsin winters. Has been left parked outdoors for it's whole life and has always started like a champ.Sep 26, 2009

I bought my truck used and started modifying it right away. It took any mods with little adjustment to any of the stock parts. It handles and performs well. I added a cargo bar across the bed above the rear wheels to help with a small traction issue in wet weather until I can install a locking rear differential.Aug 30, 2009

This is an awesome truck. It will go anywhere you want it to go. It doesn't have a super lot of power but it gets the job done. Very well built truck with no problems. It looks good and tough and rides very well. It is a very fun truck to drive but doesn't get that great of gas mileage. Overall I LOVE IT!!Aug 23, 2009

I really like my Tacoma... I'm pumped that I got the quad cab because its great to haul people around. The short box isn't so bad after all. I enjoy the four weel drive and the power is good but it not a car for fuel so I try to ease on the acceleration for the most part. Don;t want to burn fuel that muchFeb 19, 2009

None of the power windows will work and only the passenger side lock will actuate the locks. Door locks click twice when i close the drivers door. Have checked both fuse boxes and fuses related the the ECU, all check out. Check voltage coming into the Power window master switch getting 12 v.
Occasionally when I park my truck I cannot turn the key to the off position. It will stop at Acc and will not continue to Off. I then have to restart the engine and drive to a different spot where it usually works as intended. I replaced the ignition lock cylinder but that was not the answer. Thoughts?
I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner v6 with the codes P0420 and P0440. I took it to a mechanic and had both the catalysts and Bank 1 O2 sensor replaced but the codes won’t go away. The mechanic said to go to the dealer because it’s a problem with the computer not being able to communicate with the O2 sensor, and that the dealer has the right tools to fix a computer issue. I know dealers are very expensive so should I take it there or go to another mechanic for a second opinion?
