2002 Audi S8 Preview summaryImage

A full-size luxury sedan that seems very staid, yet elegant in style, and is large enough to carry five passengers comfortably and fit 18 cubic-feet of cargo in the trunk hardly seems like a likely candidate for a sports performer. But thanks to its aluminum body and suspension, the 2002 Audi S8 handles much more like a lighter, smaller car, making the most of its sports-tuned shocks, brakes, suspension, and 4.2-liter V8 engine that's been modified to hit 360-hp. New in 2002, the 5-speed Tiptronic gets a Sport mode.

A few other changes for 2002 include an improved electronic stability program with Brake Assist and an in-dash CD changer. OnStar, an updated navigation system, and a tire pressure monitor are new options in the 2002 S8. With its quattro AWD, the S8 is a great performer no matter what the road or weather throw at you. Inside, you'll be pampered by leather seats, 14-way adjustable seats, memory settings for seat position, headrest, and mirrors, dual climate control, and power sunroof. Outside, fog lights, xenon headlights with washers , and keyless entry continue the luxury.

The 2001 S8 receives high marks for its engine power and light handling on the road. It works best on the highway when you can really open it up, and though it is tuned for a firmer ride, most owners say it is very comfortable and feels like a much lighter car. They like the benefits of the lighter car-handling with the roominess and space of a full-size sedan. AWD is always a plus, and the supportive seats are comfortable. Owners also like that it's a fairly rare car on the road. Detractions include lousy gas mileage, uncomfortable city driving, lack of cupholders, and poor customer service from Audi dealers.

Live in winter climate. So love the Audi Quattro system! With good winter tires, power, handling for a big sedan, heated seats, heated door locks, Dual Climate control, Electronic Stability Control, Brembo Brakes, etc. makes this a great winter driver. Only miss on this vintage is lack of adjustable suspension. With the S being 1" lower than A8's, i find the clearance inadequate when in about 4" of snow. Solar power sunroof is cool in the summer for taking the excess heat out when parked in the sun. After 280,000miles!!, car still runs and drives like new! 4.2L V-8, 360HP + with Tune, doesn't smoke on startup and still has awesome power. Only signs of wear are the drivers inside door handle scratches from rings!Apr 18, 2014

This is one awesome car, watch the movie Ronin you will know why! It is absolute for comfort and speed without attracting too much negative attention. Can't tell from the outside whats hiding under the bonnet of this beast! RocknrollaJun 05, 2010
