2001 marked the introduction of a more powerful V8 to the Yukon XL and the Denali trim. The full-size SUV has 5.3 L and 6.0 L V8 powertrains. In addition, you can choose from 9 different trims. Later models have 13 trims due to the introduction of basic 1500 and 2500 4WD and RWD trims.
Gas mileage comes out to around 14 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. The '01 Yukon XL has 4 doors and seats 8-9 passengers, depending on which trim you choose. Max cargo capacity comes out to 132 cubic feet while max towing capacity generally ranges from 8000 to 9000 lbs., with some trims towing up to 12000 lbs.
Overall, the 2001 incarnation of the Yukon XL gets high marks for its engines and interior room. While this domestic SUV could use some stylistic refinement, the addition of the Denali makes the Yukon XL an even better buy. Pick up the 2001 model if you need something more affordable with reasonably modern features.

Transmission shifts hard. The auto ride light is on. All four lower door moldings are faded . Valve covers are leaking. Quite a big dent by the right taillight. Drivers arm rest is off. Feb 15, 2024

The leather and power everything. It has alot of towing power. Great for family trips with lots of room for everything. You feel very safe in the SUV on the road everywhere you go. People don't pull out in front of you very often. Jan 26, 2013

This truck was purchased used and has the 8.1L Vortec V8 so the towing capacity is amazing. The gas mileage however is bad, but then it's a huge heavy beast. The ride is good. Overall I am happy with the vehicle.Nov 21, 2012

This is my mother's daily driver. Now, we don't own the usual 01 Denali so its kind of hard to rate it from the normal XL. From what we own its been a great road trip, groccery getting, moving truck. Needles to say its very spacious. It has great looks even by today's standards and still turns heads when dressed up nicely. It's a big tank so its not a miata in the handling department but its not bad either. We have a 6.2L V8 in ours instead of the original 5.7L V8 but we also bout it like that so performance wise it's amazing in my opinion. The truck now is relativly cheap comparing it to when it first came out at $45,999 starting. Now they're aroun $12,000 and $15,000 with the right milage.Dec 15, 2011

After I sold my Chevy Tahoe, I didn't think I'd get a big SUV again. But
when the opportunity to purchase my boss' oldest vehicle came along, I
couldn't pass it up. I am a truck girl after all and driving a sedan just
wasn't making me happy. This truck drives extremely nice, although it
feels underpowered at times. The gas mileage is a major downside, but
you have to trade something for a V-8. All in all, I'm extremely happy

The only negative is the high gas prices! Love the vehicle!! Great for trips or around town!! Leather seats with heaters is a plus! DVD for long trips was a life saver!! There is room for everyone without compromising safety!!Sep 04, 2011

We bought this truck used and absolutely love it. It it extremely comfortable and I highly recommend the heated seats. I have never owned anything this big, but I found driving it to be very easy. I was impressed by the turn radius - it turns pretty tight for how big it is. We have not taken it off road yet. We haven't had a single problem with it and the previous owner was pretty hard on it, so that's good. I love that the 3rd row of seats both folds down and is removable. The middle seat is split with 1 side folding down to allow people to get into the 3rd row. I've found that to be a perfect spot for our dog when we have cargo in the back. I'm also impressed by the amount of room left in back when the 3rd seat/row is in use - its more space than my mini van.Jan 30, 2010

Gas guzzler! The truck is too big for what I need most of the time. Yes, I have put some big things in there, and it has been helpful once in a great while, most of the time it's just a big tank. On top of that, because it's so big, many of the repairs cost more because the parts have to be more heavy duty.Jan 08, 2010

Great Truck!! load it with almost anything , great for pulling toys and campers. Nice ride ,quiet, great for lond drives... it's the best!! even the wife likes driving it. we always take it in the summer on our holidays.
Fun Fun Fun and drive and accelerates just fine, gas , when it empty just fill it...

6L gas engine is awesome. Very nice on the highway, fairly quiet interior while very easy to pass others. Loads of room to put cargo into. I've driven a bunch of turbo diesels (auto) with compairable hp and the power of the gas is steady where the diesel theres the turbo lag and once it spools up there almost too much power, its like reving it up and droping it in neutral. Yukon Denali engine ticking
I have a 2001 Yukon Denali 6.0L and 92,101 miles on it. I have a recent ticking in the engine. Took it to a mechanic, who has never serviced our vehicle for us before and he said the ticking comes from the bottom of the oil pan area and since the lifters cannot be replaced on this engine I would need a new engine. Then I'm reading other people having ticking in their engines and others saying that lifters CAN be replaced. Who do I believe?! I'm very confused please advise and thank you!

My truck died in flight, and now will crank but won't start.
was heading to work this morning and I was coming around a turn. When I came out of the turn, I hit the gas hard, then my truck died. I tried to start it but It would crank, but wouldn't start. I checked to see if the fuel pump would prime when I turn the key to run, and it did, but when I check the fuel pressure, it showed zero, I thought maybe I was out of gas, so I put gas in it. I let it prime again and still no start. I have four codes on my obd scanner ,p0140, p0135 p0322, and p0327. Which is knock.sensor, 02 sensor and cat converter, but my cats have been hollowed out. I did just get the bully dog gt tuner. Any suggestions on what it could be?
