The 2000 Pontiac Firebird was fast approaching its final year, bringing to an end one of the last remaining holdovers from the muscle car era. As such, few changes occurred in 2002, aside from some new colors and new 17-inch wheels for the WS-6 V8. A re-engineered throttle in the 6-speed manual transmission was also new. The 2000 Firebird was offered as a 2-door coupe or convertible in either the base 3.8, 200-hp V6 or the Formula and Trans Am V8. The convertible was offered only as a base and Trans Am trim.
If you don't mind paying the extra insurance, the V8 models are the true powerhouses. The Formula and Trans Am 5.7 V8 rates 305 hp, but with the WS-6 performance package, revs up to 320 hp, hitting 0-60 in 5 seconds, making it one of the fastest Firebirds ever. The base model V6 can also be outfitted with its own performance package, which adds dual exhaust pipes and a limited-slip differential. ABS brakes and dual front airbags are standard on all 2000 Firebirds. A 5-speed manual is standard in the base, with a 4-speed auto transmission option. A 6-speed comes standard in the V8 models.
Owners love the aggressive style of the 2000 Firebird, although its dragon-like flared nostril scoops are up for debate. Mostly they love the V8 power, road-hugging grip and tight cornering of this modified street racer. Gas mileage is a nice surprise, though the V8 will go through a lot of it. Affordability, a good sound system, and nice cargo capacity are added benefits. And though it fits cargo with the fold-down rear seats, that's about all the rear is good for. Passengers find it cramped and hard to access. The rear spoiler causes several problems for drivers, including blind spots and a tendency to collect rain water, which it then dumps into the trunk when you open the hatch. Rattling, cheap plastic interior parts, low ground clearance and no traction on wet roads are big downsides.

The look of this car is beautiful. The inside is nice for a 14 year old car. There are no rattles or any problems. The t-tops and rear hatch seals don't leak, this seems to be a problem area for these types of cars. The seats are still fairly comfortable. The performance is awesome. I haven't been to the track or gotten it dynoed, but was planning on doing both.May 20, 2014

I wont lie it is a V6 so its not the fastest thing out there. But for a first running car and at around 2850 dollars it was a pretty damn good find. It handles great I got new tires and rear brakes for it in Aprill. And though it may not be fast it looks great and it has a great exhaust note from the aftermarket pipes. Oct 31, 2011

0-60 in 5 seconds for a 11 year old car isn't bad, handling for a rear wheel drive muscle car is amazing. Hasn't needed any real repairs since Ive owned it, have done mods to make it even more fun to drive. Better yet, nothing like 400 hp and still getting 30 mpg on the highway lolJan 06, 2011

Another great car, plenty of power, great handling, predictable, and sexy. T-tops are tons of fun. Tire smoking is not a problem, even with an automatic. Top speeds of 130-140 mph are no problem for this beast. LS1 is the best.Jan 05, 2010

Performance is decent for V6. Good shift timing. Build is solid though paint is fading. Power seat and windows are junk in most GMs. Interior is charcoal leather. Automatics should get a shift boot. Looks best with ground effects. Decent millage even though the LS1 is as good. Maintenence is somewhat pricey. Fun factor-HELL YEAH! TTOPS!May 11, 2009

Wiring/electrical problems and cheap plastic crap for interior... thanks GM.... Overall, this car is sooo fun to drive and whip around, although the v6 is slightly underpowered. General Maintenance (GM) isn't required much believe it or not. Running synthetic oil, fresh plugs, gas, tires and brakes (which get used alot by me) are almost all you need to have fun, get there in style, and most important fast!! ;*)Mar 04, 2009

Kellybird is her name. She is a 200 Pontiac Firebird, with t-tops, dark gray cloth interior, tinted windows, and crome rims. At just over 105'000 miles and still going strong. She will be a classic one day and I plan on keeping her in top shape to enter some of the car shows. She has a 3.8 V6 but you would never know it!! In the next month or two she will also have duel exhaust and I hope to have the ram air hood by the end of summer. And yes that is a bat in the front window. His name is Radar and goes everywhere with Kellybird. I love my Kellybird and she will not be sold for any amount of money!!!Jan 03, 2009

I love everything about this car. The V6 puts out a suprising amount of power and gets decent mileage. Very fun car, expecially with t-tops. Great performance aftermarket with a wide variety of options. My friends don't like it when they have to sit in the backseat, but I bought this car for me, not my friends. 130,000 miles and still going strong! If it wasn't for $4 gas, I would never consider getting rid of it. Fun to drive, great looking and not too many on the road. Everything creaks ... all the way to 192mph at 7800 RPM. Yep, no factory trim on this baby. Let's see: AirRide fully adjustable hydraulic suspension, 3 degrees negative camber on front at 5 inch drop, magnusson supercharger backed by STS Garrett turbocharger at WOT. Racing bakes, BFGoodrich gForce R1 tires with 275x17x40 profile on front and 315x17x25 profile on rear 12 inch wide rims. Cross braced, 6 point welded cage and a lot of racing components. 1.35g cornering in this trim measured in turn 2 at Laguna Seca in April 2008. It is fun watching the Porche and M3 guys thinking they're OK even when they hear the whine of the s7psi supercharger until the turbo kicks in at WOT and they kiss my tail pipe with their trice more expensive rides. I forgot to mention, 780RWHP at 7400RPM clear things up a bit. How about $30K new and 18K US invested? Daily driver. Try that in your money pit. Raced Infineon/Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Sacramento Raceway, Buttonwillow, and Reno-Fernley. And autocrossing SCCA and BMWCCA.
