The Nissan Altima was refreshed for 2000, receiving larger tires, a remodeled front and rear end, side airbags, a new dashboard, and rear cupholders. The Altima's engine also got an additional five horsepower.
The 2000 Altima came in four trim levels: the base XE, the midrange GXE, the sporty SE, and the luxurious GLE. The GXE was the most popular model, and the GLE came standard with leather seating and a power driver's seat. All Altimas in the lineup shared a 2.4 liter, 155 horsepower four cylinder engine. Fuel economy is 21/29 mpg.
Drivers like the 2000 Altima because it is a good value, gets good gas mileage, is comfortable to drive, and is very reliable. Some owners complain that it is a little bland, and there are some complaints about excessive road noise.

The Altima has taken me all over the place. I'm surprised by how much stuff can really fit and yet the car can still operate the same. Although it's only a 2.4L engine it was designed as a truck motor so it has an abundance of torque and power for the size of the car. The SE model is nice with leather and moonroof which makes the drives comfortable.Apr 21, 2015

performance? Laughable compared to most other vehicles but i like the steering
and brake feel. feels very light.
build quality? good enough. its got some odd squeaks and rattles but i think
most of it is because it just over 200,000 miles on it and has been wrecked
several times, aka hit Deer, hit black ice into ditch, someone drunk sideswiped it
and numerous other animals.
Appearance? not bad, rear looks kinda weird, like it was a hatchback then they
decided to change it to a sedan by extending the back just a little bit.
Cost of Ownership? good bough used very cheap. unfortunantly it need fixing
up a bit. new timing belt, reworked brakes, and new engine mounts. gets very
good gas mileage, as in 30-34 mpg. not bad.
Fun Factor? For an old worn out car it is extremely fun to drive, underpowered
but very peppy little engine, going through the gears is so much fun though, i
think thats the funest part of it, kust feeling that wonderful steering and fun
little engine windup then changing gears and doing it all over again!Oct 25, 2011

Stock the acceleration is mild for a 4 cylinder after my build I have added over 60whp and 40wtq as well as upgrading the whole car. It has tokico shocks hawk brake pads, a rear disc swap. I swapped it from an auto to a standard transmission. The gas mileage is still excellent approx. 24 mpg highway. I have nismo interior seats. Soon I am hoping to add another 200hp and 200 tq.Sep 11, 2010

Its got a 4 cylinder engine so its not the fastest car but it does alright. Build quality is good, and appearance is great because it has been maintained well. Very cheap to own, never had any major problems just normal wear and tear issues that come with any older car. Not the funnest car, but not the most boring car either. Aug 31, 2009

I think the car fits me well. I think it is great for people who have kids and don't want the mini van. It has a large trunk and you can still add modifications to make it look sporty. It's a great car as long as you keep the right fluids in it and perform oil changes on time. Aug 12, 2009

I hate that there are no cheap spare parts. The main controller of the power windows is starting to fail, and the only option I have is the Official Dealership. A very fun car to drive, really. Very fast on the road.Jun 01, 2009

I Love It. It runs like a charm. It has 115,000 miles, but runs good. The o2 sensor is going, but hey? what so you expect after 115,000 miles? The car is fun to drive and is good on gas. I dont know what else to say. Its a great car.Sep 11, 2008

This car was the last good Altima built. It features standard options with leather, decent performance for a car of its class, and is very reliable. The car has been pushed hard, and yet never showed any problems. Acceleration from 0-60 is between 9-10 seconds, which was okay for its time. The handling and breaking is impressive for a FWD sedan in its class. The design still holds well for an 8-year-old car. The new Altimas improved in designs and performance, but Nissan has degraded the materials they use to a subpar level. There have also bee reliability issues with the newer models. This is unfortunate for a company that use to build such great vehicles. Overall, this is a great car and I hope Nissan can recover from its recent mistakes.Aug 11, 2008

I think I broke facebook. I just typed a nice review and it deleted it. I will type it again anyway.
This is Dusty, my first car. While I don't have much comparsion, just my 2003 Nissan Sentra, I really loved this car. I had no choice on her, my parents signed a lease, brought her home and handed me a bill. They wanted a new car because they wanted something that would start every day and that wouldn't cost me a ton in constant repairs. It fulfilled that requirement. In fact, all I did besides oil changes was a brake replacement (and since I was a new driver, it was probably just me) and fixing a flat or two (once again probably my new driver-ness and the amount of miles I put on the car). Compared to the Sentra, there are lots of nice asethic things I didn't realize how much I appreciated until I didn't have them anymore- I loved having cupholders in the middle (they didn't block the air/radio/console controls), I liked that the glove box locked (and didn't open with the valet key), and the fact that the radio had a bar that showed where the volume was at.Apr 16, 2008

Overall not a bad car, I found out the intake manifold gasket on 2000 and 2001 Altima's goes out regularly, and its about $400-$800 to fix. Looks sharp with the spoiler and 16 inch wheels.Jan 01, 2008
2000 Nissan Altima 2.4l 4 cyl. I installed a new distributor and about 2 weeks later I was going down the hwy around 70mph it spit and sputtered then a huge back fire. Found the rotor inside the distributor was loose. The set screw came out. I fixed it. But now it smokes real bad. Any ideas? Thanks Joe
Hi my name britney in have a 2000 Nissan Altima and it turns over but won't crank I checked the feel pump and change that and the fuel filter as well I'm getting fuEl but it still won't crank
i have tested both engine cooling fans hi and low speeds work. all three relays check good. when i disconnect the coolant temperature sending unit the fans turn on and i did replace the sending unit.
2000 nissan altima key won't turn to lock to be removed. not sure if it is the shifter not fully ingaging in park (although it is in park and does not roll) so I have a shifter problem or a key cylinder problem
