With a major overhaul scheduled for the 2001 model year, there were few changes to the final version of the Lexus GS 400 in 2000. Just one-year later the car's 4.0 liter V8 would be replaced by a 4.3 liter power plant and the GS 400 would become the GS 430.
Changes from the 1999 model year included the addition of a BrakeAssist system and child seat-anchor brackets. Crystal White and Millennium Silver Metallic replaced Diamond White Pearl and Alpine Silver Metallic as color choices.
Drivers had few complaints about the GS 400, or at least fewer complaints than they would have about the first few versions of the GS 430. "Handling and performance wise, it is one of the best in it's category in my opinion," said one reviewer after five years of ownership. "It will stay with or outperform a BMW 540 any day and cost a lot less to maintain."

I love the car but it is a little underpowered. The only mod is an air intake. I want to do more but dont really have money to. It is quite quick though, the next thing i would like to add is a brake kit from the 98 supra. I need some more stopping power...Jun 21, 2013

I have the 2000 Lexus GS 300 Platinum Edition. The car is sleek, stylish and cutting edge! Not only does it have some "get up" it definitely makes you feel important! The seats "hug" you so to speak and I love that! My first Lexus car! I don't think I will go back to anything else!Jan 20, 2012

I love my car it is extremely reliable. don side I wish it had a
little more power. dont get me wrong it is plenty quick enough.
I am just a power freak and I dont think any amount of power

It's the most badass car ever man. Supra engine, albeit without the turbos. Very forgiving car as long as you have the right tires. Speed governor kicks in at 135 mph. This car begs to get some turbos slapped on the engine like it's Japanese counterpart. Brakes could be a bit better. First repair this car had maintenance wise was done at 115K miles. The style is timeless. The car was almost unchanged for 8 years, with the exceptions of new lights and wheels. Cost of ownership is not so bad, although ga mileage is not up to par with some of the newer cars. This car is point blank badass...Oct 26, 2009

I ask for something and she delivers always wanting more. Although Lexus could have outfitted them with the breaks of their flagship LS400 it is very easy to upgrade to the 4 pot LS400 calipers. Not too many bells and whistles like cool buttons or shoe-polishers you get what you need, and then some. Tie-rods to be changed at 60k miles to be safe, mine gave out at 91k. Annoying clank noise from breaks and slight wheel shake at 60 moh +- 4. Gas can be a pain in the ass but if you like spirited driving and nice pull at WOT then you'll love her. It was either her or a BMW540 at the time, didnt like the cost of parts of the Bimmer.Jul 19, 2009

The car is all together solid and the up keeping is not
that bad at all... I've been in a couple of races never
lost. It's a very smooth ride and the handle is great I
would most definitely recommend this car to anybody

The car is the best in class. It have leather interiors, Sunroof, it have a graet acceleration 300 horsepower the maintenace is not too high and i buy for a good price. it's not a new car but when I drive it I think and feel like if is new...Oct 08, 2008

My 2000 Lexus gs300 has no heat/ ac.
No heat/ ac- Control panel lights up, blower motor is testing fine, but no heat or ac. There is no sound at all. Dealer says the control board is faulty but I bought another one and neither one works. The new one was tested and it worked before I bought it. What could be the problem?
