Available as a sedan or coupe, the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix is a roomy mid-sized car perfect for family trips, while its high-performance V6 engine and sporty handling have enough kick to keep the driving enthusiast plenty satisfied.
Sedans come in SE, GT, and GTP trims. Coupes come as a GT or GTP only. The SE features a 3.1-liter, 160-hp V6, while the GT and GTP come with a much more aggressive and faster 3.8 V6. In the GT, this hits 200-hp, a 5-hp increase from the previous year. The supercharged GTP achieves 240-hp. This engine is an option on the SE sedan. A 4-speed automatic is the only transmission, though it does come with normal and performance shift modes. Other new additions to the 1999 Grand Prix are a few more options, including heated seats and OnStar. The GT sedan and coupe get a standard rear spoiler to help create a sporty look to go along with its engine.
A wide track design and stiffer suspension mean better handling for the 1999 Grand Prix, and drivers notice this right away. They say it performs best on the highway, has great acceleration and engine power, and takes curves and corners easily and tightly for a mid-size car. It is also sturdy and good in bad weather. Other favorite features are the pass-through to the trunk, the heads-up display, and the increased roominess. Cheap-looking and easily broken plastic parts are annoying, as is a tendency to squeak and rattle. Drivers wish there was a manual transmission option. Problems with the power window regulators persist.

I'm very pleased with my Grand Prix GT, so far it's been a pleasure to drive, and own. The only recent thing that kind of stranded me, was the starter went out, and it wouldn't start. I had to have it towed back to my house from where I work. Not very far, so the tow bill wasn't bad. We went and bought a new starter, and my son installed it. Stylish sedan. Fast and easy to handle and drive. Very quiet interior
but made of hard cheap plastics. Huge expenses for repair which were
often. Poor transmission which was replaced two time in two years.

I bought this car as the Detroit Police Department chose this model for their fleet as they stated they were looking for reliability on their bad roads and bad driving conditions. I could easily navigate thru a 6 inch plus snow fall. The ride is very comfortableMay 09, 2013

I grew up in a GM family, this is the fourth Grand Prix we've had since 1963. I have always loved them- they have always been good cars. On this one- I bought this for my daughter's 16th birthday. She learned how to drive in a Trans Am, and with my previous experience with GP's, I knew this would be a good choice for her. Ours is a two door, has plenty of room in the front and rear, has a big trunk- for the junk...lol
I think it's a good choice for a new driver. It's big enough so they wouldn't get too hurt in an accident, it has enough power to get out of the way, it handles and brakes good- really hasn't been any problems, other than what is going on now.

I love this this car because of the supercharge engine and reliability it has. my Favorite thing about the car is that the way it just glides so effortlessly down the road. I own a 1999 grand prix gtp spercharged. this is the perfect car for performance or just a daily driver. this car can be upgraded to over a thousand horsepower and still be street legal. mine has custom flowmaster exhast, a ported supercharger, and a 3.4 pulley. this car is fast. i blow away mustang gt's all day every day.May 25, 2011

i paid $950.00 cash for this car at an auction. this has been the best money i've ever spent on a car. the previous owner took good care of it the paint job is good the bumper is a little faded but maaco is running a $129.00 special on bumper painting so i may do that. it runs strong and is pretty good on gas. my wife says it's "zippy" the bose speakers and amp that came stock hit hard. the cd player didn't play cd's so i went to the junkyard and got a delco out of a '99 grand am for $19.00 now i can play my cd's. i like this car so much i plan to buy another one for my wife.Oct 06, 2010

Its has power already raced a GTP and won. Just need work body and suspension but a great car to drive the 3800 is decent but I'm planning on building another 3800 but stuck between turbocharging and supercharging. Take care of it and it will take care of you.Sep 14, 2010

Opt out for the 3800 motor, you won't be dissapionted. Lots of power and saves you a ton in gas money. Car is not over-sized passenger friendly (every seat filled with someone weighing 200-280) Unless you don't live on bumpy roads.Jan 05, 2010

shes tired has 163,000+ miles on it. planned upgrades are a new supercharger, smaller pulley, ported exhaust manifolds. when i bought her she wasn't taken care of so everything is starting to break. but shes a blast to drive when everything is working properly. right now the only mods i have are an slp loud mouth stainless cat back exhaust, and a k&n air filterDec 20, 2009

This car has decent get up and go and also rides decent for a newer car. This one has the 3800 v6 which is one of the best motors GM has ever built. If you are looking for a sporty looking car that still gets 25+ mpg I would recomend this car. Oct 27, 2009

Its an acceptably fast car right out of the factory. 6.5 second factort claim to 60 and a 130 mph goverened top speed from factory, and alot higher with a pcm. cost of ownership is cheap except for payments. alot of fun to drive. total sleeper.Jul 27, 2009

The 3800 is one of the most reliable motors gm ever built. I only wish i got the supercharged version, but for what it is , its still a pretty quick car. It's got a huge trunk, and a pretty luxurious interior. I only wish it got slightly better gas mileage.Jun 23, 2009

Goes like stink... it sucks that it needs super fuel....especially with the price of gas. Quality is what you would expect from a domestic built car...We love the heads up display... great feature. Pretty decent acceleration and braking, handles well. Has traction control.
No repairs in the 50,000 miles ive put on it
I love the way it looks haha
Gets like 27 mpg on the highway, but requires Premium gas.

The power coming off the line is outstanding for its class. No car, dollar for dollar can come close for performance. It's decent on gas and it runs for ever. Every time you get behind the wheel you get a rush to hit the gas and it just keeps on going faster!Aug 31, 2008

I like the fact that its supercharged and very quick, also has alot of potential for future upgrades to create more power. I hate the fact that it costs alot of money to do so. The acceleration is incredible whether your into the boost or not. Has 4 wheel independant suspension and even though my car is lowered it still has a great ride. The car also comes with 4 wheel disc brakes for great stopping power.
The cost of gas is quite high though since i need to run as high as octane as possible. The highest i can find in my area is 94 octance so it costs a good $70 to fill up without overfill because of today's gas prices. Thankfully i live in town so i only need about $20 a week in gas if that.
Overall my car is very fun to drive and i would recommend it to many people if they want a nice starter car to learn how to modify and get more performance out of it. Many people wouldn't think my Grand Prix is very fast but infact it is the fast Supercharged grocery getter car i have ever owned.Aug 24, 2008

Overall, with the GTP, there was very little to be done to it, other than maintenance. For the leaky intake manifold gaskets, was all warranty as was the leaky steering rack. It's not the fastest car on the road, or the most performance based, but for a family car, definitely one that would be at the top of my list.Jul 17, 2008

I love the acceleration and responsive handling. I love the whine of the supercharger and the sensation of of your head sinking into the upholstery! this car is a been pretty reliable vehicle. The car itself is a true thing of beauty. Flared fenders

the car comes stock with 240 hp and 290 torque, and is easily and cheaply modified to about 300 hp. some factory flaws that need replacing are the exhaust u-bent and the thin sway bars, small things but are easily fixed to make a big difference.Apr 07, 2008

i have a 1999 grand prix with a non supercharged 3.8 v6. i thought that gm made a supercharged 3.8 for that model. i was just wondering if you could find a factory supercharger for that engine package and basically bolt it on.

99 Grand Prix GT 3.8
This car sat for over a year. When I started driving it again it ran rough. Replaced plugs. Better for a week or so. Ran codes, cylinder 2 misfire. Bought wires, coil, air filter, fuel filter and on the way home with new parts, the rough got worse, car sputtered and died. As it did, it got louder like exhaust came apart. Upon inspection, sure enough pipe separated from cat converter. But now it won’t crank, just clicks. Oil is clean and full, never overheated. Only 185,000 on this 3.8. Charging battery right now to see if it will crank. I hoped my exhaust guy would have an answer. He says unrelated and coincidental. I’m stumped. Help please!!
