Once again, the 1999 Ford Expedition attracted buyers faster than Ford could get the vehicles off the line. The full-size SUV proved tremendously popular, and there was very little tinkering with the successful formula for the 1999 model year.
As in previous years, two trim levels were available for the '99 Expedition: XLT and Eddie Bauer. Even though the XLT was the entry-level model, it still shipped with plenty of snazzy features as part of its standard equipment (power everything, fog lights, separate heat/cool controls for front and back, and various other goodies). The Eddie Bauer trimline offered rugged luxury as part of its basic package, including leather upholstery, captain's-chair seats, and high-end interior detailing.
Why was the '99 Ford Expedition so popular? At 17 feet long, it actually fit into garages, parking spaces, and the like with greater ease than other full-size sport-utility vehicles like the bulky Dodge Durango. Drivers and reviewers alike praised its relative agility. And people looking for roomy interiors and big cargo space found what they sought in the 1999 Expedition, which seats 7 adults (9 with optional third-row seating), and has 120 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
The one change Ford did make for the 1999 Expedition was to up the power in its Triton V-8 engines. Buyers could choose a 4.6 liter overhead cam V8 with 240 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, or upgrade to a 5.4 liter version with 260 horsepower and a whopping 350 lb.-ft. of torque.

We've always been a ford family. There are always pros/cons to any vehicle that ya'll will own. I don't like the air compressor, air bags suspension, that you have to take the back seats out just to get more room when needed. I also don't like you can only unlock the door from just the driver side.
I love the duel heating control & radio control. We feel safe in the car or I wouldn't be driving it.Apr 20, 2015

Low fuel economy. It has been very reliable and practical. It is tough with good off-road traction. powerful AC and heater for any weather. Very roomy and comfortable for long trips. Good for short daily commutes, hauling boxes and people, and going on road trips.Jan 06, 2014

The expedition is a great vehicle. It is a great handler, hauler, and driver. It handles any weather conditions, can always be relied on to start, and is well recognized. Easily hauls a family or car of friends, or you can put down the second row, take out the third row, and you have a 6'6" truck bed for any needs. Very versatile, functional vehicle. Only down side to me is gas mileage.
Note: This truck took its last trip back in September. Heading south on HWY 41 in Parke County Indiana, it hydroplaned through a curve and rolled twice. Accident was due to adverse weather conditions and thus does not change my opinion on the quality of this vehicle.May 08, 2013

Great SUV, lots of room, seats up to eight passengers comfortably. Lots of horse power and sounds great with upgraded exhaust and air intake system. Very low maintenance needed, very dependable transportation for local or long distance traveling. This SUV rides and handles nicely with upgraded shocks, wheels and tires. Mar 14, 2013

I liked that there is plenty of room specially with a child seems to go anywhere and stay you gotta take half the house. Very comfortable i think my husband on the other hand didnt think it was comfortable. Blind spots but if you look all around you there is plenty of window space to see. overal a great family car or if you haul alot of stuff that a trunk wont do this would be greatApr 24, 2012

Love this car for size-roomy driver seating, plus the roomy passenger space. Also love the look of the Expedition in general! Don't like the gas guzzler that it is. I have driven it to Florida twice from Michigan and it was AWESOME!Aug 22, 2011

•Performance - acceleration, braking, handling
•Build Quality - Great
•Appearance - both interior and exterior styling I do like
•Cost of Ownership - gas mileage for an 8 seater 14-22mpg is fine with me, maintenance cost are low. little repairs needed 164,000 miles on it!
•Fun Factor- not a fun car to drive but a comfortable one.

I just got this Expedition as a package deal with a van I bought for work. It was fairly inexpensive with low enough mileage (150,000 km) and little work that needs to be done. The performance is impressive, not as good as my 2006 Expedition, but this will still pass with no problem on the highways. The acceleration is pretty good considering what a behemoth this truck is, Braking is very good since it has brand new brakes, and handling is average for a truck this size. The build quality is very nice, though like my 2006, the interior is sort of bland and I will be purchasing wood dash kits for both once I find time. So far there are no rattles or squeaks, or there are and my love of the high quality sound system is drowning them out. The exterior is nice and modern looking, but I will be changing the color as I do not like the green, and it needs a few small repairs for scuffs and some surface rust, but that is to be expected for an 11 year old vehicle. Interior is very nice, and I find everything is better placed than in my 2006. I will also be purchasing 2 back up cameras for my Expeditions because they are both difficult to park! The gas mileage could be better, and the maintenance has been good so far. It is pretty fun to drive, I love the sound of the Triton V8 engine when I press the gas, and I love the sound system. Overall this is a very nice SUV, and I would recommend it and the 2006 to anyone. Thanks for reading my review and checking out my ride, I hope this will be helpfull. CheersSep 26, 2010

This truck is a nice rig for a ford. I personaly hate ford with a pashion and have always owned and driven GM trucks. I am a 25 year old paraplegic and with in the seven years i've been in a chair the interior space of the truck is supprisinly quite roomie. My chair's no hospital ride, lol, and is quite a bit smaller and lighter. If I just take one wheel off its fairly easy to negociate it into and out with out a problem. The self adjusting air ride suspention is quite nice, but would rather have the rear bags on switches. This is because the truck sits rite down when not being driven and the pump takes forever to aquire a proper psi lever for its current load, weather if it were to be loaded or not. She can suck back a tank of gas fairly quick if you want to get up to speed asap rite when you will have to slow down or come to a stop. I seem to get between 20-24 mpg which I thought was good. Now that I see 16-18 mpg is good I think some people just need to learn how to drive and remember that gas isn't cheep. Oh did I mention I got it for only $1000. Thats the onl realy big reason why im driving it. cheersSep 25, 2009

This Truck Is Very Roomy. I do not like that it takes a long time to pick up because its heavy. It is very fun when you have a lot op people on the SUV. It is very efficient on the gas although its a V8. I do regular tune-up so it helps.May 05, 2009

I love the air suspension, gives it a real smooth ride,
and it has a turn radius like none other. Gas mileage is
terrible, but it is powerful and comfortable. It is a
great car to drive. I hope the car sticks around for
many years to come, it has not failed me yet.Mar 08, 2009

Love the space and the power, the heated seats for winter and the great color and style of the Eddie Bauer. We bought this one 9 years old with less that 90k and it's just like a new one to us and we love it. It has been a bit of a gas eater, but well worth the $4000 we paid for it.Nov 26, 2008

The ford expedition is a fun SUV to drive. It is so high off the ground that I can see the roof of an explorer. Performance wise it is very good. I haven't had to do much work on it. It is incredibly easy to do oil changes on. My expedition has the eddie bauer trim package ( leather seats , sunroof and 6cd changer in the armrest.) MPG really stink , it only gets about 13, but it is very safe and makes driving in winter a breeze. The only real issue I have had with the expedition is the rough shift . When the engine RPMs are high the gear shifts feel vaguely like being kicked by a mule; but that problem can be avoided by relatively slow acceleration. Oct 06, 2008

Performance - Acceleration is Decent for the size, braking is good, handles well.
Built well- though did need a transmission rebuild at 150,000 miles.
Cost or Ownership- Horrible gas millage 12.9 with new exhaust and cold air intake.
The car is fun to drive especially off road! If your looking for a family car and a toy this is it!Sep 09, 2008

I brought this vehicle because I like to travel and it has plenty of space inside for my 6ft 3in frame. I drove this vehicle from California to Virginia with no problem. I have had many mods done to it. my next mod will be to either lower her 2 inches or put her on some bags.Aug 26, 2008

I have a Expedition with a 5.4 engine. At idle my short term is -0 to - 4. & at Long term both banks read -14. While I am driving my short term is +1 to -3. My Long terms are at 0 & my mileage goes up. I have changed just about everything trying to figure this out. Can someone please give me some insight on this? Thanks!
My first Ford Expedition. It is a 1999 Eddie Bauer fully loaded carrying 121,000 miles. No license plates, no title and no battery when purchased and to top it all off the chk susp light was on. After reading the manual, I have located the switch then tentatively pushed, pulled and feeling around for an actual switch I realized that I was afraid that I'd break something. The service engine soon light is also on but I cannot use by OBD reader because I'm almost out of gas.; True story, I did not find out about the locking gas cap until I pulled into a gas station. 7 miles til empty. No kidding. This is fun. Thank you in advance.
My 1999 Ford expedition was moth balled for a year or two before I ended up with it. Is there a hot air intake? I've disinfected the AC cold air intake and that runs clean, but when I turn on the heat I can still smell a mouse nest somewhere inside the vents. Any advice on how to resolve this?
I have a 99 expedition 4wd, I have changed all the rotors, pads severe duty, master cylinder, have manually & power bled the lines & still feel there is not much stopping power. I have done the checks on power booster & it checks out. 21 " of vacuum to booster. I tow a boat with this so the brakes have to be good. Does anyone think it could be the booster still? Or please give me your input, it would be very much appreciated!!!!
My Ford expedition back end is hang low like the compressor is not filling the air bags and the battery is going dead every 2 days and when turning SUV off very strong gas smell
