After its redesign in 1998, the 1998 Audi A6 offered no changes to its sedan. However, the wagon finally got its makeover and upgrade to the 2.8-liter, DOHC, 200-hp V6 with 5-speed Tiptronic auto/manual transmission Both sedan and wagon were available in either front-wheel drive or AWD quattro with standard ABS brakes and improved traction control
More rounded on the outside, with a gently sloping rear window, the elegant sedan was equally luxurious on the inside. The 1998 A6 offered three "atmospheres" for interior styling, depending on whatever lifestyle wanted to live out in your car. The red-lit gauges made it easier to read the dash at night, and ergonomic features were both convenient and unobstrusive. Different weather packages added leather upholstery, power sunroof, memory power driver's seats, and heated seats.
The quattro engineering remained top-notch in the 1998 Audi A6, seamlessly distributing power where most needed, and many owners claim it performed better than an SUV in bad weather conditions. Tight handling and cornering continued to be Audi trademarks, and owners felt pampered and spoiled by the roomy, luxurious interior. A large trunk for cargo made the Audi A6 equal parts family sedan and high-end cruiser. It still suffered from being slow off the line, though cruised nicely once it hit highway speeds. Reliability was so-so, with many owners disappointed about the number of repairs needed. Some complaints about road noise and scraping the front bumper are also noted.

I bought my 1999 Audi A6 Quattro in 2004 with 90,000+ miles on it. Over the last ten years I've put over 100,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. If you can find one now (2014) with under 125,000 miles on it, you'll probably be able to pick it up for close pocket change - and with some care and maintenance, be able to drive it for several years.Oct 11, 2014

Great daily driver. A little hard on gas but very reliable and safe. Quattro gets me to work in any weather. I was a Honda man for years but purchased a Volkswagen Passat (essentially an Audi) some years back and was turned onto audi. If you are mechanically inclined at all don't be afraid of an older audi with some miles on it.Jun 10, 2013

Great Car when maintained properly and cared for. Excellent for all seasons. Not that many problems, but it is only getting older and parts will have to be replaced. Excellent first car and cannot go wrong. Pushes strong and will stay like that.Feb 26, 2013

the newer audis are better but this one is ok so i dont mind it. i would like to have the 2.7T which makes the car perform way better. also the RS6 i would not mind to own that car maybe some day i will.Aug 19, 2010

The A6 is a very quiet and comfortable vehicle - especially at highway speeds. It is well equipped with full leather, sunroof, power seats/windows/mirrors. The handling is surprisingly good given the relatively soft and slightly under-damped ride. Build quality is exceptional and even with 150,000 miles the car is very tight. The Bose audio system produces superb sound throughout the vehicle, and is very easy to operate. Performance is adequate, but it is by no means a fast car.May 29, 2010

seats are uncomfortable after an hour but a good runabout. does 55mpg though which is excellent, fastish so long as your not racing. effective aircon and heater and is warm in seconds which is good on a nasty cold morning. Dec 20, 2009

reliable. Not to mention German made. It's an audi first of all,
and you can't really ask for more as a first car. It's awesome.

Great, fast car. 2.4 Engine is very strong, gearbox is immaculate. Very soft, easy ride, great for long trips. Comfort is extremely well thought out. A bit rough on the gas mileage due to the V6 under the bonnet, but worth the extra penny! Oct 14, 2009

Only the people who have gone in an Audi would know how good it is! The ride is just magnificent... people might say that mercedes and BMW are better! all these cars are in the same range and each and every make has their problems..i mean No car is perfect..it might have even a small default!!
It does around 6km/l..
0-100 in like 6-8 seconds...

big and comfortable shifts pretty well and not bad on the twisty bits but pretty un aventfull. insurance not to bad but parts are a killer eg a new battery gunna dent my wallet by 100 bones at least but fuel ok get 33 to the gallon got if for sale if ya want itSep 03, 2009

Heated steering wheel broke quick, locks dont work, back windows dont go down. Love ther heated seats. Goes nice. Love the look. Maintenence fees are high. I love driving it. One of my dream cars. Drives like crazy. Nice acceleration and awsome drive and control. With a good appearance and a solid build quality it is worth every single penny paid for it.

My Audi isn't starting right away
My Audi is still isn't starting right away I just replaced the valve cover gasket's because gas and oil was getting on the spark plugs and it was misfiring I also replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires and the initial coil and got a brand new battery I'm still having the issue with it not starting right away but when I get it started it has a rough idle and it starts every single time after that really easy I tell it's been setting over night. Could the Emissions PVC cause this I would appreciate the help

99 Audi A6 won't crank
Little while ago I changed the oil pan in my 2.8L AWD 99 Audi A6 Quattro because it got cracked ran it a bit with little oil and tried to start it without oil wouldn't start and realized it didnt sound right. While I was changing the oil pan I noticed a bit of what seemed to be a bit of sand?? I just recently bought this vehicle used so no idea how long that's been in there but I cleaned it out best I could, the battery died I boosted it and it turned over but didn't sound the best while trying to turn over at first but held gas down for bout 20 seconds and started sounded fine got out and it died started up again quick revved it up a bit as soon as I let off the gas it died again and Then it would crank but not want to turn over and eventually just started making fast repeated clicking noise Let it sit for a couple days and it cranked a couple times slowly and started clicking again let it sit for a month thought I'd try again and now all I get is the fast repeated clicking noise coming from engine compartment no crank at all. Hooked up a code reader and got misfire from cylinders 4 and 3, random/multiple cylinder misfire detected, and secondary air injection system incorrect flow detected. Don't see why those codes would prevent from cranking. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?
