1998 Honda CR-V Preview summaryImage

The 1998 Honda CR-V seems to be the alternative SUV for people who consider practicality over size. With the exception of minor design considerations, most all consumers are very pleased with comfort, style, maneuverability and safety features.

In mid-1998, Honda introduced a 5-speed transmission along with a simple front-wheel drive option for the CR-V. All models are designed for seating five people, and duel airbags come standard.

Some people have requested a more powerful engine, yet the available 126-hp, 2.0-liter engine seems to get the job done. This SUV is designed with a side-opening tailgate with the spare tire mounted on the outside - clearly built with storage in mind. Honda even moved the shifter up onto the steering column in order to accommodate extra long carrying items. With all this focus on hauling, the rear seats (when in use) could be a bit more comfortable.

Consumers who are driving their vehicles 150,000 to 200,000 miles tell us the secret is being sure to keep up regular maintenance. If you treat this SUV right, it will reward you for many years.

Great all-around vehicle. 300k miles. Designed to be utility vehicle. 1998-2000 years were the best. After that the car got flu-flu re-designs. Mar 01, 2020

good comfortable car, rides and handles really well. I bought the car from a lady that couldn't afford to have timing belt and resulting valve damage repaired and did the repairs myself. I have driven the car about 1000 miles with no oil consumption or loss of any fluids. I just don't need to keep it. I put in new antifreeze (Advance 50/50), and changed oil (Pennzoil 5w30 and Fram filter) when repairs were done.Mar 21, 2012

Terrific gas mileage. All "wear and tear" parts replaced and car has been very well maintained. A fun, safe and dependable ride. The AWD was great during the snow and ice. Hey! It's a Honda, what more can you say?Apr 06, 2011
