1998 Honda Accord Reviews, Pricing & Specs

All in, if I was looking to buy another mid-size family saloon for medium to long distance work, I'd think seriously about another Accord. It was very comfortable, behaved well in traffic and on the open road. The Accord I had was a 2.2 V-Tec, it was plenty fast for fun and traffic light drag racing, but economical on the motorway if driven carefully.Jan 30, 2014

This car has always been close for me & my dad our first car ever we bought at a used car lot it was just imported from Singapore Performance: yall all know about honda's and vtec's yea i love the 2.0 vtec braking was spot on for this ride , handling wasn't that bad cause its FWD Build Quality: well me & dad had an accident that's when everything started to go bad from there nearly all our money went into this accord cause it was part of the fam but parts were hard to get and expensive so yea wish-bone broke and because it was a auto-transmisson after the accident it always had problems switching gear the car would rev and wouldn't change gear for a few minutes, sometimes you might just have to turn off the engine and turn it back on... Apperance: well in my opinion i love the look of the Accord LX has that sporty sedan look ...interior was really okay for me loved the black leather and not to many buttons on it which was just good for me mileage was great fun to drive especially when VTEC KICKED IN YO! ;) lol jks jks this car has always got a special place in my heart! was kinda sad when Dad sold it...and he didn't even told me after being from my country for almost 6 years i came back to see an Indian man bought it and is driving it proudly ....i see he fixed her up and she also has a new spoiler happy to see she okay :)Oct 24, 2013

Haven't owned it for long, but since it's a honda I expect it to have good quality! The performance is good, 2.3l vtec pulls hard, brakes good and takes the corners like a train on tracks. So far I've had to replace the strut top because it went dry, and the clear coat needs fixing. The interior is roomy and comfortable, the exterior is nothing special, but with a few mods would look good. Gets really good fuel mileage, hopefully maintenance isn't too costly in the future. The car is really fun to drive, always a blast once vtec kicks in!Feb 23, 2012

I never thought I would ever buy a Honda. This car is amazing! It was pricier than my Mustang and Eclipse combined, but it is definitely worth it! The only problem I've had with this car is that the Power Steering pump went out. I'm the second owner and it has 136xxx miles on it. The car is beautiful inside and out. Maintenance is very inexpensive, I get around 33 MPG. It is a stick so I have fun driving it. It has a very straight forward style to it, not my favorite body style by Honda, but it does the job. I'm more of a sports car guy, but being a college student, thats not the best option right now.Oct 19, 2011

acceleration is 0-60 in about 15 sec breaking is easy and nice takes turns good but leans a lil bit at a faster speed its a honda it has 184,000,000 miles on it and can keep going and im hard on it grey on inside and out needswork on appearance good milage like 35 highway its fun to drive if u have a stick and u know how to use it still it needs a lil more power overall great car to have for any driver... teen, adult, old man (woman) or anyone :)Jul 30, 2010

With custom header, modded ECU and aftermarket suspension, this car is actually performs quite good. Although with the size of the medium sedan, the car's weight is relatively low and couple with a bit of weight removal, I could say it could give me a little thrill. The downside is the brake though. On standard trim, the car should perform decently.Jun 24, 2009

Overall it is a great car. It almost has 140,000 miles on it and I've only had to do routine maintenance and change out a wheel bearing. The body lines of the car are also the best of any generation Accord in my opinion. The only place the car is lacking is performance. The car has a little get up and go at the top end, but nothing at low RPM's. But then again, it wasn't built for performance was it?Nov 01, 2008

Shes got 190+ thousand miles and the engine still runs strong. Body is scratched to hell (thanks dad). The interior is clean, but a little rough in some spots. Seems like I hear something else rattle every week. Got a nice head unit and was going to replace all the speakers, but she's just not worth it. Solid people hauler though. I replaced the headlight assemblies with OEM style ones with black housing. Looks a bit better, worth it for $50. Also has an intake, which was DEFINITELY worth it. This engine sounds great with just an intake, really deep and loud sound (comparatively of course). Would recommend the intake to any accord owner. It really does add decent power because the stock setup is so restrictive.Mar 27, 2008

Well what can I say about Hondas, built to last forever... or until the body decides to give up and fall. This was my faimily car, I drove it for the past few years, long journey through Europe, for work... for a '98 car it still drives nicely, of course compared the the Fiat it lacks in every aspect... well except leg room for people in the back and visibility. Bits might fall off but the engine will still go forever. Exhaust might need replacement after a few years, cam belt and radiator might leak.Jan 15, 2008

My 1998 4-cylinder Honda Accord LX 4-door was the first car I ever bought new. After owning a used 88 Honda Prelude and a 90 Acura Integra, I was already familiar with Honda quality and reliability. In the 98 Accord, Honda’s quality and reliability were ever present. However, the Accord was significantly larger than the Prelude and Integra I previously owned and I was afraid that the increased size and weight would make the Accord more of a family hauler and less of a fun driver. I was pleasantly proven wrong. Unlike many Toyotas I have driven which are very well built and thoughtfully designed but not remotely driver focused, Honda always seems to inject their products – be they sport coupe or sedans – with the drive enjoyment. Honda’s, like most other Japanese auto manufactures, has really nailed down quality. From engineering excellence to low-cost operation, the Japanese have lead the way for decades. Striving for such excellence has brought us a slew of “characterless” appliances that have us expecting trouble-free operation with little or no effort on our part. If all you desire or expect from you car is reliability and years of trouble-free operation, I see a Camry in your future. If you want reliability and feel like you’re participating in the driving experience, Accord is your choice. True, there are some Camry models that have a decidedly more sporty edge but every Accord, from the base DX to the highline EX-V6 have driving enjoyment designed into them from the start and you don’t have to pay extra for the privilege. My 98 Accord LX was very basic. It was a 5-speed with no options. This doesn’t mean it was a stripper. In LX trim, the 98 Accord included a manual multi-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows and door locks, cruise control and air conditioning and a 4-speaker stereo with cassette (no CD). One of the things I wish the LX model had was better brakes. The disc/drum set-up worked fine but lacked ABS as standard equipment. You need to move up to the EX trim package to get 4-wheel discs with ABS as standard and, the gift of hindsight would now have me consider the EX over the LX for this very reason (not to mention extra toys like a sunroof and CD –player). The quiet and refined 4-cylinder puts out a very usable 150 horsepower and the 5-speed manual is crisp and fluid. Together they provided the best balance between power and economy (mid-30 mpg on the highway). The lighter inline-4 was well balanced in this chassis and I never felt overworked or at a loss for power and it was the first Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) sold in the State of California. What I truly enjoyed about my Accord was how the engine, transmission and steering all worked together to create a very capable sports car with the convenience of a large back seat and two extra doors. My Accord and I spent many a weekend exploring the myriad of twisty canyon roads Southern California has to offer. Each trip was a joy. How many cars can offer you driving excitement and utter reliability in the same package? In my opinion this generation Accord is a best buy if you want Japanese reliability and driving enjoyment yet, even with all the kudos that this car hard rightfully earned it too suffers a bit from the generic-car syndrome that afflicts Japanese products. Perhaps this is the double-edge sword that consumers need to embrace if they want reliability. Fortunately, Honda throws a little spice into this recipe to keep us awake behind the wheel. As for me, I’m willing to give up a bit of reliability for more personality. I now drive a VW Passat. Never the less, I still have very fond memories of my Accord. Thanks Honda. Apr 12, 2007

I can only rave about this car. I have owned it now for 4 years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The comfort, the power, the looks. All top notch. Rides so smooth. Mine is the V6 and I get about 30 mpg on a trip. Somewhere in the 24 range from city driving. I do not think that is too bad for a V6. I gladly give up a little mpg for the power that this car has. I had a 1995 Accord LX wagon prior to this car and thought it was the bomb. Once I got this car and drove it for a while I knew I was wrong. The 1995 was a nice car, but it does not compare to the room and ride I get from the 1998. If you have not driven a Honda ... your loss. They are some of the very best vehicles on the road today ... bar none.Jan 26, 2007
