1995 Toyota Camry 2.2 ltr 4 cyl
Died while driving. Cranks but won't start. I checked all the fuses and they were all good. Have power to coil and ignitor but no spark? Can anyone tell me what else to check

The Toyota Camry got a small makeover for 1995, receiving a new grille, headlights and taillights. The new look was more upscale, but still maintained the Camry's signature conservative style. By 1995, the Camry was beginning to feel more high-end all around, with many structural and mechanical pieces borrowed from the luxury Lexus ES.
The 1995 Toyota Camry sedan was available in the DX, SE, LE and XLE trim levels. The coupe came in the DX, SE and LE trim levels. The base DX version of the wagon was dropped, leaving only the LE. Available engines were a four-cylinder, 2.2 liter or a V6, 3.0 liter. Fuel economy was about 20 to 30 mpg, depending on the engine.
Drivers praise the 1995 Toyota Camry for its reliability and performance, with many saying they'd take a used Camry over a brand new car any day. The car is roomy, drives smoothly, and while its unflashy appearance won't turn any heads, it does offer drivers a headache-free driving experience as long as the driver takes care of it.

This was a great car for a beginning family. It holds car seats easily, but if your front seat passengers are over 6', it is going to get cramped. Rear seats fold down for extra storage. Runs smooth and quite, and has decent power.Sep 11, 2014

This is the prototypical Camry. Will last forever, but doesn't have any bells or shiny whistles and is definitely nothing too exciting to look at. That said I wouldn't trade this car for the world. It has gotten us through so much with it's dependability. You can always trust a Camry. Feb 14, 2013

I like the low mileage for the year of the vehicle, and the great gas-mileage! A few cosmetic dings, but it is a '95, and you cant get one of those in perfect condition looks wise. Its the way it runs, and the small amount of gas it burns that really counts!Jul 31, 2012

With the help of a mechanic I bought this car for 1500 dollars 8 years ago and rebuilt it. The car is engineered like a Russian Submarine - solid, tight tolerances, and nice intelligent touches. The appearance is somewhat ordinary - like a 87 Tauras. The performance is average except the luxurious feel of the car. Here are some informative tips that will give anyone happy motoring if the buy a 92-96 Camry:
When you replace the timing belt replace everything around the timing belt- the water pump, the tentioners, pulleys, oil pump seal, etc. Just save youself the headache and get it all done. It will save you big bucks in the long run.
If you climb in the car one day and it turns over but will not fire it is 90 percent of the time the distributor with this Camry from 150 to 200 thousand miles. Supressors, capacitors, and coils tend to go bad inside of the distributor. Also, don't forget to change the AM2 fuse.(the fuse box by the battery, 30A fuse). When a part in the distributer goes bad the fuse blows when you turn on the ignition.
The wiring to the power locks and windows breaks and shorts.The fuse is under the dash to the right of the steering wheel (Difficult to get to and difficult to replace). You can grab this fuse and wiring harness out of a junk yard to save bucks.
Otherwise, if this car is regularly maintaned it is a great reliable point A to point B car. Hope these lessons Ive learned helps someone.

After I started commuting in rush hour traffic, I sold my cavalier and got my mother's car; her 1995 Toyota Camry. After putting around 2000$ of repairs into it, it runs fine for an old car. It doesn't feel like it's aged, but, of course, suffers from problems like any old car. It's very dull to drive, it has "O.K" comfort, O.K performance for daily driving, O.K fuel economy, etc. It's a generic car. It's a bit hard to start during winter with a new battery. I take my Chevette more often. It's my first Japanese car and it's been an O.K experience.
The biggest improovement over my past, american cars is on the build quality. The camry doesn't have rattles like my other cars had, the plastics are good quality and well assembled. I haven't noticed any improovement on the reliability side. I've had a bit more problems with the american cars I've owned, but they were always easy to fix and CHEAP! This one costs an arm and a leg to fix, and when something breaks, it's something "big". Yes, it's nice to have a car that doesn't rattle and stuff, but I also paid much more for that car than the other ones.
Bottom line: It's far from being a bad car! Gets the job done, runs great etc. but I wouldn't pay that much again for a used car for the little difference it makes on quality and reliability (the value is pretty much the same as the 2004 Cavalier I owned).

This car is not made primarily for performance. The car performs weel, it is primarily to be used as a commuting car. The car cost very little to maintain and is ideal for a first car. the appearance of the car is mediocore it is no meant to something that imeadiatley grabs the attention of others. overall the car is great and reliable.Apr 03, 2011

performance is pretty bad, acceleration is slow, and the brakes are mushy.
the build quality is pretty good, it has 25xxxxx mileage on it and everything is as tight as a drum.
appearance wise its pretty bad, it has 3 dents from 3 different accidents over the ownership of 6 years. outside is pretty much wrong but the interior is pretty clean
maintenance wise is pretty good, all i gotta do is basic tuning and put gas in the tank and it'll go just about anywhere i need to.

This is by far the EASIEST Manual I have ever shifted! I don't think you can even stall it out if you try! Its like a luxury stick shift! These engines are built to go and go forever. I have a 4 cyl with almost 220,000 miles and it's still very strong. This car will definitely make it to over 300k miles! Without a doubt!!! Dependable and very good on gas!! We converted a 1995 Toyota Camry LE into a 24 Hours of LeMons car. The braking is excellent with OEM parts (althought we do chew through pads). Acceleration is good for a 4 cylinder. The automatic transmission has held up to some extreme beating. The car has over 200k miles and we're revving over 6k regularly. I know Toyota would laugh, and deservedly so, but this car consistently finishes in the top half of the field competing against old Mustangs, BMWs, Miatas, and just about everything else you could think of.Jul 01, 2010

The car is stable even at 85 mph!
Pack this waginski to the max and it still gets 35 mpg!!

I really love this car. My '95 has 247,000 km now and is totally reliable, and is a pleasure to drive. Holds the road so well, especially on corners. I have only had minor repairs and they are infrequent. With the 4 cyl. engine I get 35m/gal. or 8.4Km/100km. Lots of power too. I even tow a large utility trailer with it.

Good acceleration, bad braking, sloppy suspension
Good quality, simple and easy to repair, no squeaks or rattles
Doesn't look that great but has leather, 6cd changer, radio, ac, power everything, cruise, and sunroof!
Dost of onwership is great. Doesn't cost much at all. Just put gas in it and it will go! 23-26mpg

It has really great gas mileage, and the air conditioning is really cold, and the heat is really really hot and it gets cold or hot really fast. its not that fun to drive anymore cuz dakota taught me how to drive a manual car and now automatic is boring lol. the interior and exterior is kinda like an old lady car, it doesnt break down very much which is great for being an older car.Aug 18, 2009

This car is great for just getting around.
Obviously, it can't touch a sports car in terms of performance, but it does what's necessary.
I've gotten in a couple fender benders, and each time, it's been relatively unscathed. There is a little oil leak that I've been neglecting , and there are only 2 windshield wiper settings (the 2 fastest), but that's all that's really wrong with it.

the most attractive, but it has held up very well over
the years and has needed few repairs. The V6 provides
good acceleration, and still runs like new despite the
150k miles on it. The car is cost efficient, holding up
to 7 people and getting 28 mpg highway and is
inexpensive to maintain. The positive to owning a

Reliable car, will last forever if you treat it well.
It is a 4-cylinder so it has a limited amount of pick up, but it has plenty of power for city driving and has good gas milage.
The car is easy to drive, it is an automatic with good power steering. It has 151k miles and I have never had a problem starting it up, especially on the coldest mornings in the winter time.Aug 18, 2008

was the old family car graciously given to me by my folks. I learned how to drive a stick on it back in 1999. It had a ton of miles on it when I got it and I put a ton more on. Reliable as hell, but just no fun: I drove it grumpily to class at 7am and through snow that niether of my older cars would have made it through, at least not sideways. At 252,000 miles its second engine it died with a peaceful puff of white smoke as I was pulling into my driveway.May 30, 2008

I think that this car is still a good car to own today. It is a reliable car, and is also
pretty safe. This car does not have ABS so the brakes are not fantastic but are still
ok. The body of the car does get dented easily. Also since this car is old you can
find one for cheap. The gas mileage is good, it is not a gas guzzler and is very
reliable. This car as been in my family since 1995 and we have never had any major

this car has survived numerous beatings, and no matter how often i bury the gas pedal, it doesn't complain or break. it can haul a ton of crap including a ka24de, or some friends, can go 140 mph, and since it got hit and salvaged, it bought me the supra, and all it needed was a side marker. 120k miles and i expect at least another 120k before any major failures.Apr 01, 2008

Loss of power in acceleration from stop to 2000 rpm
1995 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder with 292,000 miles. My currently issue is a significant loss of power during acceleration from a stop. It is usually the worst getting to the 3000 rpm level. I put my foot on the gas, sometimes to the floor, and it really hesitates. Sometimes I have to coax it, pumping the gas, before it grabs. Once it does, it is totally fine- drives normally. It's only from a dead stop or going up hill that I have these issues. About 5 days ago, I had meineke examine it, and they were pretty stumped. Because Toyota did not start making cam's with OBD II until '96, they had to manually look at the different systems. After about 5 hours on it, they said they think it's a timing issue- timing belt jumped a tooth. My dad, who is pretty good with cars, looked at the timing belt and said the belt itself looked fine. (He did not completely disassemble as if to replace it; just took off timing cover). He said with a timing light he could tell more, but that is proving to be a difficult tool to borrow/find nowadays. He also suspects a problem with the tensioner since it does have a rattling noise at idle. In a desperate effort to save my beloved car, (and I love this stupid thing), in the last week the following has been done: serpentine belt replaced, ETC sensor replaced, and cleaned throttle body. Since doing these things, the idle has improved drastically. When the problems first arose a few days ago, it had a very rough idle. I suspect cleaning the throttle body had something to do with this improvement. A few suggestions from mechanically inclined friends and online forums have been thrown such as: checking the EGR valve, MAF sensor, fuel filter/pump (even though meineke said it looked fine), clogged fuel injector, or possible vacuum leak. I am at a loss with what to do next. Meineke said to junk it and move on (based on mileage I guess). If this issue is easily and inexpensively fixable, I want to salvage this vehicle. It's very reliable otherwise, and I have been adamant in maintenance. What would be the best course of action for me to pursue next? Any advice is welcome and greatly appreciated.
