Hi, I have a ford Bantam Rocam. I mistakenly touch the positive cable with a welding rod when was busy welding a bracket on a car. The battery was not in the car anyway, what could have happened?

I have a 2008 Bantam Rocam (1.6 XLT). while driving at a constant speed it would jerk every now and then. Had a service done but the jerking still there and gotten worse, Bakkie smells like it runs rich and the jerking is much more now ( epecially when pulling away and driving slow in higher gear) and even backfires occasionally when it splutters..Any idea what to look for
