The car has power, the looks and style are good, low maintenance, the back seats are small for adults, great breaks, handles well in all conditions, front seats are comfortable, extremely reliable, good for a young family with small children, or no children because of the back seats, fuel economy is good, about 30 hwy, price is right, fun, easy and safe to drive, overall great deal!Jan 16, 2013

the overall performance isnt great, but it can squeal tires. braking and handling are decent (could be worse). under the hood is pretty straight forward, and easy to work on, after it gets a headgasket, not much will be expensive. the exterior is a good balance of boxy and rounded. the interior is comfortable and user friendly. fairly good on gas and parts are cheap and plentiful. for a little 4cyl. it can be fun to drive, but also safe.Nov 13, 2010

Really great car. Mine lasted up to 277k before I got t-boned, and it was still running really well. It's 2.2 4 cyl was easy on gas and had enough pep to get the car moving, but it was certainly nothing fast. The 3 speed automatic trans left something to be desired (for example, another gear) and was swapped out at ~250k because first gear was slipping badly. A common problem with these cars is that when at an idle the engine can shake quite a bit, but that's more of an annoyance than a problem. I realize it's far from good-looking, but I gave it 5 stars for appearance just because I loved the ugliness so much. The ugliness is to be embraced! The body on mine was still in decent shape, but it is common for the bottoms of the doors to rust out like crazy, especially on the 4 door. Another great thing about this car: It'll go anywhere. I even took it on ATV trails to get to a campsite. It is also REDICULOUSLY easy to install aftermarket electronics in (eg stereo system)Nov 02, 2010

Its a monster that never has let me down. Since I have it I have never let me down on the street. Tooo much power to the type of car (2.2). If I have the chance I will buy another one!!!Aug 07, 2010

Could get up and go for a 4 cylinder.
Just felt right.
Got good gas milage.
Could beat on it a little.
Had to fix a few things right away.
Was very fun to drive.

It is fuel efficeint, powerful, and it holds all my family memories. Although it is fifteen years old it is still a great car. I am so confident about it that i think it will last til 400 000 kmOct 09, 2009

The thing won't die. it's a german war tank. it sucks gas pretty bad for a freakin 4 cylinder, but you can have a lot of fun in it. The E-brake is on the side, so hell you can drift in the darn thing.Oct 03, 2009

Its a good lil car doesnt do to bad on gas mine has a body kit and a wing, it has a 3 1/2 inch tip on the exhaust lowered about an inch other than that the only other addition is my intake.Sep 07, 2009

What else is there to say other than the visual appearence it's basically the same car as the 2000 model, well the handling wasn't as tight and wasn't lower to the ground like the 2000. Interior wasn't as... appealing as it was more so in the 2000 model.Sep 04, 2009

Not the greatest car in the world, but hey, its gets you from point A to point B. Handling is terrible, so is the acceleration, the only good thing about this car is the gas millage. other then that the car is just a car, nothing special.Aug 10, 2009

This car performs with respectable acceleration for a 2.2 but has no overall top speed, you are at 5th gear by 90km.
It has a known problem with under caridge rust.
It's easy on gas and cheap as hell, I'd recommend this as a daily driver with a little extra balls, but not much.Jun 30, 2009

This car was a tank. It had 250 odd k on it when I
bought it for 600 bucks from my brother. It lasted for
another 50k before it dropped a piece of spark plug

I bought this car new with 5 Speed Manual Transmission; had After-market AC added, Cruise Control added and a great AM/FM Stereo Added. I drove the car until recently and put approximately 155,900 miles on it. It averaged 25-26 mpg City and about 36-39 mpg highway until just recently. Never had any kind of drive-train problems in 15 1/2 years of use. Only real complaint was that the driver's door panel had rattles and eventually came apart on me. I had to get head-gasket fixed about 7 years ago and have replaced alternator several times. Averaged about $700/year maintainance and repairs over 15 1/2 years. Apr 03, 2009

Loved the room, I don't remember having problems until it was well over 100k. Nice ride....it was purple...
Easy on gas, good acceleration. Awesome in the snow! It was like a tank, I used it to deliver newspapers. Sound system was great in it also. Jan 08, 2009

Only having the automatic version, I can't say anything about the actual manual transmission. But, the automatic is very clunks and slow, and the engine is has NO torque to speak of, but the top end isn't too bad. Gutless, but not too shabby.
Build quality starts at poor and degenerates from there. Cheap, chunky interior plastics would feel more at home on some pacifier than in a car.
Fun Factor: good starter car; it's surprisingly tough and damn near bulletproof (we tried). Radiator is a gas if you pour some Skittles into it!Dec 17, 2008

I know its not new and wasn't pricey, but I love it! Its a great starter car. I even had a CD player installed and a four Jensen speakers. She has 148K miles but runs like she just came off the assembly line. I love Cavy!Apr 23, 2008

This was my first car. It was teal and I put about 30 hours of labour into it in the summer. Last week the control arm snapped and the axle tore out of the boot. The car's value didn't justify the repair. Other than that this car was good on gas and successfully got me from one place to the other for 25 000 KM. Feb 07, 2008
