An icon, a milestone achievement of Mazda at the time of its debut. But... without reliable access to resources and know how necessary to keep one running reliably, this almost 30 year old car has potential to leave you in tears. Be prepared to need to replace its RW-13b heart once it loses compression. Be prepared to love it, to give it the attention ot needs. The build quality is superb, still feels really tight even though its 17 years old, there is some wear in the door panels and the plastic squeeks a little when closing. The vehicle does have some turbo lag due to the 99 spec twin turbos running non-sequentially, however it builds max boost of 16psi at about 4k rpm. I am currently getting around 22 mpg on the highway which is adequate considering it has a Pettit racing ECU in it. Overall the FD Rx-7 is the absolute best car I have ever owned, I love it even with its high maintenance costs. Jun 26, 2010

The 7 is a love and hate relationship vehicle, if you don't maintain it the way you are supposed you will be getting a new motor sooner then you think. It requires lots of passion and plenty of research prior to purchasing this vehicle. If not, you will be getting into an expensive hobby. With the proper care the car itself is very reliable. It is like driving a monster go kart in the streets, handling and power is amazing. This is my 2nd time getting this car because I have not found any other car that moves and responds like the 7.Jun 28, 2009

Likes: Acceleration, brakes, handling. Still looks amazing 15 years later. Dislikes: Rotary engine can be costly 22k spent on a motor that went out in 8.5k miles, gas mileage was 9mpg if I wasn't on boost running of 93 octane. But it's getting an LS2 so no worries. Interior durability needs improvement. Would not recommend it to someone with little to average car knowledge, you really need to know this car before you get in over your head.Dec 05, 2008

Excellent tracking machine but horrible on gas. Once modified, they are a giant guessing game or ticking time bomb if you prefer. The rotary is an amazing creation however not for the use of daily driving. The "Cost of ownership really depends on how far you go as far as modification goes. Stock form they are not a headache but once modded heavily forget about reliability.Jul 26, 2008

I love the overall performance of the car, it's look, speed, drift handling , braking etc... It is so much faster then my built civic type r. It ran a 13.8 quarter mile bone stock on my 2nd run. NOT BAD. Not that I hate Civic's , i had one and loved it, but it's a much better investment and way faster stock and so much easyer to make extra power with than a civic.Jul 18, 2008

Mazda was extremely ahead of their time with this car. The Rx7 has a 255 hp sequential-twin-turbo 1.3 liter 2-rotor rotary engine. Though the car is 15 years old the styling is better than that of most new cars. Because of its near perfect 50-50 weight distribution is it one of the best handling cars ever made. The rx-7 is the 'truest' sports car to ever come out of Japan. That being said it is a sportscar, not a budget sports car. You will be lucky to find a running rx7 for under 15 grand. And the purchase price is just the beginning. These cars are known for being unreliable. an engine lasts anywere between 20 and 60,000 miles, rebuilding is costly, close to $2000 for parts alone. Although the sequential twin turbo system is genious, it requires a maze of solenoids and vacuum hoses to control it and is prone to failing. If you love the car enough, and have the money to take car of it, it is a great car.Jul 17, 2008

As with all sports cars, the RX-7 lacks space. Although a "4" seater, in reality it only seats 2. However, what it lacks in space it makes up in power and handling. Powered buy a sequential twin-turbocharged 13B Wankel engine, the speed is amazing with 0-60mph in 6.5 sec. The FD is on of the finest handling and balanced cars ever! Some negatives include high maintenance costs, and being a wankel it is very fuel ineffeicient (5 - 7km/l or 14 mpg).Jan 05, 2008
