1992 Toyota Previa Preview summaryImage

The 1992 Toyota Previa got a number of safety upgrades for the model year, including a driver-side airbag, a center-mounted brake light, and optional anti-lock brakes on the DLX model. These changes made the Previa the first minivan to meet all passenger-car safety requirements.

The 1992 Toyota Previa sat seven people and came in two trims, the base DLX and the well-equipped LE. Both trims came with rear-wheel drive or AllTrac, Toyota’s four-wheel drive system. The only available engine was a 2.8-liter, 138 horsepower four-cylinder. Fuel economy was about 19/22 mpg.

Despite its unusual shape, the 1992 Previa had a loyal legion of fans, many of whom are still driving their Previas today. Drivers love its car-like handling, reliability, generous amount of legroom and cargo space, and futuristic wrap-around dashboard. Owners do caution that because the engine is under the front seats, if it needs work it will be expensive.

I've taken this Previa leaving from Winnipeg Canada At 6:00 am .In the middle of Winter -15 below zero. With my Family aboard .Drove though a blizzard through the Dakotas with 10 inches of snow blowing across the interstate. With a average speed of 55 mph . And after 5hrs.On the other side of Fargo ND. With the road finally cleared up. I cruised the at a speed of 80 mph..till I got to Omaha Nebraska..Not once did I think this van would jeopardize us at any time .This van has got amazing heat . and amazing traction .No matter how cold it gets .The kids used to call it the furnace. Cause it had better heat then anybody 's we knew with a van ..It was also very comfortable for traveling . Tons of room for a family of 4.. Also its pretty quiet.. Kids would watch movies ..without headphones..Cruising at highway speeds I usually got around 20mpg to max 22mpg..Gas mileage was not one of it's good points ..The air conditioning wasn't spectacular, but it worked ok .Even in the hottest days . I drove this Previa van across Canada and across the USA several times . And I can honestly say the only problem I ever had was the Heater air cond Fan blower .And that was in kissimmee Florida ...Where I stopped at a car parts store . Ordered the part .Which they got for me within a hour . And put it in myself in a couple of hours.. This van has giving me spectacular service .And now almost 21 years of servce .I have a hard time letting go to sell it . It was pretty weird a couple of weeks ago a kid about 17 years old came up to me .After we had a huge snowfall .And I was in a shopping center parking lot ..And asked if the van I was driving was a toyota Previa .I said it was .And he wow iv'e been looking for one of those in good shape for months .Would you consider selling it . I said I didn't think guys your age would like these .He are you kidding .Id take that in a minute .I guess maybe these things are coming back in style again..I told my youngest daughter about the kid wanting the van. She looked at me as if I were nuts .And told me she would have sold in a heart beat.. Maybe It's just me and won't let go ,cause of all the good memories I have with it...Dec 11, 2012
