For 1992, Toyota discontinued the Corolla coupe. Other changes that model year included new paint color choices and the option of a four-speed automatic transmission with the LE sedan.
The 1992 Toyota Corolla came in several trim levels. The sedan came as a base, DX or LE and the wagon was available as a DX or SR5. All Corollas came equipped with a DOHC, 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine with 102 horsepower. The 1992 Corolla gets about 26-33 mpg, depending on the transmission.
Owners of the 1992 Toyota Corolla like the car for its indestructible nature, but many complain about the lack of modern features, since airbags, power windows and doors, and other safety/convenience items were either not available or only options on this car. Other drivers have had problems with the door handles snapping off.

My mom purchased this car with roughly 20k miles for my brother as his first car. It has since gone through my other brother and myself. This car went all through my high school years being severely used and abused. I personally had absolutely no mercy for this little old car. I would often take it for long hauls up and down CA, as well as daily rituals of multiple high speed racing through hair-pin turns in the foothills at what I would consider nowadays to be unsafe speeds. Even at exceptionally fast speed for such a lightweight car, this car handles like a champ. Once out of high school it became my commuter, roughly 100 miles or more per day, often times in stop and go traffic. I have only had to replace the alternator, radiator, and both front axles(due to my abuse). In my city alone I still see these early 90's corollas daily. Overall this is just a well built car. If it was only a little bit bigger I wouldn't have upgraded to my Highlander, but I love both my Toyotas :)Jan 28, 2013

The space was enough for my wife and I to camp out from the back, I got 38 MPG once on an all highway miles trip. The short nose let me see exactly where I was going and the windows were big enough to see out the back too
The only thing was really the rust which meant that the parts had to be replaced more often and since it is so old, they had to be from the dealer. It wasn't an issue for me, but it did lack the power to do well on hillsJun 07, 2012

Performance excellent, has great acceleration, it can go Zero to 60 in about 5 seconds. Braking is great. The Cost was fine but in the long run i needed to buy a new alternator. Awesome car to drive from place to place.Sep 24, 2011

I refer to this car as my first born. This car has taken me all around East africa. It
has never failed me in any way no breakdowns on the road, its extremely good on
fuel and its fairly fast its got the 4A-FE engine 1600cc engine. My intentions are to
fit the 4A-GE GT engine and disc brakes at the rear in the near future coz am not
selling it no matter the price!!!!!!!!
Some of the features in this car are not even found in modern corollas e.g Speed
sensitive central locking. Jan 13, 2011

really good gas mileage. There is no problems with the brakes except they arent as good as most. It accelerates at an acceptable pace. Has good handling. It is fun to drive. It hasn't needed any repairs since i owned it and i have only owned it for 8 months. It is a small car though.Sep 29, 2010

I love the performance of the 4AGE engine, the handling of the light little car, the direct go-kart like steering and the braking. The build quality is excellent, even being nearly 20 years old it's still like a new car! It looks great, asides from the rear tail lights that I'm not a fan of. It costs almost nothing to run, despite needing premium fuel and an oil and filter change every 5000kms. And it's sooo much fun to drive!Sep 28, 2010

buy one.reliable, cheap to run and service, lots available and doesn't look half bad with a few subtle bits added to it :)
and with good suspension (standard or otherwise), and good grippy tyres with lower sidewall wont let much put you to show on backroads...
gt and glanza turbo's, civic vtec's all beat around corners so far...waiting to meet a scooby or evo to see how it fares out hahaAug 04, 2010

had this car for 3 years now. very comfortable for a small car, handles 4 passengers without complaint.
sips gas, is prone to leak a little oil but very minor. parts are relatively cheap if you buy aftermarket/used replacement.
power windows, a/c, cruise, velour seats are all very nice features for an older car.
acceleration isnt great, passing power is almost nonexistant, but the engine hardly ever complains. leans a bit in corners but sticks to the road well. great little car.May 14, 2010

I'm still driving a Corolla 1.3L from year 1992. Even though it runs on a 2E carburated engine but the performance is superb! The engine is almost bullet proof as i constantly drive it in high speed hig revs! Can easily out-sprint most 1.6L modern cars. Sharp handling and very zippy car for it's size. Provides good fuel economy if well maintained! The only pain is that parts are hard to find and very costly. Do look out for engine oil leaks though if driven hard constantly. But leaks are not costly to repair as replacing the o-rings and oil seals will help to patch it up. The car has comfort seats but with very simple functions/features on board. Otherwise it would be a very fun car to drive!Apr 29, 2010

The ultimate crap car that gets good gas milage. Its use includes off-roading, paintball, jumping, dragging stuff, and general smashing around. It is sort of shared between me an my brother cause he's not around to claim it. This type of car is awsome to have because now I have something fun I don't have to worry too much about.Mar 28, 2010

1992 4 door liftback. 1.6i DOCH Consumes only a little gas. Cheap to buy, keep and drive. Car itself is really lightweight, so it goes faster than you would first think for 105 horsepower. Corolla might be part of the grey mass, but it's always reliable and gets you from a to b.Dec 02, 2009

Performance is ok for a corolla. Build quality is pretty good. Sometimes boot cover rattles but is an easy fix. Appearance is ok. Gas mileage is pretty good. Got 300kms on $40 of petrol. Car is a good first car (for me anyway).Nov 28, 2009

Love her to death... Only car I've had, she handles quite well, haven't had much to repair on her either, just an alternator. Still original engine, have done, I think, about 255,000Km and still going strong for a car that is 17 years old.Oct 14, 2009

Bought the Corolla with 14k miles on it in 1993. It now has
181k miles on it. A friend bumped it into reverse at 20mph a
few years ago and it was only last week that the transmission
finally needed replacement. The car has needed a new
distributor, alternator and thermostat over the years, and the
driver door handle is made of weak plastic that has broken
off, but no major complaints about the car. It regularly gets
30+ mpg, but accelleration is pretty slow unless you really
want to punch the gas pedal. It accellerates to 40mph
remarkably quickly, but 40-60 is where it is slow. It can get
pretty loud in the cabin at highway speeds but I don't mind.
The brakes are non-abs but i've never had a problem with
them, even in the snow. They provide good stopping power
and if you want to have a little fun in the snow, they're great
for that too!Aug 03, 2009

This car does not know about the word die... 417 000 km's on the clock! It needs an engin transplant... Mabe a 1600? I drive about R1500 a month on petrol. This car is halarious to drive, apart from banging the window to close, the white noise the radio makes when you put the heater on, and the constant chirping of some loose bolt.... May 22, 2009

My car, aka Christine, still chugs along, even though it is 17+ years old, and does the odd low level flying when required. Hoe rooier, hoe mooier! Engine just blew again the other day. She does need a lot of TLC though.Apr 20, 2009

It's fun to drive and it's a toyota so it's pretty indestructable! It has a new exhaust system and intake system so it has more horses than before plus it has a "Police Interceptor" badge as well as a "GTR" badge which both mean nothing at all. It has new brakes and is cheap to maintain. Good shifting and does get me through 60 mph traffic at 80!Aug 31, 2008

Well i loved every aspect of my car the looks, power, ride and the fuel economy. She was deep red and had light blue tint, set of 15" rims. Went like a dream and never gave me a problem. All i had to do was service her every ten thousand kms... :)
Performance : DOHC 16V Toyota Engine
Appearance : Repair needed to only my bumper.
Cost to Maintain : Very cheap
Fun Factor : It was a total head turner
I would recommend it, if u can find one!!!Aug 18, 2008

Following 5 months ownwership and only 105,000 miles on the car, the automatic transmission needs to be replaced. For a person with little car repair knowledge, the $2800 estimate for fixing this problem is a huge price tag.Nov 18, 2007

Trying to buy an ECU for my 1992 Toyota Corolla Seca. Was wondering if an ECU from a 1997 Corolla would fit and work in my car. Both the original and the new ECU that I'm looking at have the same code: 7AFE. Please help as soon as possible. Many thanks
I need to know if an ECU from a 1997 Toyota corolla would fit into my 1992 Toyota Corolla Seca. Sorry if I have asked this before, it's not showing up on my account.
I recently purchased a 1992 corolla and replaced the valve cover gasket but still have a significant oil leak. The oil seems to come from the vicinity of the timing belt, and puddles under the car below the transmission pan. Does anyone know where the common oil leaks are in this car, and can anyone help me pin down the site of the leak? Thanks
