1992 4Runner Oil Pressure
I recently purchased a 1992 4Runner 4WD 3.0 with 145k miles. When I crank it the oil pressure is good at idle. When I start driving down the road, the pressure drops.

1992 Toyota 4Runner -
- Engines: 2.4L inline 4cyl/115hp, 3.0L V6/150hp
- Transmissions: auto or 5spd manual
- 4wd system: part time 4wd, ADD (Automatic disconnecting differential), hi/low range transfercase, open differentials
- 5 passenger capacity
- various trim levels available, PW, PDL, A/C etc.
- power steering
- power brakes (front discs, rear drums) with rear ABS
- power rear window with tailgate
- rear seats fold flat
Strengths: very reliable powertrain, both 4cyl and V6, good off road (ie: ground clearance, approach & departure angles), tough suspension, ADD works well
Weaknesses: 4cyl underpowered, V6 has poor fuel economy for 150hp, rear power window may stop working and is expensive to fix.
Before buying: check rear power window, check to see that V6 head gasket has been replaced under factory recall.

She's currently in the "fix-up" status but she will be great when I'm done with her. She handles great at slower speeds (she is 21 years old..). Love the tail-gate, and the rear lowering window. Not a looker, but I plan to drive the americas with it, so the red door and minor rust will have me fitting in a little better as a gringo.Dec 01, 2013

I love everything about this car. It takes me where i want to go with comfortable seating all around. I like to take it off road with my kids and just have fun. The only bad part is that it doesnt get great gas mileage.Mar 10, 2013

I just blew the second head gasket in six months. It is under powered and handles terribly.It get horrible fuel milege. The rear engine oil seal is going bad so the truck leake oil when I park it. There is always a big puddle of oil where ever I park. This has turned out to be one of the worst cars I have ever owned!Sep 22, 2009

As I said before my truck needs some work done under the hood and the front wheel bearings possibly replaced, but it's a reliable piece of machinery. I find it perfect for off- roading when I'm visiting relatives out on the rez.Aug 02, 2009

i like the amount of space, cup holders it gets a decent
23 mpg can hold its own offroad even though it is
almost completely stock, i dont likr the electric rear
window and it is rather under powered but i can ask
for much more given it has 385,000km and has no

The 1992 V6, 4WD 4Runner Tun is a gre3at word for this vehicle, it is an absolutely wonderful vehicle to drive in town or off road. Toyota trucks and SUV are outstanding in terms of rarely is it in the shop if you take standard care of it, it is extremely responsive and comfortable (I am only 5'6", but for a larger person it can be quite cramped, at least my 92 4Runner is). The interior and exterior hold up very well, & I expect them to urn in wel excess of 200000 miles if you take care of them. HOWEVER, The 1992 Toyota 4Runner is extremely under powered, even with the V6. Excelleration is not very good, average gas millage driving in town is maybe 14.5 m.g. or worse. Road maybe 16 - 16.5 miles per gallon (I have an automaatic Trans with power everthing)Towing my light aluminum 17' fish and sky boat is really a challenge - excelleration is awful, gas millage drops to around 6 miles per gallon - not accetptable. However, they are extremely solid and should do great in an accident, trave throuh the back crountry in Arizon like a mountain goat. Ride is excellent - everything is excellent except gas milage and power or lack of it). I would HIGHLY recommend the Toyota 4 Runner to just about anyone, but I recommend purchasing the 1992, 1993, and 1901 models. I would rather drive my 4Runner than my full size 2002 Ford crew cab diesel truck, and it is an outstanding vehicle also.Dec 26, 2008

just a normal car, got wht it needs to be js a car had to change the whole engine for sum reason so is kinda peaked. cool hankook performance tire got a a good grip. costs js over SR 20k , clothe interior, two tone color on the outside green n silver.god mileage.and feels like a jeep!#$ :PAug 23, 2008

Own this truck and love it. it has the 22RE motor so its amazing on gas. its very stable in the winter with all the weight over the rear axle giving you tons of traction. very fun to drive even though its under powered. a good trail machine. amazing in the snow, mud, rocks, sand, and anyware else you might put it. I had the Medalist Edition that came with factory wheel flares, rear spoiler with LED brake lights,air,leather,AM/FM tape and CD player in other words it was loaded.
The gas milage was the pits and as for exceleration forget it but it was VERY reliable and was in the shop only for regular maintanence and the recall on the head gasket.Oct 13, 2006
