I am the second owner of a 1992 stealth base model. I was luckier than most as mine was a 1 owner vehicle that came with a complete service history folder the size of two phone books and it had under 100,000 miles. Seven years later and another 100,000 miles have passed. It has suffered from two altenator failures, (the hardest thing on the car to fix, due to its location) two new batteries, a clutch slave and master cylinder, several tires, lots of Castrol syntec until they changed the name, a radio failure, belts, hoses and air filters as needed, one cv axle, a light accident that dented the passenger side fender and broke the front indicator lens (AIG auto insurance said it was totalled and was going to take my car if I made a claim!) Also the repeated wear of two, then three, kids. As it is barely a four seater, it was useless as a family car after our third child was born, and barely adequate when our oldest turned 10. Overall, I can't recommend this car for somebody who doesn't know how to do basic maintenance, and it's definitely not a good first car for somebody. The 1992 model is over 20 years old now, and deserves some respect. So, if you're a boy racer or thinking of modifying one, please look elsewhere. There are very few that have remained stock like mine, and if you are looking for one, beware the modded ones. They have probably been poorly assembled and thrashed to death! Pay no more than $1200 for a broken home modified as you will probably need to replace the engine and transmission and the body may be twisted. Professionally modified should command top dollar only if it is purchased from the mod shop, if it has been used since the pro-mod, assume it is in the same condition as a rusty 400,000 mile Toyota corolla! Pure stock versions should be checked thoroughly as it may have been owned by someone who doesnt know where the oil goes. Most importantly, look for documentation! If there are reciepts and documentation, you know what needs to be done and what has been done. Also remember, original parts are expensive and hard to find as most modders chucked them when they did their thing.Mar 14, 2013

The Stealth was a unique car back in the day. I can't say it was the most reliable (i.e. oil leak, brakes, etc) but it got me where I needed to go safely. The replacement parts for this car are fairly inexpensive also, which made the repairs manageable.Sep 06, 2012

So far since I've had this car, its been very reliable and wall maintained from the previous owner (95,067 original miles). I love the fact that it has the power when I need it, but also a good over all drive. The only thing that kind of erks me is the fact that the back seats are pretty much non-functional. The space in the hatch is pretty much useless too. Now I know its a sports car first and everything else second so it doesn't bug me too much.Apr 11, 2012

A perfect example of a Japanese "GT" car. This car handles well, has excellent power, hauls enough cargo to make it useful as a daily driver and fun vehicle, and looks excellent. Picked this up to replace the MR2 and was delighted to find one from Arizona in such great shape. For a 20 year old vehicle, build quality is top notch. Oct 26, 2011

Overall, I'm happy to have purchased the car. I've never owned a sports car before this, and it was a good first choice. Obviously, the drawbacks are the high costs of maintaining the vehicle, and the fact that it only gets about 18miles to a gallon on the street. But, when you drive it around and you feel like your back in 1992, the time machine aspect makes all the worry about owning such a mechanically despised car disappear. I've literally fallen in love with the car. Sep 23, 2011

acceleration is fast and the maintenance on this car is kinda expensive but what do
you expect from a car that is almost 20 years old but the car is a blast to drive and
it doesn't get to bad of gas mileage either.Sep 01, 2011

I really enjoy this car. I love the stance that it has when you see it driving
down the road, and he horsepower that it has when you need it. It has
great acceleration and handling, but lacks somewhat in braking power,
mainly because of the rotors that I have on the car. The car just looks
good coming towards you on the road, and sounds great when it goes by
you. Apr 12, 2011

I purchased this car on in late September 2006 with 50,800 miles on it.
The Stealth was produced from 1991-1996 and shares the same
platform/interior/engine from the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, which
endured until 1999. This car was way ahead of its time. It featured all
wheel drive, twin turbos, twin intercoolers, passive rear wheel steering,
digital climate control, adjustable exhaust note, adjustable suspension,
cd player, and power everything. 300hp/307lbs torque.

I like for sure the AWD, the handling, the speed, the look of the car and of course the looks I get for driving the car, the simple upkeep, the sound of the engine purring... what more can I say... He's amazing!Nov 03, 2010

The car is a great car.It handles great. it has a sport supension underneath it. It has a 3.0L V-6 DOHC puttin out at least 220HP. It has a 5-SPEED transmission. It has four wheel disc breaks so the stopping power is great. It has only needed jus the basic repairs for a 18 year-old car. it gets great gas milage for bein a sports car. and u get this car on some windy roads u will have yourself one hell of a time. It is very fun to drive Apr 11, 2010

I've owned the R/T Turbo since '91...pristine, 60K miles, keep getting offers to sell it. Acceleration is still scary when you put the "pedal to the metal" even after almost 19 years! Spends a lot of time in the garage these days. Handling is superb. Most cons have been already covered. I had trouble from day one with computer...hesitation when engine cold. Took over 12 years and two replacements before it was resolved. Mechanics don't know much about this car. It's not a family car for sure. Mar 14, 2010

Fastest car for the time, great acceleration, sleeper,
expensive to fix once it broke down, the appearance was
amazing, It was so much fun to own a car like this, and loved

This car handles like a dream. It will take corners will no body roll and the engine is 18 years old never rebuild DOHC, not a sputter and strong as hell. Leaks a bit but thats common. Reliable car despite the fact its a DSM. The parts hold together well beside the vents the interior is good quality.Nov 06, 2009

It bad ass and rare and has a ton of potential. Plus
think it is one of the best looking cars on the road.
Love that most people don't even have a clue what it is
and they think its new even though its a 1992. Sep 18, 2009

One of the best and most fun cars I have ever owned. Performance was unequalled for the price range and even some above. The AWD, the all wheel steering, and twin turbos make this car a blast to drive, especially on curvy roads!Sep 14, 2009

My car is a nice lookin car!! its in great condition and is very
fast! 0-60 in 5 sec. umm so the only downer is that it takes
premium unleaded gas only which is rather expensive and to
add on to that it has to have an octane of 91 or higher.Aug 19, 2009

This stealth is great...it was sitting for about 2 years, but it is now up and running...and mighty amazingly I might add. It is not a 3000GT but is pretty freaking close enough for me. :) I cannot wait to get this thing 100% ready to drive on the road...it is going to be SWEET!!!!May 26, 2009

Overall the car is great, I love the way it looks and I also love the way I know it can perform, unfortunately, there's a knock in this one's engine so it's not nearly 100% hopefully I can figure out what to do soon.May 05, 2009

The Stealths and 3000GTs are beautiful but they come with a price. The electrical wiring degrades over time and creates starting problems and whatnot. They are sports cars. Even the base models need to be taken care of as sports cars. The interior is definitely the best design I've seen yet. Everything is placed perfectly inside it. It's a cockpit. All in all, I recommend the upper models (R/T, R/T TT, VR-4, SL), teh back seats are good for a bag of groceries and the body styling is beautiful. Sep 03, 2008

Owned this car for over years and I still fall in love with it everytime I drive it! I will probably never get rid of it! This car has the best of all worlds, turbo power, all wheel driver handling and absolute luxery inside. A treat to drive every time.Sep 03, 2008

This is my baby and I have owned her for over 5 years and she is good on gas, great on performance, and amazing on looks. I have rarely had to repair anything on her. Just normal maintenance. I need to repair one window motor but that is it. She is quick on acceleration, holds corners well, and tops at 265km/h. She looks amazing inside and out.
I would recommend this car for daily fun driving to and from work, or whatever. Just not the car for offroad. That is why I own a jeep tj.Aug 23, 2008

The Base model doesn't offer the fun power that the r/t or ES do, but it is still fun to drive and catches many eyes in the process. The back seat is limited and don't plan on bringing much cargo anywhereMay 02, 2008

Ilove my Stealth. I just wish I could find a reliable mechanic to to keep the thing running in top performance Apr 04, 2008
Gorgeous 92' Stealth R/T TT AWD, really fun to drive, fast as hell, looks great while doing it, downsides come with age and adding power to it. The one I drove puts 300 hp to the tires, it has had 3 transfer cases, two clutches, it goes through about a case of power steering fluid in 3 to 10 days depending on how often its driven, the power makes it unable to drive in snow.Mar 17, 2008

It started as a non turbo R/T model. I converted it to FWD TT and used an AWD Getrag transmission converted FWD. I parted the car out after a spun bearing in the engine.Feb 04, 2008

The Dodge Stealth, twin brother to the Mitsubishi 3000GT was a sports car sold from 1991-1996 for Dodge and 1991-1999 for Mitsubishi. The car came in several trims, with the top and most expensive trim being the R/T TT. I own a 1992 R/T TT. The car is extremely solid, weighing in at a little over 3,800 lbs. The car is very low to the ground, and can be felt when traveling eye-level with the wheels of an 18-wheeler. Power comes from a 3.0 liter DOHC 24 valve V6 Twin Turboed, Twin Intercooled engine producing 300hp and 307 ft/lb of torque. This engine, with help from the AWD, is able to push the car from 0-60 in the low 5's and the quarter mile in the low 14's. The 5 speed gearbox that is supplied by Getrag is strong. The car has 4 wheel steering, with the rear wheels pivoting a few degrees at speeds over 30 mph. The Stealth R/T has electronically controlled suspension with two modes; tour and sport, that can be controlled by the driver. Also, the stealth has an active exhaust system, allowing the driver to control the amount of exhaust flowing out of the dual, quad tipped exahust system. Inside, the car has several luxurious features including leather seats with power bolsters and lumbar support and electronic climate control. There are also two foldable seats in the rear. Security system and driver airbag are standard on the R/T. Jan 26, 2008
My auto trans is now stuck in seems to be 2nd gear , I have reverse , when accelerating it will start in second gear and stay there , will not shift. Very low miles on entire car 40K any advice greatly appreciated. I tried to reset the ECM by disconnecting battery cables but no luck.
I have a 92 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo. It was running pretty rough and finally threw a check engine light for the crank position sensor. Bought a new one and changed it, trying to put it in exactly how it came out, and now it won't even start. Even put the old one back in to see if it would go back, but no luck getting it to start again. What did I do wrong, or any advise to get it back to at least starting?
