All Models of the W124, from 1985-95 were quite possibly the finest cars ever made. Everything that would make a car the best, this era of Mercedes-Benz had. No car Ive had before or sense could compare. After Mercedes-Benz bought Chrysler they learned how to make luxury cars cheaply. The quality went down and the price went up. The following generations of Mercedes-Benz were imitations of what they once were. I wouldnt buy todays Mercedes-Benz.Aug 25, 2020

What can I add that hasn't already been written about the iconic W124 Mercedes-Benz? These cars were big, heavy, overbuilt, solid, and would run all day long at 100 mph without batting an eye...unless the local constable wasn't in a good mood. The ride was smooth and luxurious, the power kept on and on, and the parts were ridiculously expensive and you had to know someone named Klaus or Fritz or Hans to get it worked on.Apr 16, 2014

Although I don't have kids nor typically have passengers, I prefer a wagon to an SUV so I can do mobile repairs and have the room to haul my tools without sacrificing mpg. The added benefit is the 4MATIC system since it does snow here at least 4 months out of the year. The added 3rd row seat that folds down with the 2nd row seats for more than enough room for a large jack, jack stands, and tools. If need be, the 2nd row seat splits so you can accommodate an extra passenger while having plenty of storage space. Although dated the 3.0 straight six has plenty of torque, reliability, and accelerates quickly because of the 3.07 or 3.27 (IIRC) differential ratio.Jun 14, 2012

This is the first year of the aluminum head six-cylinder OM-603 Turbo Diesel engine in the W124 body style. The first of the E-Class cars sold in the US. I learned pretty quick what they mean by "not like any other car." Awesome build quality and a great ride for a 20+ year old car. The Diesel engine is strong a clatters like a locomotive! Excellent acceleration from 2000rpm, good brakes handles well but it does need small repairs once in a while. I like both the in- and exterior but the exteriour looks kind of boring original, it needs new lights and wheels to achieve its potential :P gas mileage is very good for a 3 liter... about 1,2-1,4liters/10km. parts are expencive from Mercedes but there are a lot of aftermarket parts for the car. Decent speed (8.5 0-60, 220 BHP), excellent braking, handling a bit soft on stock springs. No squeaks or rattles. I have replaced a few things only for cosmetic or precautionary reasons, only once necessary (20 yr old alternator, can't blame it) . Classic styling, though some may see it as outdated. US spec lights are ugly, I would suggest buying Euro-spec lights or 94-95 US lights + headlight wiper deletion. Interior is simple, elegant, and comfortable. Very modern for its day. Maintenance next to nothing unless you are really picky and want it to be like new (like me). Gas mileage not great -16-18 mpg in mixed driving, 12-14 when driven hard. Car is faster than the average car on the road, kickdown switch makes the auto-transmission come alive. Driving a piece of history. Lots of fun if the car is in good nick.Oct 19, 2009

It could accelerate pretty well now. Braking could be a factor. It handles pretty well though, even on a mountain curve or two. It drifts pretty well on slick areas. I would say it's just pretty heavy for the most part. The brakes, belts, sensors, and right control arm needs to be changed as well as various other parts that I don't want to list at the moment. When it's done, it'll be really awesome to drive around.Oct 13, 2009

Alright, this is the first car I've owned. The motor's nothing special, but it still gets you where you're going if you floor it. The only problem's I've really had with it so far is that at one point, the gas pedal assembly broke, which messed up the kick-down system, but that's just going to be a quick fix. Interior, the leather looks really good, but I had to remove the floor carpet at one point because the driver's side window had started to leak. It's a pretty fun car to drive, not too sure about the top speed because I'm a bit too "legal" for that, but the acceleration from stopped is a pretty fun thing to experience, for a luxury car anyway. Gas mileage is decent, I get about 21 right now with daily driving. One thing you have to worry about is damaged part, since they run quite a bit for some components. Regardless, a solid car that will stay running and keep you going.Aug 24, 2008

This model is the second generation of the w124 series , it is actually as 230E (car IQ had this model missing) , 4 cylinder electronic injected petrol engine mated to a 4 speed semi-automatic gearbox. made with lots of chrome on the outside , plus side skirt cladding which replaces the previous model's black strip , is done to give a two tone finish , all complete with mirrors coloured the same as vehicle exterior. Mercedes retained the amber indicator lights both front and behind as well as the full chrome grille. The interior decadently decorated with Blue leather , and carpet to match. centre console made primarily with wood grain , and wood grain door inserts to match for all passengers. Dual Zone climate control - that is computer controlled is included keeping occu[ants at maximal comfort. Seating is well spaced at the rear and up front. Seats are fully padded under the skin , which make journeys weather long or short very very comfortable - one very big advantage. Full electrics. The driver is given , a semi automatic gearing to play with , quite a large leather stearing wheel - bearing the three pointed star - in the middle. Complemented by 6 different guages on the intrument cluster - fuel , temp , oil pressure and economy on the left - then speedometer in the middle , trip meter and tachometer on the right Plus clock . An additional 8 pilot lights are made available to monitor the car's vital signs if such a situation arises. Acceleration is very very smooth , this series had 2nd gear take off , but should you need a quicker take off , make sure you plant your foot a lil harder to take off in 1st. Handling , is exceptional with double wish bone suspension both rear and in front , coupled with a limited slip diff computer controlled for stability. Brake power is assisted with ABS , which is like dropping and anchor ten times the weight of the beast its self. Overall a very veyr nice car to drive , one of class and decadence , uber luxurious interior bearing the genes of previous models. Being an econimical 2.3L 4 cylinder - it delivers ample power and guzzling efficiently it is a car that can be used every day. Sadly it is the last model which mercedes-benz had OVER ENGINEERED , the next series used a lot more plastic , cutting corners somewhat and even worse is the one after that. Jun 09, 2008
