Nice design (Mazda was trying to copy the Porsche 944 with this model style), good handling, decent performer with the 160 HP Wankel / Rotary engine. Hatchback provided decent trunk space, well laid out interior (no glitzy electronic nonsense). Reliable, if maintained properly. Hard to maintain rotary engine which gobbles up oil and needs a mechanic well versed in the Wankel engine to keep it running at its peak. No airbags, no ABS, no traction/stability control. side mirrors don't fold (someone smacks into them = automatic replacement). So-so factory paint...lots of fading and lots of cracking on the red spoiler (it was rubber, I think)Jun 30, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed owning this car, despite having to put a second rotary engine in it. It was really quick,light, and had perfect weight balance. It revved to the moon, and with the added Racing Beat header and HKS cat delete exhaust, it sounded bad ass. That setup caused 3ft flames to shoot out of the tailpipes on hard up-shifts! I ended up selling it because it was getting wore out, the chassis started creaking and stuff when pushing it in corners.Aug 18, 2009

The rotary engine is by far the most abusable engine ever made as long as you maintain it. The rev-happy 13b is a spirited drive and capable of serious horsepower when ported and properly tuned. The sleek and sexy body style of the 2nd generation FC3S has limitless design potential and a healthy array of after market body kits and accessories. Definitely a must for those car enthusiasts out there!! Performance wise the acceleration, breaking, and handling are outstanding. I am currently running on Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s in the rear which give it great power to the floor and creates amazing handling. There is an upgraded flywheel, so the acceleration has increased. The drilled rotors and steel brake lines greatly increase the breaking power. The build quality of this car (especially for a 17 yr old) is amazing. I'm currently sitting on 250k+ miles on the chassis and its still solid. Of course with so many miles there are bound to be fixes here and there. Lucky for me, when I purchased from a private party, most of the suspension have been redone with Racing Beat and Tokico parts. They have been solid for the time I've had my car so far. Appearance of the car is superb!! I'm still rocking the original Blaze Red paint from the factory floor. The red gives it an aggressive look since there aren't that many truly red cars out there. Interior is spotless. There are no cracks on the dash and its a black on black which gives it that nocturnal look that I like. Definitely a plus when driving at night. Cost of Ownership can be steep. It IS a rotary engine of which, when not taken care of can cost a pretty penny. The engine burns up oil to help lubricate the motor and to run efficiently needs to be on 91 octane (which of course we all know can be costly). The gas mileage is pretty low around 15-17 mpg, but because of the modified parts mainly, and probably my driving style :P. However, if you're really good with services, I don't really see a problem with this car. Fun Factor is through the roof!! This is a high revving engine, with a redline at 8000RPM. The torque isn't as great, and is pretty slow off the line; however, when you punch it after 3500RPM the car shows its true potential. I have mentioned before the handling is amazing, even more so at high speeds. It's a great car to drive. I strongly recommend this car if you want a challenge and a weekend warrior (especially if you purchase the turbo edition).Sep 15, 2008

I love this car! I have wanted an RX-7 project car for 2 years now, and I finally got one cheap to refurbish a bit. I'm having a lot of fun and learing a lot with it. My car was not in the best shape when I bought it, but my friend's is MINT, and is a VERY reliable car to own. The rotary engine is very nice, and is not half as scary as people think, it is just touchy about scheduled maintenance and does not like to be neglected. I love my car, and will keep it as long as I can.Jul 04, 2008

A unique 2 seater sports coupe powered by mazda's wankel rotary engine. Plenty of aftermarket support, easily customizable and fun. Excellent handling and lots of potential as a track car or high performance street car when placed in the right hands. Rear wheel drive, front engine configuration, nearly 50/50 weight distribution. This car is powered by a 13b rotary engine. Thats right a whopping 1300cc's. Now before you go laughing at me you better realize the rotary engine in this car has the highest power to displacement ratio of any N/A (Naturally Apsirated) engine ever built. I currently own a 1993 Mazda MX-6 and after driving the 1991 RX-7 back-to-back with my MX-6, the RX-7 is so far ahead of MX-6 its not even funny. Handling is amazing, ride quality is stiff (but what do you expect, its a sports car), acceleration is good (faster then my MX-6 2.5L V6) with the 1.3 L Rotary but would be very fast with a turbo. General driving was great, with an amazing short-throw 5 speed gearbox. The car is well laid out with a hatchback rear design for more space and a sunroof to let more light in. The interior for a 17 year old car is better looking and more comfortable than most brand new cars on the market (yes, far better than a new supercharged cobalt). Overall I would rate this car a 9 out of 10 because its so much fun to drive and its very well put together. Gas mileage is about the only downside to the car being a rotary engine with an 8,000 rpm redline. I would recommend this car to anyone!Dec 30, 2007
