1988 Toyota 4Runner Preview summaryImage

Like all of the first generation of the SUV, the 1988 Toyota 4Runner was a great truck for its time, but continues to be popular due to its ability to be modified and improved. The fiberglass top comes off, and the performance of the engine is relatively easy to enhance as well.

Modifications aside, the 1988 debuted the most powerful engine the 4Runner had known: a 3.0-liter V6 3VZ-E. This was the first six cylinder engine offered by Toyota for it SUV. A new transmission and transfer case came with the bigger engine.

Well not sure how it is stock but my setup was great! Decent gas mileage. Not a lot of power but enough to do the job I wanted. Lots of room in the front seats and back seats. Removable back top was great for the summer weather. No matter what I came acrossed this thing could handle it, snow, ice, mud, sand, rocks, this rig conqured all. Have no complaints with this rig other then it's a little noisy on the highway and the police really didn't like it. I would definitely own another again, I regret getting rid of it!Mar 31, 2014

She's pretty great. Came with 250,000 miles on her. Just took the motor apart to change the timing belt and it was clean as a whistle! New owner to anything besides Volkswagen for the most part and so far pretty stoked on it. Jul 21, 2011

I LOVE this truck! It has 322k miles and I still use it to drive my family of 5 to the beach, take them camping, get 20-23 mpg, and it goes everywhere. Since it had vertually no rust, I had it repainted and it looks like new!!!! Oct 10, 2010
