The 1986 Honda Civic got some overhauls this year, perhaps most visible were that all its models received flush-mounted headlights that made it easy for all who knew cars to distinguish the 1986 Civics from the older version.
Other changes were designed to psychologically appeal to the family crowd, no longer able to fit into tiny sports cars. The Civic hatchback was now offered as an Si model, with much of the CRX sports performance, but more room for more people. It even included a glass sunroof that could be removed and a roof spoiler.
There was a recall of some 1986 Honda Civics because the drive shaft on the left side might develop cracks near the outer joint. But it was also around this time that modifying one's Civic became rather commonplace, in part due to interchangeability of parts and in part because it was an easy car to modify to help one stand out a bit. A favorite mod was the City Turbo engine, which fit nicely into several models and offered a areal increase in power-to-weight ration, thus really enhancing performance.

January 8, 2008It is a Honda. It is fun to drive. The fuel mileage was, at one road trip, about 50 MPG. The usual mileage was about 35. This kind of economy is way ahead of its time. The real value of this car is the handling. Also, noteworthy: it is reliable.

November 22, 2013This yellow beauty is sought after by many car enthusiasts for its auto-crossing heritage. The solid rear axel and the overall light weight of the car make it perfect for moving around cones or small children on tricycles. However, with its weak and carbed engine, this thing takes a while to get to speed. It is in fact so slow, there is no tachometer. Mod away and you get a rocket. Drop a B16 into it and you have a ten second machine.
April 15, 2008I didn't actually do this... it was a great little car, still going (after being written off at least three times and almost half a million kilometers later). Apparently it handled better than the porsches of the same year (1986).
January 17, 2008Fun little retro runabout! super easy to drive, faster than a Mini or a VW Beetle but more economical than both of them, enough room to do anything with it, sounds like an automatic hair dryer and the parts are like rocking horse poo, but it puts such a big smile on your face, its all worth it.

Add a black dashboard, S2000 Start button, 3G Prelude Si Seats, and this is one of the most unique 3G Civics on the road.
November 18, 2009Has a 1.5L carborated engine. It moves. You can pretend to be a ricer if needed. It is very reliable and always works.
April 25, 2008My first car. I owned one from january to may 2001. During that time the car was reliable. And had a quite nice engine. But the car was about 15 years old at that time and that fact was smellable. Aswell as the springs were bad as some other parts aswell.
