The 1985 Toyota Corolla remained unchanged from the 1984 version, when several changes were introduced, including a new engine and some new trim levels.
The 1985 Toyota Corolla came in many body styles with several trim levels. The two- and four-door sedan came as a standard, DX or LE. The coupe came as an SR5 or GT-S. The wagon came as a standard or DX. The liftback came as a SR5 and a GT-S. The engine was a 1.6-liter DOHC or a 1.8-engine. Fuel econmy is about 30 mpg.
There are many 1985 Corolla enthusiasts who say that the car is better than anything being made currently. Drivers like how well it corners, but complain that acceleration is slow. Most popular are the rear-wheel drive GT-S models, which enthusiasts use in road races.

Great little car with only 88k miles. It’s in good shape and was like old times driving a 1985 model. One car owner, low miles, can’t beat that. If your looking for an airbag and automatic windows this isn’t the car for you. Time to get out your cassettes Nov 05, 2021

It's iconic. It makes me feel like an individual instead of just one of the sheep; I'm able to handle its routine maintenance and it is very economical to operate; it handles pretty well and accelerates even better; it gets great gas mileage; it only costs me $225.00 a year to insure; not a month rolls by when some young guy doesn't leave a note on my windshield or strike up a conversation with me and offers to buy it. AE86 Corolla GTS, it was my all time favorite car when i was teenager, in fact i
still love this car!!! It equipped with a 4AGE 1.6L engine, rear wheel drive, with
the TVIS Toyota variable intake system, the air intake will increase at 4350rpm,
engine sound will be more fierce after the 4350rpm mark. Acceleration is kind of
slow, brake is ok, and handling was outstanding due to good balance of the
car, i love to keep full throttle entering the corner (due to it is underpower),
and the car can drift a little bit out of the corner which you will never got this
experience from a FWD Civic. The build quality is good, i used my AE86 as a
part time courier car, it had done over 180000miles on it without any major
problem. The styling is good, it looks like it never got old. Gas mileage is great.
Its just so fun to drive this little car! I owned three AE86 during my teenager

i forgot to mention i have a mr2 steering rack. the drifing on this car is reliable
and great. stays sideways and burns out great. my bf runs through tires from
drifting. small corners to big corners.
interior is good and decent. seats are good condition, dash has minor cracks.
has all interior pieces. exterior is good. small dents, i havent had an accident,
thankfully to damage the body. there is however a fender dent where it bends
with the door. all my corollas have had this from previous owners.
i bought this car for 500 plus a Nintendo Wii. it wasnt even running completely.
we towed it from Sw of SAn antonio,texas near marbach and pushed it with my
01 cavalier to the south east taking pack streets..... took a looong time.a bout

The car has a good sporty feel to it when you step on the throttle around the corners. Since it was a rival for the eg-6 civic and they were made to be sporty, i'd say that it has good build quality since nothing has broken yet for me. Its white and black making it look like a panda which is cute. The interior looks really gloomy but thats not a problem. It gets 34mpg which is really amazing since its a really old car. The maintence is pretty cheap since its japenese which is the most reliable compared to the american and european cars. Its very fun to drive when you want it to be fun.Jul 04, 2011

Unless you get a good one (which would be hard these days) you should expect to have to fix/repair worn out parts. If you can get over this, however, I would strongly recommend this car as it provides mountains of fun for cheap. It's light so it gets good gas mileage as well. The 1885 toyota corolla GTS has lots of power for a small vehicle and the year it was built in. It's lots fun to drive and very reliable. There is a lot of performance parts that can make the car taster. It is also a great drifting car.Feb 19, 2010

I've always been a fan of Corollas. Great fuel-efficient car. Decent power: this one actually felt like it had a stronger automatic transmission than my '01. Very fun car to drive: excellent daily commuter for short trips. Not as comfy on long trips as my '01, but not too bad.Feb 18, 2010

I just love everything about it 200,000 miles and still going. Paint still looks good and everything works sunroof, pop up lights. Great performance. Have put about 1000.00 into it. Gas mileage couldn't be better. Interior seats didn't hold up as good as I would have liked.Feb 04, 2010

Toyota Corolla GTS which is same as the AE86. 125hp engine with very very light body. I bought one for $1200 and ripped all the interior to make it a much lighter car. Recaro seat, HKS intake, TRD exhaust, gasket kit, gears, suspension kit, bars...a very fun car to drive with..Dec 30, 2009

this is my new AE86, this one is a GTS version, my last one was a SR5, what makes it a GTS is that it has the fuel injected DOHC engine, LSD, and rear disc brakes. I plan on turning this into a track car. I havn't decided what to do with the engine yet, either pull it out, and put a 20v engine in it, or maybe build a 1jz for it, or I could just rebuild that 4AGE with high compression pistons, and individual throttle bodies, I havn't decided.Nov 03, 2009

Acceleration is slow but peaky. Braking is ok, handles great. Build quality? It's a Toyota! Of course, it'll be great. For a 20 yr old car, of course, it'll need repairs and has alot of squeaks and rattles. I love how it looks... For a 20 yr old car.. Good gas mileage and cheap to maintain.. - performance: sangat sangat oke. dari mesin standart 4a-ge twincam 16 valve bertenaga sekitar 130 hp sangat bagus. walaupun jaman dulu tetep bagus. apalagi kalau diganti dengan mesin dari ae111 4a-gte "silver top" racikan TRD team.
- BuildQuality: sangat balance. stabil saat tikungan. saat digunakan untuk drifting sangat stabil
- Appearance: tampilan pun tidak kalah menarik. saat ini mobil ini sangat terkenal dan banyak dicari. karena dari anime initial d ataupun sang keiichi tsuchiya seorang drifter handal asal jepang yg menyukai mobil ini
- Cost of Ownership: untuk bensin terbilang irit 1:9. untuk spareparts agak susah karena sudah langka.

Its sloooow but I still enjoy it. I bought it cause it was cheap and convenient. It was probably bound for the wreckers and justly so, but I've kept it alive and keep making it better all the time. Its light and fun to throw around the twisties, though you do sit with your foot down waiting for it to go faster. Its problematic at times because its getting older now at almost 330,000kms. I bought this car to be turned into a drift car. I know its not as sleek as an S15 or my FD3S but atleast its somthing I can take to autocrossing and drifting and track days and know if I post a good time it was all me and not some magical awd system or computer control system. Love this car, deffinately not the car for picking up chicks but i feel soo in touch when i drive it. Its easy to get it sideways and keep it sideways. handling is responsive for a 25 yr old car, its light weight makes it nimble. The engine in this thing revs up fast, very reliable but lacks in the torque department. Its noisy, ride sucks, and the car could use some power

Great learner car for the great art of Drifting. Suspension is the only true weakness but that can be upgraded. The 4age engine is invincible and with disk brakes on front and rear it has excellent braking. All in all, a very fun little RWD carDec 19, 2007

My model does not have a charcoal canister. South Africa model. There is a large pressure escape when opening the filler cap. The cap is a solid bayonet type.The problem is that on manily very hot days there is a irregular engine hiccup/splutter, which I suspect to be as a cause of the pressure build up in the tank. Why does the filler neck have a bypass port, which seems to go back into the tank. The diagrams I am able to get from the internet are not very revealing.
