My mom had two Renaults R5 of the first generation. The first one was an orange-brownish mid 70ies R5 TL. We had it for many years as her second car and I drove it up and down the driveway as a teenager. When the car didn't pass the technical control because of structural rust, it was replaced by a dark blue metallic 1983 R5 GTL, also second-hand. It was more comfortable, more luxurious and somewhat more powerful. It still didn't hold the road very well (did any cheap car of the time except for a Mini?). That car was unfortunately smashed by my mom in an accident. She rolled it over because one of the rear brakes locked up completely, making the car do a 180° spin and rolling over when the rear touched the roadside. Luckily mom crawled out of the windscreen window that had popped out, with only a bad bruise on her arm.Aug 29, 2008
